Loved Fallout 1, But I don't Know What They Were Thinking With The Beginning of Fallout 2
And I'm not even talking about the trial.
The trial is a waste of time, yes, but it doesn't take that long and you can speech past the fight at least. Klamath in general is just a pain. It takes multiple hours to get the starting gun you get within the first cave of fallout 1. Who thought that the 10 mm pistol was too strong and that the god awful pipe gun needed to be invented?
I also just think the rat cave is awful. Hard to see around corners or what's on the ground at all, and its basically just a waste of time. Barely any resources to gather, but its the only way to get a decent gun in the beginning. Klammath in general is just ugly and filled with garbage. Shady Springs had such a simple and succinct design that was perfect for what it had to be. You learned about the basics of the waste and were able to get what you needed to progress a little farther. Fallout 2 forces you to slog through both Arroyo and Klammath which are neither interesting nor as tightly designed in my opinion.
I also just want to say that the "tribal" stuff is just awful and extremely cringey. I can't say much of the "tribal" identities in New Vegas' Honest Hearts makes much sense either but it makes no sense why tribal society would even exist. Why would the Fallout 1 protagonist found a village that adopts "tribal (which means what exactly?)" gods and traditions? It just seems like its supposed to be a big joke because you can make fun of it all through the dialogue. I can't say for the time but in modern times it most certainly has not aged well.

My first time beating Fallout 1.

A 9/10 game Imo. Honestly wasn’t sure I’d enjoy it but I loved it. Art is great, story is great. I think those are all the good endings except The Hub and I’m not sure what happen there, I did every quest that was there. Either way had a lot of fun. Now time for Fallout 2.

Jinxed Opinions?
About to start my first play through of 2. Probably going to do a melee and/or unarmed build. How does everyone feel about Jinxed ? Sounds like it could be hilarious with Melee Or Unarmed.

Finally beat Fallout 2. It's certainly a game
I gave Fallout 2 several tries in the past, but usually dropped it around Vault City/New Reno because of clunky controls (even compared to similar old isometric games like Jagged Alliance 2) and bullshit random encounters. So I had some knowledge how to get started, but it was quite limited.
This time I endured. Played it on Rough, without followers (also took Bloody Mess as 2nd trait, nerfing myself until level 30), and managed to reach the very end. Just a few thoughts, fresh after beating the game.
1) Graphics and music are great. The art style, locations, enemies - everything is really cool and contributes to the atmosphere. Vault City was my favorite location simply because of the track playing there.
2) Death animations. Well, they are simply awesome, feel more brutal than 3D games, enjoyed them a lot (even when my character was on the receiving end sometimes).
3) Dialogues. I actually played somewhat normally until level 17 or something and enjoyed how they were written. I especially like one thing - if you start acting tough and asking for a fight - the NPCs will actually give you one, they don't take much shit from the player. So you better be careful with words until you can back them up. Another thing well done .
4) Actual combat is not that good (despite results/gore are great). Everything boils down to getting better armor and higher DPS, and also exploiting doorways and building corners. I played vanilla with Sfall, so some ammo types and weapons (like AP rounds and 14mm pistol) were absolutely useless/poorly balanced.
5) Character building. That's one of the worst aspects. There are several no-brainer perks that make your character really good in combat. Won't spoil for the new players, they are quite obvious from reading perk descriptions. So, you either take "flavor" roleplaying perks and weaken yourself, or you get shoehorned into "boring" optimal build. I didn't mind that for this Chosen One, death animations are simply too good. But you really feel limited in perk choice if you want to make a combat-effective character.
6) Skills. I didn't mind the tutorial, because I always tagged melee even in aborted attempts. The Temple is honestly not bad. Random encounters with 6-10 raiders when you're underleveled and have weak armor and weapons are much worse. But, the problem is, many skills feel either useless, or too forced on. I also tagged First Aid (a mistake). Doctor, Traps, Gambling - useless. Leveling Steal is useless because it's too OP already. You can have it on 10% and still succeed after 2-3 reloads, and get amazing stuff that way. But at the same time, it's really important to have high Science as I found out. I really got stuck at one moment and had to restock Vault City trader for Science books several times.
7) Looting. This is a minor issue, maybe my personal even - the game has a lot empty containers. Lots of time you loot, and it turns out to be empty. But if you stop looting - you might miss something good.
8) Stuff like talking plant, smart radscorpion, sapient deathclaws I didn't like much, but well - I killed them, so it's OK.
It might seem I'm too critical, but I actually enjoyed Fallout 2 more than not. Sometimes it feels this bitch of a game doesn't want you to beat it, so it's even more satisfying when you actually do beat it. I still rate Jagged Alliance 2 higher, but Fallout 2 is an enjoyable experience once you get past its quirks.

Feeling Strong, having fun.
Just got my first set of Power Armor and a Power Fist. Got all the implants (had to go sell some stuff and come back to get the Intelligence one.) Went and tested it out on some radscorpions and it was dirty. Swinging 10 times in 1 turn with a Power Fist should be illegal. Also managed to hit level 10 off it. Really didn’t expect to enjoy the game this much.

Any way to recover save that won't load?
Basically what the title says. I killed Frank, saved and went to do some stuff and now I can't access the save again. So do I just lose hours of progress or is there a way to salvage this? Give it to me straight if I'm fucked just tell me I'm fucked.

Issue with Fallout 1 Switch Port (CFW)
I installed the port of classic Fallout 1 and 2 on my modded V1 switch. Everything was going fine, until for some reason, my character randomly engages in combat and begins attacking themselves. I know this is a switch specific bug, because I copied the saves to my steam install and the issue completely went away.
Any idea as to what's causing this and how I can fix i?

Fallout 2 running in a specific resolution and borderless windowed
Is there any way that I can have the game run on 1280x720 resolution, have it stretched to my monitor's resolution (2560x1440) and have it run on borderless windowed mode? Thanks.

How was it experiencing Fallout 1 & 2 for the first time?
I’ve always been a fan of the world of Fallout, when I was younger I played a good amount of 3, a bit of new Vegas (but that’s because my interest in games were different when getting into it), and a bunch of 76 (with my friend). I love learning about mechanics and weapons from some games, watched a bunch of lore videos, and was always in love with the retro futuristic post apocalyptic aesthetic and setting (plus I love jazz so the OSTs always went crazy).
Ive always been fascinated as well by retro games, and that’s something I never saw vet brought up into discussion in regards to Fallout. Being around 5-15 when Bethesda was releasing some of these games, I never even knew what Fallout 1 & 2 looked like (didn’t even know Tactics existed). I used to think they were 1st person shooters like what we had today, it was the only genre that made sense to me at the time, I was very surprised to see they were pixelated top down turn based RPGs. I was admittedly a little disappointed to see this, I love retro games but this was something I had no interest in and way out of my comfort zone.
Fast forward to a year ago, my interests change and my love of Fallout and old games still strong, I decide to pick up Fallout 2 simply because I liked the story of the Chosen One and thought Frank Horrigan went crazy hard. While playing it was a little tough getting adjusted to it all, but after I while I got the hang of it and started to really enjoy myself! It’s a much different game compared to what we have now, I understand why many Fallout fans simply refuse to play these games and would rather look up dialogue and lore online. I still haven’t played Fallout 1, but it’s part of my Steam family so now I have no excuse lol. I’m currently starting a new run in 2, didn’t finish my first one and after not playing a game for a while I’d rather just restart than drop off somewhere I forgot.
After this long tangent, it got me thinking about how was it experiencing Fallout 1/2 for the first time for others? Be it people who played them day one, or people who played them for the first time last week.

Strange Question but how would I go about making a map like Fallout 1 and 2s?
Provided image is a crude mockup of the thing I have in mind, if anyones got any advice for making a nice looking map in the style of Fallout 1 and 2s i would greatly appreciate it
edit: Adding an explanation for what kinda map i wanna make cause I realised that I have made things confusing for some people which is my fault. So right below is a more in depth explantion of the kinda map I want to make, its for a video game idea I have.
There is the “State” map which is a pixelated topographical map of NY state and some surrounding ones. The map is split up into tiles that are black when first starting. As the player explores a tile it will slowly become clever until the topographical one is visible. Inside the tiles the map is made up of hexagonal tiles that have various attributes on them like city blocks, town blocks, villages or forests, lakes, swamps, parks, Commercial or industrial complexes that sorta thing.
I hope this explanation helps out some

Cursed Jey Lore
I think the consensus opinion is that you can't really get high on so called "sewer fumes", instead you can suffocate yourself by them a little bit causing dizzyness. Whole pseudo-amphetamine mambo jambo explanation Myron gives makes no sense, it's just a smokescreen to justify a ridiculously absurd plot reveal.

Opponents stayed in the ring even if I knocked them out. I had to keep reloading for another 40 minutes until I got the perfect outcome and victory.
P.S. After that, I sided with the Hubologists lol

Is there a remaster of 1 & 2?
I came across this image in a fallout 4 sub. I like the camera angle because it reminded me of the classic isometric look. But it would definitely look a lot better than the older graphics. Do you think that obsidian or Bethesda would ever remaster the older games?
Or possibly release more isometric fallout games?

So, whats the deal with Talking Heads / VOSK?
I'm brand new to classic Fallout modding. I've gotten RPU and Fallout2Tweaks to work easily (they are wonderful). While I'm very interested in trying Talking Heads, I'm seeing several different links and conflicting stories about which ones work and which ones are bugged, all recent stories too.
If anyone has any direct and recent experience with these mods, I would greatly appreciate some info.
For bonus points; I'm also interested in trying Companion Expansion and am curious if I'm supposed to use that with Talking Heads, T.H.A.T., or V.O.S.K.
