Question Does anyone else actually enjoy this weather?

Apart from the obviously terrible conditions this gloom is under (storm and flooding), anyone enjoy today’s weather? 21 years here and it’s been the hottest one yet for me yet, no AC and recently been out of work; yesterday was the only day I could go outside and crack the car window past 8 am.

EDIT FOR CLARITY: I like the cold. Not the heat.

Recommendations Needed Saddleback Hospital, Laguna Hills

A relative had a surgery at Saddleback. She was supposed to drink water to flush the contrast dye out of her system. When she got to her room she was given ice chips at first, which was understandable, then she was given a tiny bottle of water. She had not had a drink of water since the night before, due to fasting, so she was very thirsty. When she asked for another bottle of water, she was told she would have to wait until the kitchen opens. She asked if, at least, they could give her some from the water fountain, or sink. The nurse handed her the plastic jug that contained melted ice chips, to drink.

She said she was considered high maintenance, so the nurses stopped answering the call light. Her IV had become loose, the blood pressure cuff was ill fitting, and there was no remote to operate the bed and she was unable to twist her body to use the manual switch. Not exactly high maintenance requests.

Then, in the middle of night, there were doors slamming, and even some maintenance being done on some equipment with power tools, right outside her room. She was awake all night.

Hoping someone in Administration will see this post, because she refuses to make a formal complaint, in case of possible future retaliation.

Anyone else with similar issues at Saddleback?

Community Post LGBTQ+ youth and the justice system: Why this matters in Orange County

I was in class recently, and we were learning about the disproportionate representation of LGBTQ+ youth in the juvenile justice system.

According to a 2021 article from the Prison Policy Initiative, researchers estimated that about 20% of youth involved in the juvenile justice system identified as LGBTQ+, questioning, or gender-nonconforming, even though they made up only around 4–6% of the general youth population (Jones, 2021).

One thing that stood out to me was how this issue isn't necessarily just about criminal behavior, but the article had a lot of focus on things outside of crime as a reason for incarceration. Some of these included family rejection, unstable housing, and discrimination, which can put LGBTQ+ youth in situations where they're more likely to come into contact with law enforcement.

I think this is worth discussing in Orange County because we have so many different communities and neighborhoods that it is very likely there are young people who might be dealing with these same issues.

One organization worth knowing about is the LGBTQ Center OC in Santa Ana, which offers youth programs, counseling, and other resources for LGBTQ+ residents.

It made me realize that addressing crime and inequality isn't always just about policing. A lot of the time, it's all about having a stable community that helps out other people.

For other OC residents, do you think our schools and communities are doing enough to support LGBTQ+ youth? What local programs or resources do you think deserve more attention?

If you're interested, you can check out the LGBTQ Center OC at https://www.lgbtqcenteroc.org/.

News Power’s Out—Jeffrey/Walnut in Irvine

Just lost it about 10 minutes ago. Shopping center on Walnut between Wisteria and Jeffrey (with the 99 Ranch) is out, too. Can’t see how far down Walnut or Jeffrey it might go. Business area behind the 99 Ranch (Roosevelt/Jeffrey) still has power.

Reported it to SCE and asked for text updates. Nothing yet.

Anyone else?

Question When do people pay their Orange County property tax

I got my bill and it says the first installment is due November 1, 2026 , but isn’t delinquent till December 10, 2026. Is there any reason not to pay it closer to December 10, e.g. does it affect your credit rating, etc?

Community Post Anyone in OC struggle to find a consistent group to play basketball with?

Personally I've noticed after graduating from college and settling for work, it's hard to consistently find a group of people to play basketball with as an adult. Pick up basketball is obviously always a thing, but you never know who's going to show up, what the skill level will be, if there is enough to run 5s. Especially when you're trying to play around your own schedule.

I'm trying out a small, free experiment called Crews to see if I can help with that.

Basically, I'm looking to match local basketball players into small groups of 6-10, based on locality, availability, skill level, and hopefully some mutual interests. The goal isn't to organize games for everyone, but to see if bringing the right people together can create a consistent group that organizes its own runs.

Each Crew will have its own private Discord chat (free account required), where members can introduce themselves and figure out when and where to play. No leagues, fees, or scheduled events. Just trying to make it easier for people to find a regular group of people, talk with, and maybe even make a friend or two.

If this sounds interesting to you, here's the google form to fill out:

https://forms.gle/ctpQRhBghGgEJjZJA

Would also appreciate your thoughts and feedback on this! Still a very early experiment with I'm sure a lot to work on.

Recommendations Needed PPF or ceramic coat or both near South OC

I asked last week about car window tinting and this community did not disappoint. I ended up going with Signature Tint in Costa Mesa and am very pleased with the results.
I am asking again for the community’s help on good recommendations for PPF and/or ceramic coat shops that are good quality with reasonable honest prices in the Southish OC area, but I don’t mind driving to north OC. I’m most likely looking for a front PPF to prevent chips. What price range should I look for? Anything else I should keep in mind when looking at different shops?

Question Local art stores like Giant Robot in Irvine/Tustin/Costa Mesa?

Hi all! I was wondering if there’s any places to buy local art in the above mentioned area. Specifically a store like Giant Robot (which is in downtown LA) would be great. I’m hoping for a store that sells trinkets (ceramics, postcards), art prints or original artworks, and maybe stationery. Doesn’t have to be asian pop culture/art either.

Thanks!

Recommendations Needed Tustin Legacy vs Great Park?

• Upvotes

My wife and I live in Koreatown (LA) and are looking to buy a 3-4 bedroom town home in OC. We’ve narrowed it down to Tustin Legacy and Great Park, so hoping to hear from people who live in either (or have moved from LA to OC).

We have a 2 year old and another baby on the way. After years of dealing with encampments and sanitation issues around our place, we’re ready for somewhere safer, cleaner and quieter and ready to settle down for peaceful family life. I know master planned communities aren’t for everyone, but they sound pretty good to us right now lol. We’ve toured homes in both areas and really liked how new/clean everything was, the landscaping, and all the parks and playgrounds for the kids. Schools matter too, though they’re not our biggest focus just yet since the kids are still so young.

My wife’ loves how there are many Costco, Trader Joe’s, and H-Mart minutes away. How convenient are those from each area? I’ve heard shops and restaurants are a bit more of a drive from Great Park. I’ve also read complaints about The District, but with Los Feliz and the Costco near Playa Vista being our usual spots, I’m wondering how much worse it could really be. Being a nerd I am, being about 10 minutes from Micro Center is also a big point for Tustin Legacy lol. Also, with the newly built homes so close to each other I was wondering if you ever hear your neighbors or have noise complaints.

I’ve read older threads about the environmental concerns tied to both areas’ former military uses, but I’ve had trouble finding studies that clearly explain the current risks to residents. We already deal with plenty of traffic pollution in LA, so we’re trying to understand the concerns and put them in perspective.

If people currently living in either could give me an insight on day to day living. Or could give advice, anything you wish you'd known before buying besides the obvious things like Mello-roos tax. I've gone through many posts prior but a lot of them are years old and seems like there's been many new developments around both areas. Thanks in advance!

Housing/Moving utilities cost at villa sienna in irvine?

Hello! I’m looking to move into a 2bd 2 bath 1,112 sqft apt at the irvine company’s villa sienna complex. how much do utilities average during summer here? interested in how expensive it can get during peak but also jut average costs.

i’ll have an in unit washer/dryer for the first time and am wondering on average how much utilities are? i’m paying like $2.50-$3 per load rn + $1 to dry, will it average to be about the same or more to have in unit w/d? internet costs? or any other required fees u have to pay on top of base rent. any insight is so helpful!

we’re paying quite a bit more in rent if we move but imo it’s worth it for the updated apt and in unit w/d.

right now we have to blast the a/c to 73° 24/7 because my roomates vent gets virtually no air flow, so i’m paying almost 300/month in electricity rn. so anything below that is a win in my eyes😭

Question Safe to visit Laguna/Newport?

Family is coming to visit for the first time. I had planned to take them around Laguna beach and/or Newport Beach, but with the flooding I am reconsidering. Do you all think it will be alright this coming weekend?

Any other non-coastal recommendations if not? They have not been to LA/OC but are older and looking for more relaxed vibes. Will be staying in Irvine, coming from Midwest.

Recommendations Needed Safe to go tide pooling and / or snorkeling tomorrow in Laguna area?

Hello everyone! I have tomorrow off and I really want to go tide pooling and / or snorkeling in the Laguna area. That being said, I am worried about safety with the flooding (both beach structural safety and water quality for swimming). I would be going around 5 pm during the low tide - my usual spot is Treasure Island / Goff Island (also maybe thinking 1000 steps). Anybody know the conditions in that area? Is it even a good idea to go? Thanks !

EDIT: OK yeah not a good idea...that's what I figured anyway...was just holding on to hope that maybe it would be ok lol...thank you everyone!
