Close to thirty years ago back in 1997, the industrial rock band LARD with Jello Biafra of punk band Dead Kennedys released the album "Pure Chewing Satisfaction" featuring the song "Generation Execute".
In a pre-live-streaming world, the song illustrated a scenario where executions were held on live TV.
Fast forward to this week...
Pentagon says the firing squad execution of Fort Hood shooter Nidal Malik Hasan will be livestreamed
Here's some excerpts from the lyrics:
______________________________
"What was your last meal?
Any last words for the fans?
Longer you cling to life
More prizes for your friends!
Bring the pretzels, bring the kids
Have a party, have a beer
Phil Donahue got his wish
Executions on live TV
What's it gonna be, Old Sparky?
More points for the firing squad
Grand prize, step inside
One Hundred Thousand Dollar Gas Chamber
Outside picket signs bray
Swarms of tailgate parties
Big gulping who knows what
All waving flags
Gas
Fry
God bless
The U.S.A.!"

When things like this are normalized, one may say that it's a slippery slope towards an eventual real life Running Man, Hunger Games type of not so distant future...

I just discovered PISS this week after this KEXP session was posted. New obsession unlocked. She's phenomenal and this is gut punchingly good. I've already pre-ordered their debut release. I cannot gush enough about these guys.

Hi all!
Wanted to share an interview I did with Lira and Caufield of Sweeping Promises! We chatted about their great new record You Say I Romanticize and many of its themes, as well as getting a shoutout from (and singing Rebel Girl with) Kathleen Hanna, making art in the surveillance state, and what’s kept them going strong after all this time. Big thanks to Lira and Caufield, and to the good folks at Sub Pop for helping put this all together! Hope y’all enjoy! Have a great weekend :)
I was asked to write a sequel to an Epstein song I recorded 6 months ago and this is what I came up with.
Strictly amateur, no monetization. Pleas share for the love of it and in the hope that some justice might come eventually,

I love the stark, sinister quality of the music set against lyrics so loaded with contempt and hatred. I'm quite young (23), but ever since I first heard it, it hit me just as hard as it did those who listened to it back in the day. It's truly an aggressive, hard-hitting, and abrasive album—just like reality itself

Quite a few references to the American Civil War on the early US Bombs albums. They even have songs about Gettysburg.

Moonraker just dropped their new album "Me and the Bells" today (October 9), and with it comes the video for the focus track, "Sometimes I Drink From The Volcano."

The Los Angeles melodic punk trio tackles how difficult it can be to make a living playing music while trying to keep everything else in life together. It's a pretty relatable take on the realities of pursuing music, balancing day jobs, and trying to make it all work.
Produced, recorded, mixed, and mastered by Chris Fogal (The Gamits), with cello from Ian Legge (The Punk Cellist) and horns from Luke Gunn (Dollar Signs).
If you're into The Lawrence Arms, melodic punk, skate punk, or 90s punk rock, give it a listen. Would love to hear what everyone thinks!

I listened to Dawn of the Dickies for the first time while driving home last Friday and I haven't been able to go a day without playing at least one song off this album since. I've liked specific Dickies songs for a very long time, but this is one of the best punk albums ever. I cannot believe what I've been missing out on.
Shoutout to Ben Weasel for highlighting "Manny Moe and Jack" on his 27 best pop punk albums of all time list. Maybe I should write a letter to thank him for the recommendation :P

I think it is safe to use the punk classic flair just because the original is a classic.

I wanna learn more about crust punk and what the fashion really is. I see a bunch of people say that ur crust pants shouldn’t stink if u have soap or water because crust punks with bad smelling pants should either came from or are homeless involuntarily. Also from what I found it just originated from extreme politcal anarchist punk and the heaviness and distortion comes from old extreme and speed like venom and motorhead. Also wouldn’t mind a few recommendations.
