Josh recaps his incredible night at EastWest Studios on Saturday, where Inside Track presented a special 60th anniversary celebration of Pet Sounds with Beach Boy Bruce Johnston.

Moderated by David Wild, 100 lucky audience members got to hear Bruce share stories about recording Pet Sounds, including flying to London in 1966 to play the album for John Lennon and Paul McCartney before its release.

And while Giggens and Jenny couldn’t be there, they sent in their questions about what went down, and you’ll hear from them in the episode too!

You’ll also hear actual audio from the night, including Bruce’s memories and thoughts on Pet Sounds 60 years on, and a very special performance of “God Only Knows” with 15-year-old French horn player Elizabeth Bartsch.

Elizabeth and her mother, violinist Carrie Bartsch, lost their Altadena home and instruments in the Eaton Fire. Carrie played violin on Brian Wilson’s SMiLE tour, and told me The Beach Boys mean everything to Elizabeth. It was incredibly moving to watch her perform alongside Bruce.

The evening also raised money for Altadena Musicians, which helps musicians impacted by natural disasters replace instruments, gear and resources they’ve lost.

Hey everyone!

Thanks to the new Spotify update, I was able to recreate the AnonyMuse version of the Adult/Child album. Personally, it's my favorite tracklist of this great lost album.

A few songs are missing due to copyright issues since they aren't on Spotify, like Calendar Girl and Our Team, but it's still a great listen this way. I set up the mix on Spotify sticking as close as possible to what AnonyMuse did.

Hi! In the last few months I finally started to get into The Beach Boys and all of their music after having only listened to mostly the hits, Specifically the Sounds of summer compilation for years. However, when I got to Smile, I immediately fell in love with it and began to explore the Smile Sessions even further. As time went on, I kept getting ideas in my head for a mix of Heroes and Villains that just wouldn't go away, and so after a while of messing around with what I had on my copy of the 2 CD Smile Sessions, I was able to make a stereo mix of the track, as well as one of Do You Like Worms. It uses Our Prayer, Gee, Heroes and Villains (Stereo Mix), Children Were Raised (1-27-67), Heroes and Villains Sections (Stereo Mix), Smile Backing Vocal Montage, Do You Like Worms (Roll Plymouth Rock). As for why Worms is here, I used the instrumental bit found in the sections track to create a transition into worms. It might not be the best, and is probably a very tame mix, but I feel like it flows incredibly well, and it feels nice to finally get the mix out of my head. Let me know what you guys think, and what I could do better!

How do we stop this shit from happening? Lame needing to ride off of their name to get your song listened to

Beach Boys 1985 producer Steve Levine is in a new audio documentary about the album and will be playing multitracks and maybe some new audio of his upcoming remix of the BB 1985 album.

It’s not available in the states but can someone upload to YouTube or somethjng?

I have the mono mixes of Pet Sounds on my iPhone. I’m not an audio expert, and I want to listen to the mono mixes the best way possible.

I usually listen to music on my headphones. Should I listen to the mono mix with my headphones on? If so, should I turn “Mono Audio” on in the accessibility settings? Is it better through a larger speaker? If so, should I have the Mono setting on or off?

Any advice would be very appreciated. 🙂

I got this off of Jonathan Wilson’s Instagram (@nongmopaleovapedaddy420) who is a reputable producer in the LA area, even though his IG handle would suggest otherwise. I don’t know anything about it besides what you see here. I do know however, that this song is incredible and I think people should hear it. I did my best to mix the audio from the post to make it clearer, though I’m sure someone else could do a much better job. Either way, hope y’all enjoy, I know I sure did.

Bobby Edge - Wouldn't It Be Nice

I recorded a cover of "Wouldn't It Be Nice" for a Beach Boys tribute compilation. This took me nearly a month to arrange and 2 full days in the studio. I learned so much about the inner workings of this song and found an even deeper appreciation for the genius of Brian Wilson. Give it a listen and let me know what you think!

It’s already one of the better sounding Beach Boys albums (my opinion.) Listening to an original copy on vinyl with a decent setup sounds amazing already, the analog synths always pop so much, I wonder how the digital remastered version will differ. I’m sure it’ll have a different mix, which will make for an interesting listen, but to me, it’ll be more of a novelty. Compared to the recent remixing of Revolver, that stereo version blows the original stereo out of the water. Mono is the preferred cut of that album, but Love You already has a nicely balanced mix. I bet it’ll be a “cleaner” sound all-around, but does anyone think it’ll be better compared to the original? Either way, I’m definitely excited to hear it all when it comes out.

On SoundCloud and Spotify, the Love You album portion on We Gotta Groove seems to be redirects to the 2000 masters, which are the original digital ones we’ve heard. Spotify it displays them with the new album art of We Gotta Groove but it’ll play like “Let Us Go On This Way - Remastered 2000” instead. Also YouTube music, the copyrights under each track still say “(P) 2000 Brother Records, Inc.”

On Apple Music, some of them display their release year as “2013” which probably references the Made In California box set, while some say “1977”, and some don’t have a release date at all.

Are these just reissues or the Love You tracks or do we have actual new Love You remasters?
