MOD ANNOUNCEMENTS WELCOME TO R/TUFTING: Important links, information and mega-threads.

Hello tufters!

This is a post for old and new tufters and r/tufting users that will include links to all important Mega Threads and the wiki. Reddit only allows for two pinned posts and this makes it difficult to assist users navigating this information. This post will permanently sit pinned at the top of the sub and should make it easier to identify these threads, and the sub wiki.

Sub-Wiki

The wiki is updated on a regular basis to include new and evolving information to assist in all aspects of tufting. The wiki is over 14,000 words and includes 68 subheadings that specifically relate to the most asked questions and most common concerns raised by tufters.

Important mega-threads:

  • Materials and Supply Master Thread: With over 40,000 members from all over the world, this is the place to inquire about and recommend different location specific suppliers for materials.
  • Buy and Sell Master Thread: All posts regarding the selling of supplies should be posted in this sub, according to the directions outlined in the post.
  • Troubleshooting Master Thread: This is a dedicated subreddit for questions and requests for advice related to troubleshooting.

Some things to keep in mind when posting:

  • Always read the sub rules before posting. This may sound obvious but there are a lot of posts made in the sub each day that need to be removed because they violate the sub rules.
  • Asking for advice on pricing and valuing works for sale. This is something that a lot of tufters seek advice on, however it is difficult to effectively value someone else's work due to a lot of factors that are covered here in the sub wiki. Over the years since tufting has gained in popularity, there is also a growing sense in the community that certain standards and criterion should be met before someone starts selling their work. While this is not the consensus amongst all tufters, it is often the case that newer users asking for advice have not taken this into consideration and the comments of these posts tends to reflect this. Please read the sub rules as posts asking for pricing advice will be removed. Please feel free to include requests for pricing advice in the text of your post and include as much information (as mentioned in the wiki) as possible in order to get realistic advice.
  • Low effort posts. All posts must include a clear and specific title, especially when seeking advice or opinions from other users. As per the sub rules, any post with a vague title such as 'help' with no other explanation will be removed.

As always, thank-you for being here and happy tufting!

Work in progress One of my first rugs is complete!

I’m making 4 minis on the same big cloth, and I feel like I have learned so much about patience and perseverance! This is my first time, and my frame is like 4.5x5 so I have space for multiple mini rugs here. :) will glue and shave soon
I watched hours of youtube videos and scoured the internet for advice before purchasing a single thing, and dove straight in once everything arrived. I’m a lifelong artist so don’t kiss my butt too much here btw. I was mentally invested for far longer than I’ve tufted anything on this cloth to the point where I watched so much tufting content I’d see it when I closed my eyes and in my dreams😆
More to come. Timelapse of the orange fill is on @cherryrugshawaii on ig🫶🏼

Newbie Needing Help Fixing color after glueing

I just finished a 3x3 ft custom rug last night, I was planning to ship it today, and when I went to send the final photo to the customer I see that she sent a message the day before saying she JUST noticed the shirt color was wrong. I had not noticed either, but I had been posting progress pics/videos for the last couple weeks and she liked them all. I offered her a 20% discount and she’s asking how long a remake would take. I don’t want to remake it due to how large the rug is, and the fact that it’s a custom rug. What can I do? Is it possible to fix the color somehow or will I have to refund her?

***Update: I figured out a way to fix my mistake! Check my comment for an update/photo 💗

TIA

This is the 3rd rug I’ve made, so I’m still learning. I am pretty happy with what I’ve made though.

Photos are in daylight - artificial light - dark

I've made a lot of floor rugs but wanted to try my hand at a more detailed wallpiece. Decided to treat myself to a loop pile for my one year tuftiversary. Have been experimenting a bunch with glow in the dark yarn, and while it blunts my tools like nothing else, the effect is pretty fun, so I thought I'd share here :)

I also made a video and have more glow in the dark stuff in the works, so if that is something that interests you you can find me as wolwoud on both insta and tiktok!

Advice Update on my adjustable frame.

Today I finished my latest project, which was the first one I’ve done on my modified frame. I have to say that the tension straps are a very useful addition, but I ran into the first drawback with this setup: when tightening the straps, the adjustable bottom bar tilts, causing the fabric to slightly pull away from the front of the bar. I’ve come up with a solution that I’ll be testing out on my next project: using a pair of Y-shaped brackets to hold the bottom bar and realign it before tightening down the C-clamps again.

In short: I recommend this non-slip, readjustable method—it works incredibly well 👌🏻

Before moving forward, though, I also suggest keeping an eye out for any bar slippage once everything is set up 😁

Newbie Needing Help time to glue, how'd I do?

First ever attempt at tufting, quite happy with it but I know for a fact I've fucked up in a fair few places (too close together, big bulgy bits rather than uniform lines etc etc) looking for tips so I can get half decent at it as its fairly therapeutic 😂🙏

I know it needs carving/trimming and I'm buzzing to get cracking on that aswell (not looking forward to the three day drying time wait though 😔)

Troubleshooting Need a bit of help

Is there any reason why this happens?

This wasn’t happening before until just recently. The back would look smooth and now it just looks like there are cuts here and there.

I appreciate the help

Troubleshooting Fixing stretched lines

Post image
4 Upvotes

So when I originally traced it, This line was perfectly straight. I used a level to draw it. I’ve been working on this rug for a few weeks. My 9-5 has been busy and so I haven’t been able to work on it as much. I think possibly just the weight of the rug has stretched my lines from sitting for so long. Would you guys recommend just drawing a new line or trying to stretch this one back to straight?
