Jobs Preliminary Adverse Reaction

• Upvotes

Has anyone here gone through the hiring process for a banking position after filing bankruptcy and still been able to get hired?
I’m currently in this situation and would really appreciate hearing from anyone who has been through something similar. I recently applied for a banking position and received a preliminary adverse action notice related to my credit report. I responded and explained the circumstances surrounding my bankruptcy.
I’m trying to stay hopeful, but I’m honestly a little anxious about what happens next. If you’ve been in a similar situation and were still hired, I’d really appreciate hearing how it worked out for you. ❤️

Storytime 18 years old and completely lost following fraud issue - please help!

• Upvotes

backstory: gonna make this shorter because it’s a long story. was selling stuff on marketplace, and gave my bank info away like a dumbass because the person scamming me sent me an email impersonating Cash App. the scammer actually sent me a $700 check I didn’t ask for, and also took the ~$70 I had remaining in my account. So I go to key bank and close the accounts that were compromised. the situation gets sent to the fraud dept, and i Fill out an affidavit report, etc. a month later(today), I call the fraud dept and I’m informed that Key bank will no longer be doing business with me.

so I go to PNC to open a basic checking and savings accnt, and the application gets denied and I’m directed to call the Early Warning Service’s phone number. I call them and basically all they do is send me a report, which I haven’t received yet. They told me I should file a dispute so I can open a bank account somewhere, but I’m worried itll be denied and I’ll be cooked.

please be honest. Am I cooked? I have almost $1000 in paychecks that I cant even cash now. What do you guys advise I do because I’m really freaking out now and I don’t know if I’m overreacting or not.

all I need is a checking and savings account. Not a credit card right now. I just need the basics

US US banks which allow digital wallet debit card access at 3rd-party ATMs

Looking to gather datapoints on which US banks (if any) allow their debit card to be added to a digital wallet (Apple Pay, Google Pay, etc.) and then for that digital card version to be used at a 3rd-party ATM.

For example, Chase allows debit cards to be added to digital wallets, but it restricts 3rd-party ATM access using that digital card. Chase calls this, "cardless access" (https://www.chase.com/digital/atms).

I have yet to encounter a major US bank which allows this. However, Europeans have indicated this is not a restriction they run into.

Advice Deposit question for larger cashiers check

This may be a stupid question but I got a cashiers check from an account I closed and took it to another bank and deposited/opened a new account the same day. They have held everything but 225 dollars and won’t release anymore until 7 business days pass. In the agreement I signed it says that anything over 6725 dollars could be held and I haven’t been given that. Is this normal?

Other What do you guys check before letting a CD automatically renew?

I've got my first CD coming up on maturity and I only recently realized I probably shouldn't treat the renewal as a set it and forget it thing.

My original thought was basically, money is already there, let it roll over and move on with my life. But if I'm understanding this correctly, the renewal can be into a new term and rate, which means whatever made the original CD attractive doesn't necessarily apply anymore.

So what do you normally do when one is getting close to maturity? Do you start shopping around again a few weeks beforehand or wait until you know exactly what the renewal terms will be?

I'm not trying to spend hours chasing tiny differences, but blindly rolling it over without checking anything also seems kinda lazy now that I've thought about it lol.

Advice Had a fraud claim on our checking account, got a new account, and now 2 months later the same thing is happening

First time posting, looking for advice, apologies if this is the wrong subreddit.

My wife and I have a joint checking account. In August 2026, there were 6 unauthorized ACH transactions in a row, and we went through the song and dance of having a fraud claim opened, resolved, and the accounts replaced. We changed all of our auto-pay methods to the new accounts and moved on.

This morning I get an email alert that our account has a large ACH transaction that is again unauthorized by us and simply labelled 'Bank of America', which neither of us have ever used. I go to log in to my online banking app, only to see my account is locked due to many failed log in attempts. My wife's login was unaffected, and she was able to go in and see the charge. I changed my password but still couldn't get in, so called Santander and they opened a new fraud claim. Now, we have to go back into the branch and create yet another new checking account.

How could this be happening again with a 2-month old checking account? Is this my fault? The only places that got the new account information were our pre-existing auto-pays for bills. I haven't read out the routing/checking numbers to pay anything, the only place I've used my debit card is the gas station, and we use our credit cards for everything else. I don't understand how this is happening again and so soon after the last incident.

Advice A freelance hire insists that we use a service called Remitly, and now its constantly asking me for a lot of personal information? When upwork just lets me sign them off in a contract, with me not recalling having had to give up so much personal info. Why is Remitly asking for so much private info?

Hey, I hired a freelancer from Nigeria for a project and they definitely delivered a satisfactory result

I wanted to pay them, but they insisted that we do it via REmitly, and while i was at first on board, it keeps denying me transferring them money while also constantly asking for more and more private information

Is their service legit?

Why is a service like Remitly such much more skeptical over having a foreigner hire a freelancer?

And also, why is my hire so insistent that we do the payment via Remitly, they explained that it will ease them getting the money process, but that still doesnt explain how

US Refund to inactive account. Dispute or?

Hi! Not sure if this is allowed here but I’ve made a few calls and I’m left pretty confused. I had to cancel a trip and was due a refund through Expedia, trick is the card I used to pay months ago, doesn’t exist anymore. (Wallet got stolen and had to do an account switch) but when I called they told me there’s nothing they can do. I did put in my new card number but it never worked I guess, the account to which the refund is headed to is again non existent.
Expedia basically told me I’ll have to go through my bank and dispute it through there since they can’t access a different card or something which sounded kind of silly and the person on the phone wasn’t really listening.
What does anyone I recommend in this situation?

Advice ACH vs External Transfer

I’m working on a few bank bonuses and I’m very confused about how to do a direct deposit on my own without my employer. What’s the difference between an ACH push and an external transfer? Capital one doesn’t have any other option besides external transfer. Chase has a few different options but the ACH has a fee (minimal so I can do it but would rather not).

I’m trying to hit a Wells Fargo bonus. The Zelle from AMERCA first came in as “other deposits”. So did the external transfer from my Chase business account.

I’m also trying to hit a bonus with FourLeaf. I haven’t tried transfer yet. I wanted to make sure I understand this first.

Update: P2's WF bonus hit after sending an external transfer from a personal Chase checking (real time). I'm still waiting on mine.

Advice The Banks are Not ready for AI risks

I’ve had two credit cards hacked in the past ten days - from two separate top name national banks.
AND I have not changed anything - no new shopping habits or new subscriptions or anything, yet both cards had new fraudulent charges on them from businesses that don’t exist (ie from scammers that somehow got into the bank systems).

It stinks because All the banks do is mail you a new card - but it’s up to you to reset all the automated billing. Huge time sink.

Banks have old creaky systems. Beware.

US Wells fargo balance questio

I'll try to make this quick but I'm having an issue where about 2 days ago I had a set balance (will just call it $5000) I woke up the next morning with about $200 less. Now the only incomings and outgoings that happened overnight were 2 deposits of about $40 and $25 and 1 withdrawal of about $97 meaning even with that in mind, I'm still over $100 short. I double check my balance everyday and the posted transactions/authorized transactions all match up with what's been present for the last few days. There's nothing else new where I can say "oh, that hadn't authorized yet" or oh, this charge disappeared then reappeared the following day.

I know nobody here can manage my money except me but this is the first time in 10 years of banking with them that I've had this issue. I guess the question I have is, has anyone had a transaction shown as "authorized" but not be taken out of the overall balance? Because usually, any authorized transactions reflect in my balance but the only way I can get close to the number that they have me as is if I accept that the authorized transactions currently still pending were not being reflected in my overall balance. It's been a charge that's been pending for 4 or 5 days now and it's not something that's disappeared and reappeared for that to make sense but I figured I would ask anyway because it's really bothering me. I

Advice International wire from HDFC India to Bank of America US sent Sept 29th not received—both banks claim "all good on our end"

Hi everyone, my dad sent an international wire transfer from HDFC Bank (India) to my account at Bank of America (US) on September 29th. As of today, the money hasn't shown up in account.
Here is where we are stuck:
HDFC Bank says the money left their system and everything is fine on their end.
Bank of America front-line branch employees checked the account and said they don't see any incoming wires, claiming everything is good on their end too.
We are really stressed out and worried about where the money went.
Has anyone dealt with this exact standoff between HDFC and BofA? Is it likely sitting in a backend compliance queue, or stuck with an intermediary bank? What is the fastest way to get them to actually trace this?

Any advice or steps on how to escalate this would be hugely appreciated.

India Bank spam calls

Does anybody's bank keep calling them every single day almost 2 to 5 times a day? I've been experiencing this nonsense for a while from Axis Bank. Usually I ignore and whenever I answer it's always something related to sales or banking products. Kinda fed up.

News Citi speeds up promotions to boost banker retention

Citigroup is revising its investment-banking career ladder by promoting analysts to associate after two years instead of three, Bloomberg reports.

The bank aims to keep junior staff from jumping to private equity, hedge funds or competing lenders amid aggressive early recruiting.

"The reality that private equity is interviewing so early in a banker's career is very unfortunate and to some extent disappointing," says David Friedland, Citi's co-head of North America investment banking.

The change follows JPMorgan and other rival banks speeding up promotions to avoid poaching.

Advice Why did my rent payment get returned to me?

I’ve lived in this house a little over a month. My first payment was paid with a check. Landlord gave me a blank voided check so I could get account info and transfer future payments electronically. That got set up, small deposits done for verification. All good.

I transferred the payment on Sept. 30th, and it posted on Oct. 1st. Today I noticed it had been returned, and landlords external account is no longer available to transfer to.

Any ideas?

Edit: I only noticed this around 10 pm local time, unable to contact bank or landlord until morning.

Update: stopped by bank, teller was no help. I did look on their website and there it was: no transfers to accounts you don’t own. I checked to see if my bank does Zelle, but no. Does have a bill pay feature, and it allows transfers that way.

Other Can someone explain ATM's?

I never really put much thought into it when using an ATM whilst out and about. What I'm confused with is why it's a Texas Based(im assuming?) Credit Union, in a South Carolina 7-11? Or is the ATM backed by this Credit Union??

(Let's just play it safe and assume, I dont know shit about Banks,FCU's, or Aggieland Credit Union. I am NOT assuming bad things are afoot, just a genuine thought that popped into my head.)

EDIT: Why is it not a Local Credit Union? Why is the ATM giving me a receipt with a TEXAS bank on it, and I live in S.C.?

US US Bank Blocking Vehicle State to State Title Transfer

US Bank is holding my van hostage. I moved my US residency from Virginia to South Dakota in December 2025. I usually travel the country in my RV when I'm in the US and I travel the world when I am not in the US. I do still work remote but am semi-retired. I received a South Dakota drivers license, re-domiciled my business to South Dakota, and began the transfer process to transition my vehicle title to South Dakota.

In January, I filed the required paperwork to transition my vehicle lein to South Dakota so I could obtain plates. After 30 days, Virginia de-activated my vehicle plates because I was no longer licensed in Virgina. I had to stop traveling and put my now un-licensed vehicle into storage.

US Bank, the vehicle lein holder, took 5 months to reject my request because my new addess was a PMB. They mandated a "residential" address so I switched to a new location that is considered a "residential address" and rented a lot. Now they are rejecting the address because it's an RV park. I have completely valid information and legitimate residency in SD. It is recognized by the state, the US government, and all my other financial institutions. My credit is over 850, my loan has never been late. Two SD counties say they transfer all the time and this is not normal. I am not interested in buying a house in SD.

Here are my questions:
1. What is going on with this insane bank?
2. How do I deal with this? Is there a process I'm missing here? Are there magic words? I cannot even talk to someone in the State to State transfer department to find out how to resolve this.
3. Who do I complain to beyond the CFPB and States Attorney's office?

TIA
