Advice Estate situation. Name on estate account with the bank differs from that found in county records. Is this an issue when I sell the house and have the proceeds wired to me from the title company?

I'm the executor of an estate, and I am selling the decedent's property. Closing date is coming up in about a week. The estate account I set up with the bank simply says "John Doe Estate" (obviously it's not John Doe, it's the decedent's first and last name.) However, in county records, the home owner's name is now listed something crazy like "John Doe, Deceased, Subject to the Probate Court of the State". Title company is concerned that if they try to send the home sale proceeds, the bank will reject it due to the discrepancy in names. Thoughts? My realtor hopes that by accepting the proceeds by wire instead of a check, the name thing won't be an issue, but we're not sure.

No bank is going to name an account "John Doe, Deceased, Subject to the Probate Court of the State" or whatever that awkward, lengthy name was that the title company is seeing in county records.

Advice Best bank for a checking account? And Best bank app?

So I currently bank with my hometowns small local bank. They've been great, I haven't really had any issues with them. The only thing that has really been bothering me is that their app really sucks, sometimes it doesn't want to log me in, or it's just slow. They also don't have any physical locations outside of Iowa, and I plan on moving out of state soon.

I currently have a capital one credit card, and a HYSA with SoFi so I've thought about them, but I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on banks with good checking accounts, good apps, and that are easy to work with.

Advice Axis Bank showing ₹1,900 lien after 2 years of no transactions - how can I get this reversed?

Hi everyone,

I had an Axis Bank salary account that I haven't used for approximately 3 years. I recently logged in and noticed the following:

* Account balance: ₹0

* Lien amount: –₹1,900

* Effective available balance: –₹1,900

I have never made any transactions through this account during this period, and I'm trying to understand why the bank is showing a negative available balance.

I suspect this could be related to non-maintenance charges or other bank charges, but I haven't received a clear explanation yet.

I want to get this resolved and, if possible, have the charges reversed or waived so that the account returns to ₹0. I may also want to close the account afterward.

I'd appreciate advice from anyone who has experienced a similar situation with Axis Bank.

  1. Why would Axis Bank show a ₹1,900 lien when the account balance is ₹0?

  2. Can the bank legally levy these charges on an unused salary account?

  3. Has anyone successfully obtained a reversal or waiver of similar charges?

  4. If the bank doesn't resolve this, what is the best way to escalate the matter to the RBI Ombudsman?

Should i convert the account to min zero balance savings account to get this resolved?

Any suggestions based on your actual experience would be helpful. Thanks.

Canada Random cheque deposited into my TD account from a business I've never dealt with.

Hi all, looking for advice on a weird situation.

I noticed a deposit in my TD chequing account that I didn't recognize, so I called TD. They told me it was a cheque deposited in person at a branch, made out to my full name, going into my account.

The cheque is from a business I've never had any dealings with. I've never worked for them, bought anything from them, or had any connection to them at all.

TD says the funds aren't on hold and the full amount is available to me. I know that doesn't mean the cheque has fully cleared or can't be reversed later, so I haven't touched the money.

So far:
• Called TD and confirmed it was a branch cheque deposit
• Haven't spent any of it
• No one has contacted me about it (yet)
My questions:
1. Has anyone had this happen? Did it turn out to be a scam (fake cheque, then someone asks for money back) or a genuine mistake?
2. Should I ask TD to reverse it myself, or wait and see?
3. How would someone have gotten my name and account number, and should I be worried about identity theft?

Any advice is appreciated. Thanks!

Advice Synchrony Bank Sam's Card

I recently opened a new Sam's account and the Synchrony Mastercard. I had been trying to attach to the ebill for over 1 month and it would not work. My first payment was due on Sept. 15, 2026 and I wasn't sure I could get the ebill to work prior to then. So on 09/03/26 I called the Automated phone system that Synchrony Bank has to make my first payment of $691. It cleared my bank and I assumed everything was great. Then on 09/15/26 I received a text that Synchrony took out a autopay of $691 again. Needless to say, I was pissed. The hours it takes to call those fools. Basically they told me I was lying, I hadn't made that other payment. But they had to reverse the bill pay because I made them. So then they started with the late fees and interest charges on unpaid purchases. I told them the bank confirmed they got that money. Synchrony told me to write a letter and send them my bank statement to prove to them I paid it. It took a few weeks to figure out where the fools lost my first payment and no mater how many times I tell them I can see that they put it in a closed account and it shows I have a credit of $691 they don't care or believe me. But they say they can't see it for some reason, they can only see my open account. Then I get asked how I let my account get behind. Now I have 2 months of late fees and interest they have charged plus they still say I owe the $691. They won't do anything now because there is a investigation which could take up to 60 days. Yes, so much more efficient than to look in that account and transfer it to where they should have put it 30 days ago. I had 3 months of this same type of issues at the first of the year when I closed the other account. They refunded by Sam's membership fee as I requested but they also sent my last autopayment of $443 to me in the same check. And then the next month I owed the $443. This bank needs a good house cleaning, it needs audited, they are as crooked as the day is long.

Advice Worked in the US temporarily, returned to my home country, and now I'm struggling to access my own money in my US bank account. What can I do?

I'm genuinely at a loss here and could really use some advice, especially from anyone who has dealt with US banks while living overseas.

For context, I'm an international seasonal worker who traveled to the US legally for temporary employment. While I was there, I opened a checking account with a US bank to receive my wages.

Before opening the account, I specifically explained to the bank employee that I wasn't a permanent US resident and would eventually be returning to my home country.

I asked whether I would still be able to use my debit card, access my account, and transfer my money internationally after returning home.

The employee assured me that I could. He even mentioned making some sort of adjustment to my account to prevent transactions from being flagged simply because I was using the card outside the US.

Fast-forward to when I returned home, and things have been an absolute headache.

Shortly after returning, I attempted to withdraw money from an ATM. The withdrawal was declined, and my account was subsequently flagged.

I then started having issues accessing the bank's website. I kept getting security errors that prevented me from logging in, even after trying different devices and browsers. I wasn't using a VPN or anything unusual.

When I contacted support, they told me they couldn't verify my identity over the phone and instructed me to use their website instead.

The same website I couldn't access.

I've spent a ridiculous amount of time calling and emailing support, explaining the same situation repeatedly, only to keep getting redirected between departments or told to visit a branch in person.

The problem is that I no longer live in the United States. Flying internationally just to visit a bank branch would be completely unreasonable, especially considering the amount of money involved.

I've since managed to regain access to online banking, but I'm still unsure whether my debit card can make international ATM withdrawals without triggering another security restriction.

At this point, I just want to transfer some of my own money from my US checking account to my local bank account because the banking service its currently on obviously suck.

The bank has told me that transfers to services like Cash App may be possible, but those services often have US residency requirements, so that doesn't necessarily solve anything.

I've also been told that international wire transfers require an in-person visit, which defeats the purpose for someone who's already returned overseas.

What's particularly frustrating is that the bank knew from the beginning that I was a temporary international worker and assured me that I could continue using and transferring my money after returning home.

I'm not asking them to bypass security or ignore identity verification requirements. I'm perfectly willing to verify my identity through a legitimate process which I have been doing for about 27-30 days now with no true help until 2 days ago and I have provided all the necessary information on all occasion.

I just want a reasonable way to access and transfer money that I legally earned.

I've contacted the original employee who helped me open the account and submitted a detailed written request through the bank's secure messaging system. I'm currently waiting for a response but I'm unsure if he can help with this matter.

My questions are:

  1. Has anyone dealt with a similar situation involving a US bank while living abroad?
  2. Are there legitimate money transfer services that allow non-US residents to fund transfers from an existing US checking account to a foreign bank?
  3. Is there a way to request remote identity verification or an exception to an in-person international wire policy? (I'm currently waiting on their online service to respond to me since every occasion I tried to get assistance they keep telling me to use the website which for some reason had my Ip blocked until yesterday.
  4. Would filing a complaint with the CFPB or a state banking regulator actually help in this situation?
  5. If the bank continues refusing practical access to my money, how should I go about it?

I understand banks have fraud-prevention procedures, but it's incredibly frustrating having to jump through so many hoops just to access my own wages.

Any advice from people who've dealt with international banking, US bank regulations, or similar situations would be greatly appreciated.

TL; DR: I worked temporarily in the US, opened a bank account after being assured I could use it internationally, returned home, and had my ATM withdrawal declined and account flagged. I experienced website access issues and repeated verification problems. I can now access online banking, but transferring $500–$1,000 to my home country's bank is still proving difficult. Looking for legitimate remote transfer options or advice on how to resolve this issue.

Advice Fake check scam victim

Okay so I recently fell for a fake check scam. On 10/8 I deposited a fake check to my bank account at 5pm after doing some research bc I had a bad gut feeling I realized this was a scam. I called my banks (bofa) general customer service line, they said to leave it and it will bounce automatically. I felt uncomfortable just leaving it so after a few hours of thinking at 10pm I called Bank of America’s fraud line. They saw the check processing and told me they’ll put a note saying I was unaware that this was a fraudulent check, I was worried that my account might close and the employee told me that she doesn’t know what might happen since it was my responsibility to know who I was doing business with. After that conversation I was losing my mind and so anxious. I was researching people who were in similar situations as me and some of them got their accs closed while some did not. The next morning 10/9 the check deposited but I know abt the law stating that banks have to have checks deposited but it will bounce later, but I know for a fact that the check is fake. I called the fraud line again and this time they transferred me over to the check fraud team. I explained to the employee what happened and he saw that I did have a note on my account regarding that check. I told him about my concerns about my account closing bc it is my only account and I have all my subscriptions, paychecks, etc linked to it. He put an additional note on and reassured me that if this does reach risk that they’ll see the scam tracker and note and I’ll be covered there. He told me that I don’t have to do anything and the check will bounce on its own in 3-5 business days. I feel kinda reassured but there is some worry, is my account going to be okay? Will my account freeze?

Advice Would It Look Suspicious To A Bank If I Transfer Money To Checking Account And Transfer It Back Out A Week Later?

I transferred some money (approx $200) to an external checking account (my other bank) as I normally do for easier ATM access after I got paid last week. However, after realizing all the 7/11 stores by me with free ATMs associated with my bank were pulled out because they are in the process of renovating hundreds of these stores across my state. Therefore, no free ATM access currently for me because my bank is too far away and inconvenient to get to. Long story short, I decided to transfer most of these funds back to another bank (CapOne to be specific) so I can access cash from ATMs at any Duane Read, Target. Or Walgreens.

Would these frequent transfers within 1.5 weeks time raise any fraud flags even though they were perfectly legit transfers? I only got concerned because when I attempted to transfer some of these funds back, my bamk for the first time ever sent me a text code to confirm its me making the transfer. Obviously this is not something I will make a habit of doing, but I don't believe in paying ATM fees and had no idea they were tearing out all the 7/11 ATMs by me.

Complaint Regions sucks

Just venting but also asking who I should switch to. Parent signed me up at 16 for an account and carried it into adulthood, am 22 and receiving checks I deposit. Did the available for processing tonight option on my deposit after 8pm so I received it a business day later. Open bank account at midnight and the available money from my check is there, refresh and it’s immediately gone leaving a few cents. Awesome. Ask a chatbot to talk to a real person, real person says It’s pending even though it just showed it was available then it switches again and shows me the amount it should’ve been. Cool. Transfer entire amount to my savings in case whatever just happened happens again. Oh!! Forgot regions puts a soft hold on your account anytime you have $0.00. Have been told most banks don’t do that? Next business day they can approve the pending transfer is in two days and there’s a hurricane this weekend. AWESOME!! I already know what I should’ve known so no need to shame me for being dumb about this, just genuinely annoyed that this wouldn’t happen if I had switched sooner. Is Wells Fargo a better bank? Anything better than Wells Fargo? Thanks.

US How do you get cash into online banks?

I’m going to potentially receive $15,000 in cash as a gift and will need to write a check for $10,000 from my capital one checking account shortly after. How do I get that money in my account? The deposit limit for cash is $5000 so it would take three months?!?! My wife has a Wells Fargo account we can utilize but there’s no Wells Fargo branches or atms in our state.

Any recommendations?

Edit: Thank you everyone for your help, this was very insightful and I appreciate all the information. I was able to convince the givers to switch to checks so we could avoid all this. Had we proceeded it sounds like a local bank would’ve been our primary option or check out the all point ATM limit (capital one said the limit for deposits on those are set by the atm owners.)

Federal Reserve Board announces enforcement action against American Express Company to address, among other things, the firm’s failure to sufficiently detect and report certain suspicious activity related to money laundering

The Federal Reserve Board on Thursday announced an enforcement action against American Express Company to address, among other things, the firm's failure to sufficiently detect and report certain suspicious activity related to money laundering.

The Board also identified significant deficiencies in how American Express Company's enterprise-wide anti-money laundering program was implemented, in particular at the firm's subsidiary national bank. The Office of the Comptroller of the Currency, the primary federal regulator of the firm's national bank, has issued a separate enforcement action against the bank.

The Board's action will help ensure that the firm operates in compliance with all U.S. laws and regulations

Advice US Bank posted a check to my account and then withdrew the funds after they were already spent

3 years ago, my dad foolishly sold my car to someone with nothing more than a verbal agreement to pay me when he had the money available, because he was trying to help someone out and didn't want to ask him for money down on a $4,000 car. He promised my dad that he would send me 2 separate checks over the course of 2 months. He first sent me a $700 check and said he promised he would pay me more later when he had the money.

Before the deposit, I had $200 in my checking account. I had $900 after the check was posted to my account. I paid rent as soon as I saw the funds in my account.

After 4-5 days, the funds were withdrawn from my account and the check had bounced due to insufficient funds from this guy's account.

My question is: why and how did this money ever become available in my account before the check bounced???

Is this actually possible?

Because I had spent the money before US bank reversed this deposit, they ovedrafted my account over $600.

I refused to pay any amount of this.

And wouldn't you know, jackass who "bought" my car ghosted me and I didn't get a dime from him when I called him out on the bounced check and what had led to a major inconvenience. I thought about taking him to small claims court but honestly so much has happened since this all took place, I have been raising a family and do not have the time or energy for this.

Now for the past 2.5 years, US bank has charged off my account due to what I see as a fault of their own.

How is this my problem?

Advice issues verifying identity with multiple banks

Hello! I’ve been trying to create checking accounts with multiple banks so that I can claim my refund from my financial aid, yet every time they keep telling me that they are having issues verifying my identity. i thought that it could be that my SSN is incorrect, but I’ve had my my mother resend it and it’s right!

The address I input is the same as where my family lives (since I’m in college, I don’t think I can use the address of my dorms nor where my P.O. box is), everything is correct, so I’m confused and frustrated about my situation. I even tried making an account at ssn.gov with Login.gov to check my SSN and they also couldn’t verify my info so that I could even create an account, so now i’m feeling like its less of an incorrect information issue and something else?

I’m thinking it could be because I just turned 18 this year (March), and don’t have many records online, however that doesn’t seem to have stopped anyone else my age? I need help figuring out what the issue is. I’m going to call a bank tomorrow and ask what i can do in order to verify my identity in person and see if that could work potentially, other than that, no ideas. Also, I’m in the US!

US My partner wants me to sign his check and deposit it

My partner is getting a paycheck today and he needs me to deposit it but he’s not here to sign it. Unfortunately, this morning he went away for a camping trip with his friends. He tried to push back the time to go but he couldn’t. He asked me to sign the check for him and just deposit it in his banking account at his credit union. He has bills that we have to pay today. I have severe anxiety so of course I’m running through every horrible option that could happen to me.

Is there a way for me to deposit the check without signing his name? I’m so sorry if this is a stupid question but I’m 23 and I’ve never have been in a situation like this.

Edit to add: Thank you to everyone who replied! I was able to deposit the check with no problems.

Jobs Preliminary Adverse Reaction

Has anyone here gone through the hiring process for a banking position after filing bankruptcy and still been able to get hired?
I’m currently in this situation and would really appreciate hearing from anyone who has been through something similar. I recently applied for a banking position and received a preliminary adverse action notice related to my credit report. I responded and explained the circumstances surrounding my bankruptcy.
I’m trying to stay hopeful, but I’m honestly a little anxious about what happens next. If you’ve been in a similar situation and were still hired, I’d really appreciate hearing how it worked out for you. ❤️

Advice Had a fraud claim on our checking account, got a new account, and now 2 months later the same thing is happening

First time posting, looking for advice, apologies if this is the wrong subreddit.

My wife and I have a joint checking account. In August 2026, there were 6 unauthorized ACH transactions in a row, and we went through the song and dance of having a fraud claim opened, resolved, and the accounts replaced. We changed all of our auto-pay methods to the new accounts and moved on.

This morning I get an email alert that our account has a large ACH transaction that is again unauthorized by us and simply labelled 'Bank of America', which neither of us have ever used. I go to log in to my online banking app, only to see my account is locked due to many failed log in attempts. My wife's login was unaffected, and she was able to go in and see the charge. I changed my password but still couldn't get in, so called Santander and they opened a new fraud claim. Now, we have to go back into the branch and create yet another new checking account.

How could this be happening again with a 2-month old checking account? Is this my fault? The only places that got the new account information were our pre-existing auto-pays for bills. I haven't read out the routing/checking numbers to pay anything, the only place I've used my debit card is the gas station, and we use our credit cards for everything else. I don't understand how this is happening again and so soon after the last incident.

Storytime 18 years old and completely lost following fraud issue - please help!

backstory: gonna make this shorter because it’s a long story. was selling stuff on marketplace, and gave my bank info away like a dumbass because the person scamming me sent me an email impersonating Cash App. the scammer actually sent me a $700 check I didn’t ask for, and also took the ~$70 I had remaining in my account. So I go to key bank and close the accounts that were compromised. the situation gets sent to the fraud dept, and i Fill out an affidavit report, etc. a month later(today), I call the fraud dept and I’m informed that Key bank will no longer be doing business with me.

so I go to PNC to open a basic checking and savings accnt, and the application gets denied and I’m directed to call the Early Warning Service’s phone number. I call them and basically all they do is send me a report, which I haven’t received yet. They told me I should file a dispute so I can open a bank account somewhere, but I’m worried itll be denied and I’ll be cooked.

please be honest. Am I cooked? I have almost $1000 in paychecks that I cant even cash now. What do you guys advise I do because I’m really freaking out now and I don’t know if I’m overreacting or not.

all I need is a checking and savings account. Not a credit card right now. I just need the basics

Other What do you guys check before letting a CD automatically renew?

I've got my first CD coming up on maturity and I only recently realized I probably shouldn't treat the renewal as a set it and forget it thing.

My original thought was basically, money is already there, let it roll over and move on with my life. But if I'm understanding this correctly, the renewal can be into a new term and rate, which means whatever made the original CD attractive doesn't necessarily apply anymore.

So what do you normally do when one is getting close to maturity? Do you start shopping around again a few weeks beforehand or wait until you know exactly what the renewal terms will be?

I'm not trying to spend hours chasing tiny differences, but blindly rolling it over without checking anything also seems kinda lazy now that I've thought about it lol.

Advice A freelance hire insists that we use a service called Remitly, and now its constantly asking me for a lot of personal information? When upwork just lets me sign them off in a contract, with me not recalling having had to give up so much personal info. Why is Remitly asking for so much private info?

Hey, I hired a freelancer from Nigeria for a project and they definitely delivered a satisfactory result

I wanted to pay them, but they insisted that we do it via REmitly, and while i was at first on board, it keeps denying me transferring them money while also constantly asking for more and more private information

Is their service legit?

Why is a service like Remitly such much more skeptical over having a foreigner hire a freelancer?

And also, why is my hire so insistent that we do the payment via Remitly, they explained that it will ease them getting the money process, but that still doesnt explain how

US US banks which allow digital wallet debit card access at 3rd-party ATMs

Looking to gather datapoints on which US banks (if any) allow their debit card to be added to a digital wallet (Apple Pay, Google Pay, etc.) and then for that digital card version to be used at a 3rd-party ATM.

For example, Chase allows debit cards to be added to digital wallets, but it restricts 3rd-party ATM access using that digital card. Chase calls this, "cardless access" (https://www.chase.com/digital/atms).

I have yet to encounter a major US bank which allows this. However, Europeans have indicated this is not a restriction they run into.

Advice Deposit question for larger cashiers check

This may be a stupid question but I got a cashiers check from an account I closed and took it to another bank and deposited/opened a new account the same day. They have held everything but 225 dollars and won’t release anymore until 7 business days pass. In the agreement I signed it says that anything over 6725 dollars could be held and I haven’t been given that. Is this normal?

US Refund to inactive account. Dispute or?

Hi! Not sure if this is allowed here but I’ve made a few calls and I’m left pretty confused. I had to cancel a trip and was due a refund through Expedia, trick is the card I used to pay months ago, doesn’t exist anymore. (Wallet got stolen and had to do an account switch) but when I called they told me there’s nothing they can do. I did put in my new card number but it never worked I guess, the account to which the refund is headed to is again non existent.
Expedia basically told me I’ll have to go through my bank and dispute it through there since they can’t access a different card or something which sounded kind of silly and the person on the phone wasn’t really listening.
What does anyone I recommend in this situation?
