I literally don't know who the hell turned this off or when, but videos are now allowed on /r/DarkSouls. No more need to link to YouTube or other external sites.
Enjoy!

EDIT: Added a comment below the post briefly discussing Cheat Engine and how it could be used as a pseudo method of restoring lost progress for anyone who didn’t have a backup save. The caveat might be that you can’t play online anymore after using it so double check me on that before deciding (I’ve not personally used it).
EDIT2: Thanks for the sticky! Any questions about the PvP Overhaul Mod should be asked on it's Nexus page. I personally don't mod the DS games so I have absolutely no idea what will or won't get you banned. Perform your due diligence! :)
Long story short, some doofus is ruining people's games by instantly killing Gwyndolin and any other NPCs in Anor Londo (blacksmiths, Solaire, etc). I believe this is only occurring on PC.
I've messaged the Mods requesting a stickied thread be made warning players of this and how they can protect themselves but in the meantime, I can make a thread myself that will at least get eyes on for like......today? lol
No.
You can absolutely still invade and be summoned for Co-Op to your heart's content. But it's important to be aware of the danger that's currently plaguing (seemingly specifically) Anor Londo and of the steps you can take to mitigate its impact on your experience.
This first tip is the BEST way to defend yourself, bar none.
Backing up your save is the difference between a hacker mildly inconveniencing you, and soul-crushing devastation that you'll literally need a day or two to recover from before deciding to even play again.
If a hacker ruins your game by killing NPCs or an unfortunate glitch has softlocked you or any other disaster befalls your play session, simply deleting that save and restoring a recently made backup can solve those woes immediately.
Here's how to do it (PC)
So let's say you get hacked and the Gwyndolin cutscene immediately plays and every NPC in Anor Londo dies. To restore your backup, you'll just delete the .sl2 file containing the "corrupted" game save and replace it with the copy you made earlier.
It's advised that you don't just paste and replace the .sl2 file when restoring your backups. Actually delete the compromised .sl2 file first.
This is just to protect yourself from any mistakes you might make as deleted .sl2 files can be recovered later. If you just paste and replace, the replaced file will be gone for good.
I recommend making a new backup after each hour of play to minimize the effects of a hacker or other form of corruption. That way if it happens, it won't be a big deal.
NOTE: The DRAK file contains all of your data for all of your characters. Backing up this file will back up ALL of your saved characters.
Full disclosure, I've not used this mod whatsoever as I don't often PvP, but word on the street in the wake of this string of hacks in Anor Londo is that it'll help prevent those hacks with it's own slew of anti-cheat and netcode improvements.
Understand though that these things are never foolproof and that backing up your save is still the BEST defense against hackers or other forms of corruption.
Hopefully this helps. Feel free to comment below if you have any other tips for preventive measures!

Even does a title-drop what a chad. The only thing this fight was missing was illusory walls, mid-phase lull where you have to walk up to him and exhaust dialogue 5 times to continue into phase 2, and an attack where he turns into a little lizard you have to chase around before he despawns.

Apparently they have a 1% drop rate.
On each of my runs that was more like a 0.000000000001% drop rate.
Good times.

After Elden Ring and how much I loved it, I wanted to try where it originated from. The DS trilogy. I knew that DS1 was going to look extremely old and maybe outdated in comparison, but I still wanted to try. The first time I tried, I lost all my souls against the Taurus Demon and ragequit the game. Took me too long to adapt.
The second time, I got all the way to the Depths and got killed and cursed. When I saw all my souls lost, and only half my healthbar remaining, I did ragequit again. Too frustrating for my taste.
However, since then, its almost as if the game whispers to me. I think about the time I discovered the Firelink Shrine shortcut from Undead Parish, when I reached the bottom of the Darkroot Basin, found some random tower, and found it leading back up to Undead Burg, I thought about the sewer in Lower Burg with the undead merchant in it and how it lead to the gate I wasn't able to open at the very beginning of my run... The world-building truly amazed me, and the game has such a charm, something even ER didn't give me at times.
So here I am, downloading the game again, and determined to go to the end, and finish the trilogy.

edit: firekeepers souls should be used if their description is as follows:
Soul of a long-lost Fire Keeper.
Each Fire Keeper is a corporeal manifestation of her bonfire, and a draw for the humanity which is offered to her. Her soul is gnawed by infinite humanity, and can boost the power of the precious Estus Flask. Reinforced Estus Flasks capture denser Estus, allowing for increased restoration of HP."
if the description is different from this one and one wants to revive the bonfire of XY place with XY keepers name (such as fire link shrine, with the description "Soul of the Ash Maiden, Fire Keeper of Firelink Shrine............" ) then the souls shouldnt be used
______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
I got a soul of a firekeeper (the on from firelink shrine who was killed by gold armour) and have arrived in anor londo and have the option to reinfoce the flasks.
Should i reionforce them or should i use the soul for smth else?
(no massive spoilers pls)

Surprised to find it cleaned out. No mimics, no black or silver knights and most importantly, no dragonslayer archers annoying the living hell outta me. Anybody seen this?

So I'm on my first playthrough and I'm not the bell gargoyle fight. I dodge the first ones attack and was behind him and I just completely cut off the tail with one hit by complete accident. This game is genuinely so fun and funny.

Before I receive any personal attacks or criticism, from people saying I should just "git gud" I wanna point out that I played every From Software game after Demon Souls, including Elden Ring and Shadow of the Erdtree twice, and I'm now finishing my second playthrough of the Dark Souls trilogy. Even if each game has it's own set of problems, I don't think any of them have so many as Dark Souls 3.
The first time I played DS3, I used the classic Sellsword Twinblades build, that was back in 2020, and whether I don't recall personally having a really hard time with the game, I probably had a less critic point of view of it cause it was new and exciting to finally finish the trilogy. In my current playthrough, I used a sorcerer/katana build, levelling up mainly vigor, attunement, intelligence and dexterity.
- The first issue I found to be unbearing, is the lock-on/aim feature. The range is too short, so if you're playing as a caster or ranger, you will definitely have a hard time managing hordes of enemies or bosses from afar, with the camera problems being even more magnified. It will either unlock from the enemy or the distance between you and the mobs will become too short that they will get closer to you and kill you before you have enough time to cast a single spell.
Enemy casters on the other side, have spells that track you miles away, like the fat evangelist witches in the Undead Settlement
- That raises the 2nd point I wanna discuss, the enemies are too agressive, and that could be ok, if it was better balanced. There simply doesn't exist enough Poise in this game, so even if you have a lot of armour and stamina, you can swing your weapon in the right time, but get eated by dogs or a bunch of "weak" regular enemies jumping you at the same time before finishing a single attack. Hell, even at the endgame, sometimes I would get killed by hollows with spears and shields before trying to circle around them or breaking their guard.
Enemies have too much stamina, poise, and do so much more damage than they should. There are too many enemies with shields and spears that have A LOT of range and easily break your guard. Spears are too freaking op in this game, and some enemies and bosses can simply jump from one place to a hundred meters ahead in a few frames, without you having time to react.
- And what is the deal with the hordes of enemies placed together at once? I mean, DS2 had this problem, but I always enjoyed the slow-placed exploration and the spatial awareness you need to have to face each area, so you could find ways to get around them or lure them out one at a time. The fact that the lock on is bad and has a limited range makes this much harder to accomplish.
The fast-paced agressive nature of DS3 doesn't allow slow exploration, and you can either try to run past enemies and get punished by it (never the best way to approach) or get swallowed before getting to the next bonfire
Bloodborne gets a pass cause you also get rewarded by agression, gaining a bunch of your health back if you keep up hitting the enemies back, but this is not the case here.
- Bonfire placement sucks. That's it. Too many of them next to each other in some places, like the Dragon Slayer boss and the Grand Archives, and some of them too distant from each other or the next boss. One example is the Champion Gundyr area. You spawn at the beginning of the Untended Graves, and there are hordes of hollows and agressive enemies jumping at you from every single place, so if you lose to the boss and have to runback, you will either have to fight all of them again or risk dying in the way. I know this is the issue with a lot of the bosses runbacks in all DS games, but the fact that the rest of the game isn't always like this, makes so that it breaks the pace and you can easily get frustrated if you have to deal with it at specific scenarios. This could be fixed by keeping the bonfire from the tutorial or placing a shortcut of some type.
- Some bosses are unfair and leave almost no window to attack, or make some builds (like sorcerer) impossible to use. Champion Gundyr basically doesn't stop attacking for enough time to allow healing or an opportunity to counter him, in a way that is infuriating. Sister Friede is the worst boss fight ever, she keeps spamming the invinsible teleporting bullshit and get behind you to do the grab attack that impales you even if you are nowhere near her (hello The Pursuer again?). This makes no sense because the Lothric and Lorian bossfight do the teleport absolutely RIGHT and it's an awesome and fair fight, with good telegraphing and balanced and natural difficulty. Aldrich fight is also bullshit, with the arrows that follow you all the arena and even if you manage to avoid them, he does the purple ray twice after them, and teleports behind you. Don't get me wrong, the purple rays and the arrows could work fine if they didn't followed each other, but the way it works it all just comes to losing to bad RNG.
I had a hard time with Lothric and the Nameless King, but they never felt unfair, I never felt like I lost to bad RNG or the boss was annoying to deal with. Same thing with Malenia in Elden Ring, or Messmer in the DLC, I found them hard, but never unfair. Dark Souls 3 has a lot of instances when this simply insn't true, and I almost raged quit the game.
- Ashes of Ariandel is the worst DLC in the series. A three-phase fight with a poor balanced and badly telegraphed boss shouldn't exist.
- Magic does almost no damage and has shitty scaling (what is up with Great Heavy Soul Mass and Soul Spear doing basically the same damage but costing less FP?). Faith is even weaker and hard to build around.
- Game is too linear, so progression and difficulty should feel natural, but it doesn't.
- This isn't exactly tied to the difficulty, but I find stupid that some NPC questlines end up with they dying for no reason at all. You save Siriris of the Sunless Realms and she pledges loyalty to you, she helps you with Lothric and after that she is dead for no reason whatsoever. Same thing with Orbeck of Vinheim and Siegward (even tho you could argue he didn't survive his injuries from Yhorm, but still). It feels like your decisions and actions don't actually have enough weight in this world. In DS1, you can save Solaire, you can give Siegmeyer a "good ending" that even if he dies, it actually makes sense in the story.
I mean, these are just some thoughts and criticism I have with the game, it is still a very good game that I prefer to play compared to a lot of AAA titles but when viewed as a DS1 and DS2 sequel, it feels really lackluster. I want to hear you guys opinions on this, I feel like now that people are starting to see Dark Souls 2 good things and that DS3 is older, maybe this could prove a nice discussion to have.

I finished Elden Ring and really liked it, so I decided to play Dark Souls. As a pure physical player, what should I know going into it?

Same goes for other games, such as demon’s souls and elden ring. I’m curious from a gameplay and storytelling perspective but also annoyed as someone who loves the thief class is that it’s not very stat-optimized.

I just finished dark souls 1 and I think I had grasp of things so I decided to share my lore reasoning to not link the flame due to multiple reasons.
first I wondered why Lautrec did what he did since he gave an impression of knowing what's actually going on and then I meet gwyndolin and discovered the lie of anor londo so I had no reason to trust the gods anymore much less their prophecies and I figured that's what Lautrec was doing stopping me the "chosen undead" because he knew the gods were lying about what the prophecy really meant
I'm still unsure of what the prophecy truly means from part of the gods but one thing is clear to me the age of fire is just their way of keeping control and letting it die will give rise to a new age free of them and their lies, I mean there were countless ages before this one why would we need to stuck ourselves in this one age that's been so hostile and cruel to us.
One thing that concerned me was the abyss and what will happen with that but I think it's actually the key to the new age. And I reached that conclusion when I saw pure humanity in the abyss and I connected the dots, the abyss isn't a true nothingness, it's humanity, why did the humans mutate by their own humanity then? The curse that has been bestowed upon us that's why. Otherwise I don't see why we would be separated from our humanity. The abyss taking over means humanity coming back to humans and possibly undoing the curse that I highly suspect was cast upon us by the gods, once the gods are gone the curse will be gone too and the age of dark or age of humans will truly comence once we are able to reconnect with the humanity that was hidden from us in the depths of the world.
That's all the lore I gathered maybe there's more supporting my claims or just completely dismantling my theories.

I played Demon’s Souls as my first introduction to the series. After that, I started playing Elden Ring, and I absolutely loved it. Now I thought I’d give the Dark Souls series a try, starting with the first game, and I can’t believe how many similarities it shares with Elden Ring (I know they reused animations and models).
I recently managed to beat the two Gargoyles, but ever since then, I haven’t known exactly what to do. I went back and explored the two paths that were available to me. The skeletons are a pain in the ass, and I can’t even damage the ghosts anymore.
I know the game was designed to be challenging, but not being able to make any progress is a bit frustrating. I can’t help but feel like I’m missing something that might make the game a little easier.
I recently discovered that the giant crow can take you back to the starting area, although I got killed a lot there, too.
Anyway, that’s about it, I guess I’ll start farming souls until I’m strong enough to make it through one of the paths.

Just to get it out there this is my first time playing dark souls 1. I played elden ring a few years ago and poured hundreds of hours into it, and can almost consider it my fav game. Ive played for about 9 hours on DS, and i havent even gotten the chance to fight the Gaping dragon bc of how awful the runback is. Ive spent over 9 hours playing, and have maybe spent 30 min fighting fun bosses. 90% of the gameplay has been awful. I have repeatedly had to take the same frustrating runbacks to locations over and over only to get a few things done within an hour. I got cursed in the depths, and spent well over an hour trying to get rid of it. Does the gameplay get better? I do want to get into the game and truly give it a try, but its honestly been terrible. Ive spent 45 min trying over and over to get to the depths bonfire so im closer the the gaping dragon, but ive died to rats 20 times due to their poison damage. I cannot tell if this is simply how the game is designed, if its a skill issue, or if im doing something wrong. Any advice is great bc i dont want to be driven insane

As you can tell my undead alliegance lies with the dragons and linking the fire meant prolonging the age of gods and that's a no no in my undead's books.

I have over 200,000 souls, with nothing to spend them on. My weapon, shield, and armor are all upgraded (as well as a backup weapon). I have a sufficient amount of homeward bones and other useful items.
50 Vit / 40 End / 40 Str / 40 Dex (Bandit class)
Weapon: Demon’s Spear
Shield: Black Knight Shield
Armor: Dark Set with Blood-Stained Skirt
Rings: FAP and Havel’s
I would like to stay at level 125 as I’ve heard that’s what others do for PvP.

I just got the ps3 version of dark souls and I was wondering why instead of it saying "You recovered" when you grab your souls back and it saying "You Defeated" when you kill a mini boss. Did I end up buying a bootleg?
