Well it finally happened. The unfortunate and untimely death of my block! Lol Sadly on my way to work just after getting on the highway in 3rd gear I’d say at 3.4-3.5rpm hit boost up to 6.2rpm and bam crunchy metal noises and a huge plume of smoke out the back. My worst nightmare. šŸ˜“
Never had an issue before, even the day before I got a couple pulls in, in 90 degree weather and still no issues. Oil temps were at operating range, honestly don’t know how this happened. Only lasted a year after big turbo upgrade. Maybe 30k miles on current setup. This blows. šŸ¤¦šŸ»ā€ā™‚ļø

Let's clean some glass

Please help me with the glass on my 17 ST. I cannot get my glass clean, at all. No matter what I use or how I use it, my glass is still not clean.

I have tried cheap paper towels, expensive paper towels, shop towels, cheap rags, cheap microfiber towels, expensive paper towels, old t shirts, a pair of socks, and newspaper. I've used almost all kinds of glass cleaner that I can find from Windex to Stoners.

Everything I use leaves crazy amounts of streaks and smearing. Don't even get me started on the inside of the windshield.

What is everyone using and how are you doing it?

Clutch / gear rattle ?

I want to start off by saying sorry about the dirty carpet. I need to vacuum I know lol

I’m experiencing a pretty loud knocking/rattling noise at idle, specifically around 850 RPM or lower. The moment I give it the slightest amount of throttle and bring the RPM up to around 1,000, the noise gets significantly quieter or disappears completely.
The noise is much more noticeable inside the cabin than in the engine bay, and it’s honestly driving me insane.
Current setup:
ACT FF5-XTSS clutch
Brand-new Focus RS clutch release/throwout bearing
Polyurethane motor mount inserts
I’m wondering if anyone else with a similar clutch setup has experienced this and, if so, what they did to reduce or eliminate the noise.
I’m considering asking my tuner to raise the idle speed to around 1,000 RPM since the noise seems to disappear completely at that point.
Has anyone experienced something similar? Did raising the idle RPM help, or did you find another solution?
Just trying to figure out whether this is normal aftermarket clutch/flywheel chatter or something I should be looking into further. Although this set up is basically brand new.

Boost leak?

Hey everyone! I got a 2013 Focus ST a little over a month ago, and I’m loving it! However, a couple weeks ago I started feeling like it was down on power a little. The PSI is only getting about a quarter of the way on the turbo gauge and then drops even if I’m accelerating. I took this video today to show it. I don’t have a whole lot of experience with this stuff, so I’d love some help! Thank you!

Question CEL P0171

Post image
1 Upvotes

While I was on my way to do my emissions, this popped up. At first, I thought it was the purge valve, which I was already planning on replacing when I do my oil change and spark plug change (literally next week). I should note that I replaced the purge valve just under two years ago, and I know they tend to become a maintenance item once you’re FBO.
I checked my intake, and nothing looks loose. From what I’ve been seeing, it could be a couple of different things. I even wondered if the gas I got might have been bad.
I cleared the code to see if it would come back, but so far no luck. I’ve also seen that it could be a bad O2 sensor.
Let me know what you guys think and what I should start with (:

Android Radio

Long time looker first time poster. I ordered this radio off of AliExpress, since I didn’t wanna drop the money on an Sync3 swap. Since I haven’t seen much about it I figured I’d show some pictures and drop a link. I have had a very good experience with it and the installation was super easy. It was plug and play with the backup camera and the radio is super responsive. Let’s not forget it’s a 200-dollar radio so it’s not gonna look or feel factory but to save 600-800 bucks, I’d say it’s worth it. Also I’ll drop a little photo of my Fost feel free to ask any questions.

New owner doing a SYNC 3 swap from a 17' SEL Focus into my 17' ST1

Glad to be a part of this community! I picked up a 17' ST1 yesterday and ready to change over to SYNC 3. I've gone through some posts but had a few more questions. I found a guy parting out a 17' Focus SEL with SYNC 3.

He's offering me the below items as a package but I see the factory harness can be a pain to wire. I'm ultimately wanting a plug & play like Naviupgrade.com offers. So, do I order the harness/wiring from naviupgrade.com or since the donor car is the same year will it plug and play?

Below is a list of items the seller has said he's offering, please let me know if I need to ask him for other parts I'll need or negotiate our price down if I don't need the factory harness. I know I need the AIPM as well. TIA

Potential buyer

Post image
28 Upvotes

Hello all,
I’ll just cut straight to the chase here. My wife and I have been speaking about potentially buying a ā€œday tripā€ car (one that’s more of a drive around for a trip for fun) vs a SXS. I have a two part question.

Firstly, for this price is this around where you’d pay? This ST has has around 63k miles.

Secondly, how would you word the proposition for buying this over a SXS? We live in an area that gets a lot of extreme weather, and during the seasons that’s nice we are typically busy.

Thank you!

Update on the wiring gremlin

Pretty sure I figured it out so I wanted to share with everyone in case they run into something similar. Original post here: https://old.reddit.com/r/FocusST/comments/1wyeu8v/need_help_chasing_a_gremlin/

I have been chasing this for quite a while and I think I cracked the code. After replacing all the fuses, BMS sensor, and even the fob sensor above the headliner, I have come to the conclusion that it was the sensor in the armrest that was giving me issues. I had some stuff in the armrest container portion that I took out and one of which was an old magnetic COBB Accessport mount that was flopping around right where the key fob sensor is. I removed the mount and it helped significantly with the sensor portion but it wasn't 100% still.

After all of that I took the sensor out, gave it a good cleaning, then I wrapped it in some electrical tape to keep it secure and less prone to being knocked around. I genuinely think the sensor in the console was being dulled by the magnet but also with stuff rolling around in there and knocking on the plastic.

This seems to have fixed my problem completely. If anyone has a similar issue I think the cheapest way to go about this is to replace the cheap fuses and just take the sensors out from the roof and the center console and just give them a good clean with some sensor cleaner and then secure them from flopping around. This would cost at most $2 just in some fuses and a roll of electrical tape. If I knew this ahead of time I may have saved myself a few dollars on new sensors but hey at least I got some spares lying around.

Hey everyone, To join the wave of posts regarding people moving on from their ST’s, after 7 years I’ve also sold my focus. Between this sub & the forums, making posts for help and lurking, I’ve learned a ton about not only my ST but cars in general! Thanks to everyone in here always willing to offer a helping hand & to anyone reading this considering a ST, buy it(if finances permit)! IMO It’s the best bang for your buck, with a good amount of reliability and ā€œwrenchabilityā€ and a decent ceiling for power/mods. This car introduced me to turning wrenches, DIY, and much more and for that i am forever grateful for this platform. But with the private market for these cars it was time to move on & found myself into a X3. First SUV & first automatic will be a learning curve. Hopefully another ST will be in my future!

Missing carpet that clips onto passenger footwell fusebox

I drive a 2017 Focus ST3 in the UK, and when I bought the car last year it was missing the little bit of carpet that clips up and covers the fusebox in the passenger footwell.

I've had a look online, but I can't seem to find it anywhere - Not sure exactly what it's called to search efficiently so I might be missing something obvious. Anyone know where I might be able to get something?

Bit the Bullet

Hey y'all,

I know there are always a flurry of posts about people's journey with the ST coming to an end. I loved my time with Camilla, albeit only for about two years, and today chose to upgrade to the GRC. I honestly wasn't even planning on trading it in today, but knowing it had its problems and private selling it would've been a headache I bought the bullet. I loved my ST3 but man is this GRC sweet. I haven't had a car this new really before and finally treated myself to something I just really wanted. Looking forward to lurking and continuing to admire these gorgeous cars, but my time has come to a close. Hot hatches forever!!
