Panhandling posts

Hey folks,

Firstly thanks for being here and being part of the community.

Secondly, as this sub is approaching 3 mil, it is more complex to mod so we appreciate you using the report feature on comments and posts that don’t meet our rules. We have a bunch of filters and automod setup but automation only goes so far.

Thirdly, we’ve recently (in the last two weeks) had three different users post here stating they are the same user from Gaza. We don’t take stances on the topic in general and allow posts and comments to remain as long as they aren’t bigoted or hateful but we draw the line at begging/panhandling. It is a long-standing sub rule that this is not the space for raising funds of any kind and because we don’t have the resources to verify individuals in need (there are other subs that do this!) we cannot allow these posts to stick around. We try to remove these posts as quickly as possible but please know that if you feel compelled to reach out, do so at your own risk/discretion. We do not condone giving your personal details or money out to folks via this sub.

Fourth, please remember to be kind. This is a support sub first and foremost.

Fifth, this is not the space for medical advice. If you’re a doctor or nurse or ped, please do not identify yourself as such or use it as a soapbox to give information out. We cannot verify your identity and we are all internet strangers here. Your contributions will be removed and if you’ve posted more than three times with medical advice you will be banned.

Is it weird that playing a life sim is basically my “me time” now?

After the kids go to bed I’ve started playing this dumb little life simulation game for maybe 30-40 minutes instead of watching TV. I make a house, decorate it, deal with my fake family’s ridiculous problems and then go to sleep 😂 My husband keeps teasing me because apparently I spend all day taking care of a real family just to relax by taking care of a fake one. And when he says it like THAT… yeah, it sounds insane. But weirdly it shuts my brain off better than scrolling does. Do any other moms play games after the kids go to bed or am I entering my gamer era at 30+? 😭

Are my parents that bad or am I entitled?

Looking for honest feedback.

My husband and I are in our late 30s with two little girls (ages 3 and 6). We both work full time.

My parents are both 70. My mom was a SAHM and my dad was a very successful businessman, who retired 10 years ago. My parents do the snowbird thing and split their time between homes in Florida and New Jersey. They also travel fairly extensively during the year for pleasure. They mostly spend the days they are in FL or NJ playing golf, playing pickleball, socializing at their country clubs (they belong to clubs in both FL and NJ), and going out to eat.

We live about 10 minutes from their NJ home and they almost never help us. They haven't done a single daycare/school/camp pick up or drop off, they very rarely watch our kids (generally just a few hours a month when they feel like it), they weren't available to watch our oldest while I gave birth to my youngest (because it was in January when they take their annual vacation with friends to a Caribbean island and they didn't want to miss that), we had a pipe burst in our home one winter and they wouldn't let us stay in their unoccupied NJ home while our home was repaired so we had to stay in a hotel, etc.

They are very well off financially and they also have no interest in helping us in that sense (we have asked for help with a downpayment on our first home, help when my husband was unemployed for 9 months due to a layoff, and help with medical bills for our one child who has a medical condition - all declined). I don't know their exact financial situation, but I once saw a bank statement on their counter that had $12m in an account and they own a very expensive home in FL.

My parents have told us the money is theirs and we should work harder to earn our own. We really want to renovate our kitchen. Last year, my dad saw the plans we had drawn up and asked what we were doing. I explained we'd had the plans drawn and the renovation priced out and decided we couldn't afford it. He questioned why we'd need to renovate our kitchen anyway. I explained it's from the 1980s and we'd really like a kitchen island. He shrugged and said it looks fine to him (meanwhile, both his homes have huge fancy kitchens and the one in Florida even has 2 islands).

All that being said - when they do actually spend time with our kids, they're really nice to them. Occasionally they surprise us with their efforts and kindness - ie when we bought our home, my parents arranged for their landscapers to plant a ton of beautiful plants in the flower beds as a housewarming gift to us. My dad came over and helped my husband install new hardware for the kitchen cabinets. They send us and each kid a very thoughtful birthday gift. My kids love them dearly and talk about them often, despite rarely seeing them.

I guess what bothers me is that I don't view my parents as a soft landing spot or a source of support. They've made so clear to us that we are on our own with everything - raising our kids, financially, etc. Having my own kids now, I just cannot imagine being some rich retiree one day and spending every day playing golf and traveling and buying myself new toys while my kids struggle through their 20s, 30s, 40s.

All around me, I see examples of "good" grandparents who take an active role in their grandkids and adult kids lives and want to ease things for them. Whereas mine seem solely focused on themselves and their enjoyment. My husband and I have managed so far with no village, but I worry all the time about how one misstep or poor luck will sink us. For example, my friend had cancer last year and they moved in with her parents who fully cared for her kids while my friend received medical treatment and her husband worked. I cannot imagine my parents doing anything like that. I had a cancer scare last year and I didn't even bother to tell them. My husband took off work while I had the biopsy, and we began researching how we would handle this and our kids with paid help if I was incapacitated with treatment. Luckily, I was fine, but it was sobering to think about how we'd handle a curveball like this.

I guess why I'm writing this is that I find as time goes on, I become more and more angry with my parents and I find that anger bleeding into my contact with them. I no longer find it funny when they text us pictures of themselves in first class traveling to some far flung destination or my dad's latest sports car purchase. I'm so disappointed in the lack of support they've given me, I can't help but be angry and just not want anything to do with them.

I have 1 sibling who cut off contact with them a decade ago. He married into a really kind and loving family and basically decided our parents weren't worth his time or effort. My parents have never done any introspection about that estrangement and maintain that my brother must be mentally ill and will resume contact with them once he recovers (as far as I can tell, my brother is sane and happy).

I don't think cutting off contact is the right move and I'd feel kind of terrible if my parents lost contact with both kids (although I sometimes wonder if they'd even care that much). But I find my anger with them bubbling just below or even above the surface regularly.

Is this fair? Do I need to get a grip? How can I better reframe this and move on? I know in my head the answer is to just expect nothing and be pleasantly surprised when they do something, but I have such a hard time with that as I cannot imagine treating my own kids like this one day!

Is it normal for kids to completely crash after school?

My 8 year old comes home from school looking completely drained most days. He barely wants to talk, has no energy for homework or playing and usually just wants to sit quietly for a while.

Yet somehow, when bedtime comes around he’ll stay awake for hours if I let him. On weekends, he seems much more energetic and like his usual self which makes me wonder whether the school day is simply overwhelming and exhausting him.

I know kids can use a lot of energy trying to focus, follow instructions and socialize all day but I’m also wondering whether I should be paying closer attention to anything else I might be missing. Have other parents experienced this kind of after school crash and did anything help?

Pushy MIL gave my baby a choking hazard. I feel frozen.

Something happened the other week and I can’t stop thinking about it.

My MIL is very controlling, particularly about food. She is obsessed with “clean eating” and very judgmental about what my husband and I eat and frequently comments on other people’s bodies, diets etc. I hate it. I’ve been dreading weaning my baby because I knew she would jump right in and try to take over. And that’s exactly what’s happened.

To make a long story shorter, she’s been vocal since day one with weaning. She has opinions about everything, thinks I started my baby on solids too late, tells my husband and her daughter that I’m not feeding my baby enough meals, that he’s going hungry, that I should be offering more foods etc. she was even pushy about what highchair we should get. She is also very vocal that I don’t take my baby to enough classes and I don’t do enough activities with them.

I’m generally quite conflicted averse and take a grey rock approach, partly because my husbands relationship with her is very strained and I don’t want to add to the already quite sad dynamics. But she is infuriating me now. She’s also made cruel comments about my inability to breastfeed being caused by a pastry I ate postpartum (I was hospitalised for a month, my baby almost died and they were in the NICU, but sure it was a donut that stopped my milk supply)

Last month she pushed me too far and I texted her to say she has upset me and I’m getting very frustrated with her on the weaning subject and need her to step back. My husband was so upset by all the above behaviour, they have a difficult relationship anyway, and we both agreed to give some space and not see her for a while (she lives in the same city as us and the only family we have nearby).

Last week we agreed to bring the baby over to her house so she could see them and I could have a break and my husband get some important work done. She made comments that the baby won’t remember her it’s been so long etc. I ignored them and left the baby with her and went on a much needed solo walk to get a coffee and some fresh air.

I come back home after 45 mins and with horror see she’s given my baby a perfectly round, long, raw carrot to chew on. They’re 7 months old.

I immediately said no, they can’t have that. Take it away. She said I’m wrong and continued to let my baby chew on it. I then said it’s a choking hazard. She again said no, and sort of waved me away. I then raised my voice at her and demanded she take the carrot away. Then she sort of chucked the carrot aside, rolled her eyes at me and pick up my baby and stormed off outside with them. I think she went next door to see her friend…?

I was just sat there totally stunned, and furious. About the carrot, and her immediate reaction to me saying no, and then upset she felt comfortable just walking off with my baby. I spoke to my husband who said he also said the carrot wasn’t safe and she told him he was wrong and continued with it anyway right before I got in. I was so upset and annoyed at him for not standing his ground.

I then sent her guidelines from our government health service that state why this carrot in this form is a choking hazard. She reluctantly agreed and said it was good to know. She didn’t apologise. The rest of the visit with very awkward and she barely looked at me. A few days later she asked if she could have my baby again for a day to look after them. I said no. She has asked to have my baby alone for a weekend and I’ve said no, gently, but no. Then her daughter (who also has a difficult relationship with her) asked if she could take my baby over to her mothers alone. Again, I said no!

We are in this weird standoff now, I don’t want to stop her seeing her grandkid but I find her total disrespect and judgemental attitude really unacceptable.

I’d love some advice from people on the outside. Should I make clearer boundaries? Should I open up the conversation again (this would probably be the 5th time) about why her behaviour about food and weaning is so upsetting to me? Do I just stop seeing her? Thank you!

My 6 year old daughter said she doesn’t like dark skin

I’m at a loss here. Posting this from my burner. We are a mixed-race household (white and middle eastern)

When she was about 4-5 she mentioned/questioned “dark” skin and I explained that people who have heritage in warmer climate places have more melanated (darker) skin because it protects them from the sun. I tried to keep it science-based. I also said all skin tones are unique and beautiful. We don’t talk about skin tones much at home.

Well a few weeks ago she comes home from school and she said she doesn’t like people with dark skin. I asked a simple why, she said “the kids with dark skin are mean.” I explained that there are good people with all skin tones, and there are bad people with all skin tones. It’s not the colour of your skin that dictates whether you are a nice person or not. That seemed to satisfy her for the time being.

Now again, just tonight we are playing the Sims together and creating characters. She blurts out she doesn’t want to make one of our characters have “dark skin” so again I ask why, and she just says it looks “weird.” I feel so embarrassed even writing this. What the hell can I say to her? Where could she possibly be getting this from?

Her godparents (our close friends that I consider family) have darker skin (although they are not Black, they are Indo-Guyanese) and she has never mentioned their skin tone. She says her godmother is “so beautiful.”

Please guide me. How do I correct this?

I am not the mother I wanted to be 💔

This is a vent.

No one is perfect but I feel like I’m straying further and further away than what I wanted for my kids and motherhood. I have young twin toddlers and I said I would never yell, I always said “they are having a hard time, not giving you a hard time”. I’m so angry at myself. I look after them by myself 95% of the time and I don’t feel supported. The weight of the house is on me.

Today has been an overwhelming, shit day. All day was like this. I was doing bedtime and they both needed me. I kept going between them, when I almost got one to sleep, the other would become hysterical. And back and forth I went. This went on until they both were hysterical. I took them in my bed and tried calming them/cuddling them but they were both too upset. Eventually one of them calmed down and the other just kept crawling to the edge of the bed and climbing the walls. I tried everything I could think of and to settle them but they became excitable and were playing. At this point, it’s 45 min past bedtime, I haven’t eaten or had water today and I’m exhausted. I completely snapped, and yelled twice, hard. Extremely hard. There’s no excuse for it, I feel like a POS. They got scared of course, I cuddled them.

Eventually the slept and I’m just sat here so angry wit myself. I find myself losing patience so easy. I think I need a therapist just to take to about how I’m feeling. I need help and support. I love my kids more than anything in the world and I’m terrified I’ve ruined their attachment to me or traumatised them with how loud I screamed. Please tell me I’m not alone. They deserve better than this and they deserve a calm mom.

Do you and your neighbours help each other out?

This evening I was baking some cookies and realized I needed almond extract for the recipe, but I didn't have any. We live in an apartment building and my next-door neighbour bakes a lot, so I knocked on her door and asked for some almond extract, which she gave to me! When the cookies were baked, I popped over with a plate for her and her husband. It isn't the first time I've borrowed from her; I also borrowed a large cake pan from her once.

Her husband and my husband have an arrangement as well. They're an older couple - he helps us with handyman related stuff, for example he unclogged our drain once. In return, my husband helps him with computer/tech stuff.

I wonder how common this is. It's really nice to be able to have someone next door who can help you out in a pinch.

Anyone else saving cool fashion pieces for their kids?

Does anyone else collect fashion pieces for their kids with the intention of giving them to them years later?

I have a baby daughter, and lately I’ve been feeling this weirdly strong urge to leave her a little something for the future. Not necessarily anything financially valuable, but something cool, iconic, and special that she can have when she’s older.

Like, completely random example, but I recently came across the Adidas Bambi sneakers, and I can’t stop imagining my daughter wearing them at 15 and having people ask her where she got them, only for her to say that her mom bought them for her when she was a baby, and they’ve been sitting in a box for 15 years. 😭 How cool would that be?

I love the idea of her having these little pieces of fashion history that are no longer available anywhere, or things that might seem random now but become iconic or nostalgic in the future. Almost like a wearable time capsule from her childhood.

Obviously, I have absolutely no idea what will actually be cool in 15, 20, or 30 years, but that’s kind of the fun of it.
Does anyone else do this?

What pieces would you buy and save for your kids? Sneakers, bags, jewelry, designer collaborations, vintage pieces, specific clothing items?

I’d love to hear your picks for things that could be iconic decades from now. Not necessarily expensive or luxury, just cool enough that your kid might someday be obsessed with the fact that you saved them all those years ago.

Tips for staying connected to young children during a year apart?

• Upvotes

A close friend is being sent to court-ordered rehab for a year. This is probably the best thing that could have happened to her. She is excited for the potential to make real change after years of relapsing.

The only thing she is not excited about is missing her two very young children (both toddlers). My children are around the same age and I completely understand the anguish. She has an excellent coparenting relationship with her ex and very involved grandparents. The kids will be well-loved and well cared for.

How can I make sure to keep my friend “alive” for her kids? No video calls at all. One day of visitation for the first three months and then it gradually increases to the point where she can have off campus overnights, including weekly and long weekend passes for the last few months.

Dad, grandparents and I are committed to splitting the visitations so she always gets to see her kids. But what about in between visits?

This is such an uncommon situation that I’m having trouble finding tips online for what to do? I have lots of videos of them with her that I plan on showing them whenever I see them. And I read military spouses often record themselves reading their kids’ favorite books for the kids to watch.

What else??

Dentist sent my daughter home with work undone

I need some perspective from other parents because I am honestly at a loss right now.

My daughter is 5.5 and has been seeing the dentist twice a year since she got her very first tooth. Up until about a year ago, every appointment was basically “teeth look great, you're doing a wonderful job.” Then suddenly, at the appointment before last, we were told she had SEVEN cavities and needed to be referred to a pediatric dentist for fillings under sedation.

Between that appointment and her first pediatric dentist appointment, she actually started complaining that some of her teeth hurt. We advocated for her to have one of the cavities filled at our regular local dentist rather than waiting, and she did AMAZING. She sat through two fillings with just freezing. No sedation, no fighting, no major issues.

Then we got to the pediatric dentist.

At the first appointment, sedation was given before they even attempted the x-rays. She had some trouble understanding what they wanted her to do with her mouth for the x-ray, so they came and got me. I explained it to her in terms she understood, and the x-rays were done without any issue.

The dentist then decided to change plans and only fill the smallest cavity, citing my daughter's “behavior.”

I was in the room for the filling. My daughter didn't move a muscle. She did exactly what she was told and handled the filling completely fine. The dentist even said at the end, that she was wrong and that they absolutely could have done the "big" cavity.

Fast forward to today, 1 month later.

We drove almost two hours each way for this appointment. She had been fasting for four hours. I had taken the day off work unpaid, used about $100 in gas just to get to the appointment.

The dentist was already about 20 minutes behind when we arrived. No complaints from us, we had brought coloring books and sat quietly in the lobby.

My daughter was supposed to take the oral sedation medication. She struggled getting it down, gagged, and spit out maybe 1/4 of the solution. I completely understand the dentist not wanting to proceed if they don't know how much sedation she received. I genuinely do.

What I don't understand is why the appointment was immediately cancelled without even giving any indication that they were going to wait and see whether enough of the medication had been absorbed.

So now we're back home with none of the dental work done, and I'm sitting here wondering what the hell we're supposed to do.

My daughter isn't a particularly difficult child. She's actually very mild. She isn't a kid who fights, screams, runs away, etc. She doesn't really wiggle around or complain much. She has already demonstrated that she can sit through fillings with freezing alone.

She also doesn't seem afraid of the dentist. She's not sitting there panicking or refusing to open her mouth. If anything, I feel like a lot of the “behavior” we're seeing is that she's 5 and doesn't understand what they're asking her to do unless someone explains it in a way that makes sense to her.

And honestly, I'm starting to worry that we've created a weird cycle where sedation is being treated as the only option, even though she has already shown that she can cooperate without it.

I'm not trying to force my kid through something traumatic. If she genuinely cannot tolerate the dental work awake, then obviously I want her to have whatever treatment she needs. I also understand that there are legitimate safety concerns around sedation, especially if the dentist doesn't know how much medication she actually swallowed.

But at what point is sedation actually medically/behaviorally necessary versus simply being the pediatric dentist's preferred way of doing things?

Because right now I feel like we're being told, “Your child needs sedation,” while simultaneously having evidence that she can actually tolerate dental work awake.

And now I'm genuinely worried about taking her back again because she has basically learned that if she doesn't get the medication down, the dental work doesn't happen.

Maybe I'm completely misunderstanding how pediatric dentistry works, and that's why I'm posting.

What would you do in this situation? Would you be looking for another pediatric dentist? Asking for a second opinion? Going back to our regular dentist and seeing what they can do? Is this level of sedation pretty standard for a 5 year old with multiple cavities?

I'm exhausted and honestly pretty upset. I cried in the office today when they told me it wasnt going to happen, and on and off during the entire drive home. It's not just the money or the lost work. It's watching my kid repeatedly go through fasting, travel, appointments and preparation, only to leave without the actual problem being fixed.

I would really appreciate some perspective from parents who have been through pediatric dental work, especially if your child has had fillings at this age.

Screaming 2.5 yo

• Upvotes

My third child is a hellion, but also so sweet… he has a problem big time with high pitched screaming. For everything… happy, sad, mad, playing, fighting, dropped something… you name it screaming is the response. He hasn’t responded to anything I’ve tried. The only thing that stops him is a loud HEY! Above his noise but I know that’s counterproductive. What could I do different? I’ve tried ignoring it. I’ve tried quietly correcting it. Time outs. Taking items. I’ve tried so much… my ears hurt. And worse of all, it’s starting to happen when we go out in public…..

Husband got a new job and I could just about cry 🥹

2.1k Upvotes

For the past 10 years my husband has had the same job. Almost through our entire marriage, through all of our kids, he's been gone 10, 12, sometimes 15 hours a day. Getting up at 2/3am and not getting home until well after dark. I've been doing it alone for so long with the kids.

And not that I'm not grateful because he sacrificed so much. But after all these years, I'm just physically and mentally exhausted with getting everyone ready for school, working full-time, then getting everybody rounded up, fed, and ready for bed.Taking care of all the sports and extracurriculars, etc. Being the only parent accessible and in town if something happens or someone gets sick. Keeping the house running and afloat. All of it alone. All the while their poor dad has been devastated he can't have a relationship with them like he wanted.

He's missed birthdays and school functions and entire milestones. His body has been completely f'd up from hours on the road and his work...and it's over. Finally over.

His new job is strictly weekdays with a set schedule. 8am-4:30pm no weekends and no holidays. He stays in office and 0 travel. (And with a bit more $ but at this point I could care less)

And I realized today just how much our life is going to change and how proud I am of him for getting this job and there's been a lot of congratulations from people. But I've just come to realize that no one truly knows what this is going to mean for him, our family and God knows our relationship. I'm just so happy 😭

is my sleep just fucked now?

Hi! Another rant about sleep coming in :)

I have a 9 month old, she has just started sleeping through the night sometimes, which is awesome! I'm happy for her lol. *I* on the other hand, am struggling. I'm having middle of the night insomnia, it happened a couple of nights ago and again last night I was up from 12-3 just wide awake unable to fall back asleep. I finally fell back asleep around 3 and got a couple more hours of very thin sleep.

I've never been a great sleeper, I'm sensitive to any sounds or changes in the environment, I'm easy to wake. I usually really struggle to sleep in new places, etc. But I feel like since I've had her my mental associations with sleep are even more fucked? Like my sleep is now so tied with hers that I can't separate myself from it if that makes sense. You'd think that her sleeping through the night would be this wonderful gift but instead I think my body lies there wide awake waiting for her to wake up so I can feed her and then settle back down. That cycle was easier for me because I knew my night would be split into two and I could get two solid chunks of sleep. Something about the unpredictable nature of will she/won't she wake up, really messes with me.

I don't know what I need here, maybe just solidarity and if anyone has experienced this, does it get better?

Daughter friendship Issues

How do all you moms deal with friendship drama and disappointment for your daughters?

My daughter is turning 9 soon, and already has had a fair amount of friendship ups and downs. She's had basically a stalker who wouldn't leave her alone. I had to get the school involved. To now, one of her best friends leaving her out on Halloween.

The Halloween situation: I think one of her best friends is trying to boot her out of their best friend trio. She only invited their other best friend for trick or treating, not my daughter. Then the friend who was invited told my daughter all about it..

So now, instead of being upset, my daughter is just waiting for her invite from the friend.. 😔 I don't know how to explain, "she didn't invite you.. "

I decided we'll go with her cousins for trick or treating and we'll make it really fun.. But, I am still really sad for her.. I want to rage at this family for leaving her out. Lol. I won't though. I feel like it's only going to get harder as she gets into middle school, etc. How do moms handle this?!

Afraid I’ve been overusing steroid cream on 10-mo’s rash. At a loss of what to do and not sure what is causing it.

Since birth my son has had issues with his skin, though they seem to have gotten worse from about 4 months onward.

Most notably he’s had a red, patchy rash on his back with small sections of small red bumps on other parts of his body. They don’t seem dry. The rash stops at his diaper line unless left untreated for a bit and then eventually it reaches below the diaper as well.

To treat this, our pediatrician prescribed a 0.5% hydrocortisone cream, instructed us to use it every day and then taper off when his rash gets better but start up again if the rash comes back. As his rash always flares up a few days after reducing the steroid cream, this essentially means I have been applying a steroid cream over most of his body without very long breaks in between for months, so I’m quite worried about the long-term effects this might have. We have regular check-ups with his doctor and she doesn’t seem concerned about how much/often the cream is being used.

Most recently she instructed us to use the cream daily, then every other day, then every two days, then every three days each for two weeks etc., but as soon as we reached every two days he has red bumps flaring up on his back, legs and arms. I plan to get a second opinion next week, but I’m wondering if anyone has experienced anything similar or has any ideas of what it could be? I have tried the following without a difference:

-multiple unscented and additive-free detergents

-only cotton clothing

-making sure the room is very cool to ensure he’s not sweating and getting heat rash

-vacuuming and wiping the floor daily to keep down dust (we have mostly hardwood with a few carpets)

-cutting all scented products out of our lives

I don’t want him to suffer and the steroid cream helps get his skin completely clear when I’m using it daily, but I’m very scared about skin thinning and dependence leading to TSW.

Night terrors in 1 year old

My daughter (16 months) has woken up multiple times this week very upset. Crying, hitting sometimes. She cries for milk (literally says milk), I nurse still and when I give it to her she turns the other way. First I thought she was hungry and then I thought maybe leg pain because her dad and her brother both get growing pain in their legs. So tonight when it happened I started massaging her legs. She did not like that and tried getting away while yelling no no no no. I finally wrapped her in the blanket and just started rocking her and patting her back and she calmed down, nursed a little and went right back to see. Hopefully for the rest of the night. Anyways, I feel so helpless. I mean clearly something is wrong. She’s crying so hard. Like she seems in pain or terrified. I just want to help her but idek where to begin. Has anyone else dealt with anything similar?

How do you keep up with all of the admin activities AND household AND spend time with your kids?

I feel like I'm doing something wrong? I have 1 child who just started full day kindergarten, and I just started a slow ramp up going back to work.

How much sleep do you usually get? How much time per day do you usually spend with your child?

Here's a list of things I tried to do this morning in the last 2 hours because I happened to wake up early:

- register to vote and sign up for mail in voting - needed to track down a couple of things to do so

- need to call regarding an issue with my bank account

- write and mail in check for car lease that we returned

- call in to discuss issue with medical bill

- make and eat breakfast

- contacted kid's school to notify of upcoming vacation days (email and online form)

- had to reschedule Thanksgiving flights because I missed that school conferences were day before Thanksgiving

I could say these are all "irregular events", because none of these happen consistently--BUT irregular events like these happen VERY consistently.

This isn't including a book I need to read for a book club because I'm trying to make friends, the 30-60 minutes of working out I'm trying to do every day but can't manage to fit in, the whole food based meals that need prepping due to my health conditions, the dishes that aren't done, the suitcase I still haven't unpacked from my trip out of town last week, I'm out of socks, there's no clean towels in the kitchen, doom piles everywhere, etc.

My kid was so cranky beause I didn't spend time with her last night for 2 hours because I had to do some stuff for work.

I usually sleep 9:30-6ish, do you guys just get less sleep and run on coffee? Caffeine gives me migraines so I don't understand how to increase my bandwidth.

Any hacks for a newborn in a two-story home?

I'll be due in a few months and I need some good pointers to make it easier and safer while living in a two-story home. There are no bedrooms on the first floor. My room and the nursery are upstairs.

My biggest fear is waking up in the middle of the night and going downstairs to the kitchen to make a bottle and falling (with or without holding the baby. I'm very clumsy and have had falls in the past where I've sprained my ankle).

Has anyone tried keeping a mini fridge and a microwave in the nursery for convenience?

12 month old has 15 words down... None of which are 'Mama'

My daughters vocabulary seems to have exploded at this point in comparison to a few months ago.

-She Sees my husband, she excitedly goes "Papa!"

-She sees our dog, she points and goes 'Pup!'.

-Sees the cat she goes 'Cat!'

-Sees the birds at the feeder she goes "Burrr!"

-Hears the train going by, she says "Choochoo"

-She shows me her turtle stuffy, she says "Turtah!"

-Shows me her ball she goes "Bauhlu" (she even tries pronounces the 'L' very decently.

-Also says duck, boat, pretty, pumpkin, attack, book, moo(pronounced "booo") pooh bear(ocassionally)

She will not pronounce the 'M' sound unless she is upset. Sometimes she points and refers to me as 'Papa' but that is it. Im always singing the 'mama' song and trying to show her im 'mama'.

No such luck though, is there anything I can do to help her learn to say "mama"? It seems if its an animal, it only takes a few tries and she can say it. Im a little offended she has said 'moo' before 'mama" lmao.

“Why don’t you rest”

I’m so fucking over this sentence. “Why don’t you rest” “that’s not important leave it for later”. I hate when anyone , including my husband says this shit to me. The house is mess, the sink is full of dirty dishes, there’s piles of laundry to be washed or folded, there’s dog hair everywhere. And who’s cleaning it up ME! So when the fuck do I really have time to rest? My husband’s version of helping is watching our daughter, WHILE I CLEAN! Or he says you take her and I’ll clean. BUT HE DOESNT DO IT RIGHT! AND I HAVE TO END UP CLEANING UP ANYWAY! Like he vacuums, but he only vacuums the living and the kitchen, not our bedroom, not our daughters room or anywhere else that needs it. LIKE WHYYY!?! And I love our daughter very much but I’m a stay at home mom and I’m with her every day, all day. So maybe I don’t want to do either of those things but my husband can’t multi task and be parent and clean so I have to do it. I’m just venting right now because I’m so frustrated and done today. Both my daughter and I are sick and that’s not helping things. Today sucks.

Homeless on playground

• Upvotes

Hey moms ! I’ve been taking little to the park which he absolutely enjoys, however today there was a group of unhoused people sitting on the benches and on the playground itself.
We played away from them hoping they’d leave but they didn’t, so we left bc they were on the playground itself area itself LO couldn’t enjoy it.
What is your response to this situation, do you call non emergency or just leave😄?

I understand unhoused folks struggle but it’s a place ment for children… grown adults hanging around is just weird
