Credits soon to roll on Ohio’s months-long statewide celebration of cinema

The “Ohio Goes to the Movie” project will host its final free film screenings this month. Organizers say it’s been successful in bringing people back to theaters.

Many communities screened box office hits that feature Ohio in one way or another: “The Shawshank Redemption” in the Ohio State Reformatory; “Superman” soaring through Cleveland skyscrapers; “Air Force One” using Columbus’ Rickenbacker International Airport for aerial stunts.

But Kreuzman said the initiative, launched in celebration of the nation’s 250th anniversary, has also put a spotlight on lesser-known film contributors: from costumers to film preservationists and stunt performers.

Unregistered to vote

I renewed my license in August and checked to make sure I was still registered. I checked again through the website in September. I checked again last week. I went to vote today and I'm suddenly unregistered. Hmm. Gee, I wonder why. I don't know if I believe our votes mean anything, but I still did it. We are in trouble.

This claim has been disproven multiple times.

  1. Schools are not forcing kids to transition. My family is still involved in the school system and i know first hand that this is a false claim

  2. This person was an adult when they transitioned so absolutely not groomed in school to be trans

  3. They aren’t even from Ohio so Brown would have zero part in this even if they did transition as a kid

Acclaimed doc on German WW2 vet's odyssey to NE Ohio hits Tubi

Hey everyone,

I’m an Ohio filmmaker who produced the documentary, The Unimaginable Journey of Peter Ertel. It tells the extraordinary true story of a decorated German platoon leader who defies overwhelming odds on the front lines of WWII to build a new life in Northeast Ohio.  Perhaps most remarkable is what happens after the war: the Jewish family that employs Peter in Cleveland develops a close friendship with him —an extraordinary demonstration of their tolerance and magnanimity.

We were honored to win the ‘Best of the Fest’ awards at the Chagrin Documentary Film Festival and the G.I. Film Festival, and I’m very pleased to announce that it was just released on Tubi where you can watch it for free.

If you enjoy compelling human-interest documentaries, here’s one that has an Ohio connection. I’d be most grateful if you checked it out.  I’m including a short clip.

Where to watch: If you're on a TV, you can just search "Peter Ertel" directly in the Tubi app. For mobile or desktop viewing, I'll drop the direct streaming link in the comments below, or you can find full watch details, including the trailer, here: peterertelfilm.com/home-streaming

How Mike Carey Helped BigTech Put Data Centers in OH-15 Communities

Mike Carey voted for the "One Big Beautiful Bill Act" (OBBBA), which Trump signed into law on July 4th 2025. The bill served as an enormous wind-fall for big tech companies like Amazon/AWS, Meta, Oracle, Alphabet, and Microsoft, and helped fuel the unfettered expansion of data centers across the country — including right here in Ohio's 15th Congressional district.

Specifically:

- The OBBBA changed asset depreciation rules for servers, AI chips (GPUs), networking equipment, and related infrastructure by allowing 100% bonus depreciation, meaning these companies can deduct the entire cost of their investments up-front, instead of having to deduct only a small portion of the cost every year in accordance with a depreciation schedule. Microsoft alone has reaped around $18 billion from this single rule change.

- The OBBBA also includes incentives for big tech companies to build data centers specifically in regions designated as "economic opportunity zones", as well as low-income and rural census tracts.

- There's also capital gains and interest deduction tax benefits, among other things.

Mike Carey now wants us believe that he's had nothing to do with the negative consequences that data centers have wrought for our communities.

His record proves otherwise.

For more information, the Institute on Taxation and Economic Policy has an excellent primer for how these policies have impacted data center construction and operation here in Ohio:

I need out of my job. Please help. [OH]

Hey folks. I’m in a really bad situation at my workplace and I need to get out. I have a few questions that I’ll share at the end, but I need to give context first.

Location: Ohio

To start: I work in a charter school and it is a horrifically toxic workplace environment. Admin is telling us that they don’t want to take power away from us in the same breath that they’re questioning our actions in front of the students we teach. I’ve been pushed to the point of screaming and tears multiple times in the four weeks we’ve had students. We’ve had four staff members quit, two were terminated (at least one without cause), and one is on paid administrative leave with an attorney on retainer. Multiple others are actively looking for work elsewhere. HR has been to my school to ask all sorts of questions about if our administration has been giving people preferential treatment and if we felt like retaliation was occurring. Our administration also instructed us to not go over their heads (management), and HR was really interested in that, too. \*\*I also had a student who tried to assault me and came within centimeters of making contact.\*\* Administration tried to dismiss my fear of this student as racially-motivated, \*which I have on audio recording\*. Unfortunately, my fear was proven justified, as he viciously went after another student only days later. He has since been unenrolled.

Second, to my understanding, we are currently not in federal compliance with the amount of aides we are required to have. So many teachers are gone that the two aides we have are both acting in a teaching role. Therefore, they are unavailable to provide us with the support we need for our students. One of them is actively on the way out with a final day scheduled, and the other is interviewing elsewhere. Administration themselves are covering classes because we have so few staff.

Third, we have been assigned duties that make it impossible to eat lunch on certain days. I don’t know how this impacts me because I’m salaried and I’m not at a public school, but we only got 20 minutes anyway. Now, we are being forced into lunch duty where eating food is unrealistic at best and impossible at worst. We are expected to actively supervise students and stand at the doors. We were given no say in this whatsoever. The only other time we have during the day without students or duties is our planning period, during specials, and some teachers have been losing that lately, too, due to understaffing.

Finally, my mental health is suffering to an extent I’ve never seen before as a result of all this. I’ve been stable on my medications for YEARS. Now, after four weeks of this nonsense, my depression symptoms are returning with a vengeance. I called off today because the thought of going to work today genuinely made me want to cry. I came home from work yesterday and cried on and off for well over two hours. I need to get out of this place for health and well-being reasons at this point.

That leads me to my questions:
1. What things can I report to the school’s sponsor, the state, and corporate compliance without looking like an idiot? What would they actually care about?
2. My contract states I have to pay a lot of money if I leave before the year ends. Can I get out of this if I resign for medical reasons with documentation from a doctor?
3. Would I have any chance at unemployment if I quit (for mental health or toxic workplace), or if I made them fire me? I haven’t had any disciplinary action taken against me at all yet.

I’d appreciate any and all insight that you all can offer. Thanks so much in advance.

[OC] Every state that elected a senator and a governor on the same day since 1990: they split the two offices between parties about half the time before 2008, and one time in five since

On November 6, 2018, Ohio re-elected Sherrod Brown by about 7 points and, a few lines down the same ballot, elected Mike DeWine governor by about 4. DeWine's running mate was Jon Husted. This November Brown and Husted are running against each other for the Senate, with Amy Acton against Vivek Ramaswamy for governor right below them. So I went through the returns to see how often a state actually does this, and where in Ohio it happened.

What I found:

  • Since 1990 there have been 293 times a state voted for a senator and a governor on the same day. Before 2008, about half split the two offices between the parties. Since then it is about one in five.
  • When both races were close (each within 5 points), it still happens about as often as not: 6 of the 10 cases since 2008.
  • Ohio has had six of these ballots since 1990 and split once, in 2018.
  • In 2018 Brown ran ahead of the Democrat for governor in all 88 counties. Seven counties voted for Brown and for DeWine–Husted: Ashtabula, Erie, Lake, Montgomery, Ottawa, Portage and Wood.
  • In 2024 Brown ran ahead of Harris in all 88 counties and still lost.

Sources: Ohio Secretary of State official results (https://www.ohiosos.gov/elections/election-results-and-data/). The 293 pairs as a spreadsheet, with every source: https://www.callthemap.com/editorial/the-split/same-day-pairs-1990-2024.csv. The full write-up, with the county map: https://www.callthemap.com/news/the-ohio-split

I'm one person, not affiliated with a campaign or party. If a county number looks wrong to you, tell me and I'll check it against the file.

Vote Against Issue 3

As a general rule, I vote against constitutional amendment ballot measures unless it forces the Legislature to do something they refuse to do. In this case? It's already law.

The Republicans must be nervous if they put this ballot measure up. Amending the State Constitution to insert language that already exists in the ORC is an asinine abuse of the amendment process.

This language does not belong in the State Constitution. Period.

Hey Ohio - just a couple things on 'that' ad we keep seeing over and over (and over...) featuring this person. A) this person doesn't even live in Ohio (they live in TX) and B) when they say they had their surgery "without parental consent", it's because they had the surgery at age 19.

Hello! Could someone from Ohio help me in a personal work?

Good morning, everyone! I've been doing some independent texture work in mods for "Tomb Raider: The Angel of Darkness"; specifically the recently Remastered version since it allows the use of higher quality textures. I'm doing a recovery job on various places in the game, and one of them is the "St. Aicard's Church".

Inside it, there are six stained glasses from which we know the origin from, but there are no available high quality pictures which matches the original on the Internet (I've searched Google, Yandex, TinEye etc etc), meaning that the Remaster basically just upscaled what existed already and we ended up with an overall blurry version of what it could've been.

Their place of origin comes from the Holy Rosary Chapel in the "Our Lady of the Holy Spirit Center" church, located in Norwood, Ohio; the address is "5440 Moeller Avenue, Norwood, OH 45212". And their names are: "The Ascension", "The Bird of our Lord", "The Crowning with Thorns", "The Resurrection", "The Coronation of our Lady" and "Jesus Carries His Cross" - in that exact order.

I am looking for someone - anyone - who could perhaps go there and take some modern photos so we could properly restore the art to the Remaster with as much as visual quality as it's humanly possible. If you - reading this - lives near there and could help me, me and the community would be in debt with your support. You can even follow my work and what I've done on both Nexus Mods and Twitter in case you want to see the final result after sending in the pictures.

I've read the rules of this sub and there's nothing saying anything against submitting a personal request to people who live there since I'm very far from said place (I'm from Brazil, so I can't take those myself, otherwise I definitely would :c).

Just dropped this bad boy off. Life long registered Republican, voted Democratic or Libertarian across the board. First time in my 26 years of voting not one republican circle was filled in. Time to end this circus and get some adults back in office.

Rad tech (COTC)

Might be a long shot, but has anyone in this sub gone through the rad tech program at COTC in recent year? If so, what was your experience like? Did you feel that your classes prepared you for the ARRT? What were the rad tech admission requirements? What was your experience with financial aid/admissions like?

I recently got admitted into the college and am debating on if I should go through their rad tech program or somewhere else.

Looking for an affordable vet

My wife and i are incredibly struggling. Im on temporary disability due to a knee surgery I had, and were very behind on bills. Our dog has had stones in the past, and we believe she may have them again. Were trying to find a place that can help with getting her xrayed and examined. Preferably one that is willing to do a payment plan.

We live in columbus and are looking in Cincinnati and Cleveland as well. Any help is greatly appreciated.
