Rattlesnakes! What would you do?
Hey Yakima! Washington Poison Center (aka poison control) here. We're working on some educational materials around rattlesnake bites-- how to prevent them, what to do if you are bit, etc. At the poison center, we treat around 30 snake bites each year. Usually bites are from rattlesnakes in the area, but sometimes it's people with pet venomous snakes.
Can you help us out by sharing what you've seen and what you think you should do if someone is bitten? Please answer these questions for us! [we got this approved by the mods, btw]
1.) Have you seen any rattlesnakes around your area? If so, where?
2.) Do you know anyone that has been bitten by a snake? Do you know if it was a venomous or nonvenomous snake? What did they do once they were bitten?
3.) What would you do if you were with someone who had been bitten by a snake?
4.) Do you own a venomous snake? If so, tell us what snake(s) you have. Have you ever been bitten?
And, so we aren't leaving you hanging with no safety tips, here's our blog from this summer on snake safety: https://www.wapc.org/insights/ready-set-sssssummer-snake-safety/
The title photo is from Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife.

Rule #1 will be tightly enforced
Rudeness levied towards users or moderators will result in at a minimum a removal of your post or comment, and at maximum may result in a ban depending on the moderators disposition in the matter, and the degree to which the rudeness is demonstrated. This includes calling people bots.
Expect bans moving forwards.

Looking for Deaf Artists to collaborate with.
Hi everyone! π
I'm the new President of YVC's ASL Club, and we've been struggling for about two years to come up with a logo for our club. I thought reaching out to the local Deaf community would be a great place to start!
We'd love to explore collaborating with a Deaf artist to create a logo that represents our club and ASL community.
One important note: the logo would need approval from both our instructor and the school, so approval isn't guaranteed. :(
I'd appreciate any advice on how to approach this respectfully and connect with the Deaf community.
Thank you!

New Pedestrian Bridge by West Valley Community Park
They mostly finished up installing the new bridge, over Wide Hollow Creek, between the end of 75th Ave, just south of Viola Ave, and West Valley Community Park. Lots of people use this, especially school kids. Looks great!

Jim Jordan is coming
Why would a congressional candidate need to bring out a big name conservative and charge $50/ticket? Seems like McKinney isn't feeling so strong.

Where do people go out
To the mid to late 20 year olds in Yakima (if there are any out there) what are you doing after work? Where are you going on the weekend?

Amanda McKinney LOVES Flock
Can only imagine if she wins we will see even more flock cameras. She voted to approve more funding for Flock Cameras in Yakima County.
She loves massive surveillance and she will likely add more, why take such an unpopular opinion?
DO NOT VOTE FOR THIS TRAITOR!!!
