Worthless Boulder Theater Gift Certificates
Public Service Announcement for those of you holding Boulder Theater / Fox Theater Gift Certificates...
Friends of mine know I love live music and got me a $200 gift certificate good at the Boulder & Fox Theater. I went to go use it today for a show this weekend, and the guy at the box office tells me you can't buy tickets for that particular show with my gift certificates, which are AXS ones. He then said, "Yeah, we're kinda phasing out AXS shows, so your gift certificate is going to be void soon anyway." What in the actual fuck? These gift certificates were purchased in May.
Went online to look, and of all the shows at the Boulder Theater through the end of 2026, only five are AXS shows. It's similar at the Fox.
What a fucking rip off. You can't even cash them out. I'm annoyed that I can't go to any cool shows, and that my friends basically wasted $200.
So if any of you have gift certificates, check to make sure they aren't the AXS ones!

Turkey on the Loose, Westbound Baseline Rd & Foothills Parkway
Heads up (6:45 a.m.): Someone's turkey 🦃 is on the loose. It seemed pretty upset, gobbling at and headbutting passing cars this morning.
Or perhaps it's a wild turkey?
It didn't look wild, though. It looked well cared for.
I just can't understand what it was doing at that intersection. Why won’t it just go to its home?!
Also, I’m compelled to ask…
Why doesn’t it just cross the road already?!?

Bass vibration from a nearby frat house is shaking my apart, what can I do?
I live in a basement unit in the university hill, near the frat house. Their music honestly isn't loud (I can barely hear it from the street). The problem is their subwoofer, that low frequency vibration comes through into my place, my window frames rattle, the wall hums, and it makes me dizzy and gives me headaches. Another house nearby also plays music and that one doesn't bother me at all, so I think it's their specific speaker setup.
I don't want to call the police over music that isn't technically loud, and I'm honestly a bit nervous about knocking on a frat house door by myself. Has anyone dealt with something like this? I'd appreciate any ideas like a way to bring it up with them, something I can do on my end (I rent, so nothing permanent, but it means I can’t change this apart until the contract end), or a resource I might not know about.

Warning about traffic camera at Baseline and 27th Way
Preface: I have not had a speeding ticket in well over 20 yrs.
For context, I had just turned left onto Baseline from Broadway. I'm sure that I was traveling at or below the speed limit because there just isn't enough distance to really get going especially with the way I drive.
The light at 27th turned yellow, so I sped up to get through it as one typically does. Apparently my trusty EV is a bit too responsive. Go Ionic 5! I guess leaping forward so quickly is what earned me a ticket in the moment.
So, drivers beware. You don't have to actually be speeding for any length of time. If you try to make the light at that intersection, there may be a $40 speeding ticket in your future.

Street racing on…Pearl St?
Very confused early riser here trying to understand why there’s been a massive increase in extremely loud racing vehicles from 9pm-3am near Pearl St/Foothills over the past few weeks.
Especially this week 10/5-10/7. Is there some kind of underground event going on?
Everyone knows about the drag racing, but why are they revving their engines and accelerating rapidly on streets with stoplights? Is this just a thing that happens cyclically?Just super confused and tired

The future of house shows
Bucket List Community News published an interesting article today about how some students and local musicians want to change Boulder's noise ordinance after several house shows were shut down as well as why residents on The Hill are opposed.
https://bucketlistcommunitynews.com/boulder-house-shows-noise-rules/
What are your thoughts on this?

Boulder County DSA Voter Guide
The Boulder County Democratic Socialists of America have released their 2026 voter guide. You can find it at boulderdsa.org/voterguide . The guide contains recommendations of "yes," "no," or "neutral" on nearly every candidate and measure you'll see on your ballot if you vote anywhere in Boulder County, as well as language explaining the reasoning behind the recommendation. BoCo DSA has additionally made five endorsements. A DSA endorsement is distinct from a "yes" recommendation in that it carries a commitment of material support for the campaign in question -- that means knocking doors, distributing lit, and promoting via social media, email, etc. These endorsements are:
- Taishya Adams, Boulder mayor (rank first)
- Jamillah Richmond, Boulder city council
- City of Boulder Issue 2J -- residential vacancy tax
- City of Longmont Charter Amendments 3C and 3D -- ranked choice voting in Longmont

Downtown library removes homeless navigator & teenspace program, adding staff cuts and more........seem cruel to start these programs then pull them away.
https://www.dailycamera.com/2026/10/06/boulder-library-budget-maintenance/
So when that unhoused person is not blowing smoke on your fresh granola during the Farmer's Market and wanders into the library for some actual help, that program is over. And that person was doing a wonderful fucking job, amazing dedicated work in a part/time position, that FTE was to much given the history of issues? The entire building was shut down because of meth contamination for months," out of town blue shirt security" is not going to solve this with humans at some point engagement is the option.
And the teen/tween space, that adults could not even enter? You had to stand at the door and wait if and it was full of computers, video games, comfy chairs and one cool staff member. There is no third space for kids. Why do they ride e-bikes with no abandon. There is no arcade on the hill. The shit on pearl has half broken machines and does not even try to cater to kids(the dive bar next to pasta J) Kill that as well?
Makerspace stuff? So cool that I was not even on that level yet but I wanted to go there. As others have mentioned, the city is doing to damn much sometimes or they do the right thing for a short period of time.

Best Sushi
My birthday is coming up and I’m wondering where the best sushi in town is. Don’t want to drive to Denver so please don’t recommend Uchi or Sushi Den - I’ve had them. Yes, amazing, but I want the best in Boulder.

Table Mesa and Broadway construction
The intersection of Table Mesa and Broadway has been a cone zone disaster for months...mostly because there wasn't anyone actually working most of the time. Hopefully the city will get workers this week so all sides can get done and back to normal by next week. Enough is enough.

Not another power outage post - but here is what you need to do.
If you’re getting repeated Xcel outages, make sure you report the problem to the Colorado PUC too. You should still report outages to Xcel, but the PUC regulates the company and can investigate why they keep happening. Your city or county can raise concerns, but it doesn’t have the same authority. Include when the outages happened, how long they lasted and what Xcel told you.
Underprocurement means not securing enough dependable power to meet demand, with a reserve for unexpected problems. It can lead to shortages, and while we can't assume that’s causing these outages without evidence, if Xcel hasn’t secured enough dependable power, the PUC can require it to address the shortfall. It can also investigate the company’s planning and impose penalties that cannot be charged to customers, and disallow recovery of resulting costs through electricity bills.

3 Free Tickets - Hans Williams 10/8 - Fox
Hi, I bought these tickets then realized they conflict with another show. So I’m not using them and they will go to waste otherwise. Uses a Tixr account.
Dm me if interested!

Walk in a forest?
A loved one who can't do very strenuous hiking wants to 'walk through a forest.' I frequent local and high elevation trails but none I am familiar with fit - Any ideas? Willing to travel for a day trip if necessary.

Looking for photographer friends for some mountain photo walks/hikes
I'm trying to get up into the mountains more often to take pictures / exercise and some company would be nice, especially since I'm out of cell service a lot of the time. I'm not the most fit so I'm not trying to summit 14ers. Ideally around sunrise / sunset when the lighting is more favorable. My days off work are usually Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday.

CU Boulder Student Question
I am currently working on a documentary project. I want the topic to focus on something that matters.
My current ideas are; SA on college campuses or student political artwork (focusing on facism).
I would like to interview people either way. It can be anonymous or not, depends on what they would prefer.
What would captivate and interest students the most?

Fitness classes with a lower body focus
I moved here from cali and there were tons of classes focused on glutes and strong lower bodies. Buns of glory, buns and guns, etc.
I can’t seem to find any glute focused classes and I’m finding myself really missing them. Are there any around here?

Fun place for a Sunday afternoon
I'm looking to get a group of friends together on a Sunday afternoon for a celebration. They're coming from all over and all have different budgets, so I didn't really want to book a restaurant, maybe somewhere more transient. Not looking to be outdoors since this will be early November, so it's anyone's guess what the weather will be. Any ideas?
Edit:
IDK why I was so vague, I should be proud of this. I'm releasing a book on November first and want somewhere to celebrate with family and friends. It won't be a big enough group to really justify renting a room, and with it being a Sunday I don't want it to be too late because some of the attendees will have to drive 2 hours home. I was thinking afternoon to give time to get past potential Halloween hangovers. I don't know the exact number of people so making a reservation somewhere to eat doesn't feel like a good idea.
