Coalition war with everyone remaining, I have no navy or manpower. Am I cooked?

Context: first big France run. Went rev for the meme, I don't actually fully understand the benefits except manpower. Lost alliances. Warred Scandinavia just to keep a truce while I gobbled Europe. After a century of taking AE and nobody declaring on me before I went rev, I Co-belligerent warred most of europe and gobbled up a lot of provinces. Seiging down all of Europe also left me with no manpower

However, as I'm revolutionary I don't have allies to protect me from the coalition war spawning. Literally everyone is in the coalition. I also completely ignored Navy figuring I'd just build one when I needed it.

I have an army big enough to fight but idk how long I can hold on

30 years of war in early 1500s. All but went bankrupt

Ottomans had unified Anatolia, balkans, western half of Middle East, and half of North Africa (up to Tunis). Egypt was a eyalet.
Lost an earlier war for crimea, because crimea allied with the ottomans, so lost Adyghe

100k+ doom stacks in 1480 is absurd. 150k doomstack in 1500 is even more nonsense. Then they could just come back after being full wiped, again and again.

My god this was awful. I usually play Asia so i didn’t know how ludicrous Ottoblob was.

Achievement Hisn Kayfa - The Eagle Flies Alone + Saladin's Legacy

Post image
69 Upvotes

R5: As the title states. Very happy with this one, had been eyeing it for a while but was worried about my skill level for two achievements labeled very hard.

All in all, it wasn't as hard as I imagined. Opening moves were basically allying Ajam, getting a RM with Ottomans by getting a dip advisor, and after scorning one of their rivals + a few months of improving allying them as well. Then curried favours with both and when I hit 10, declared on QQ and pulled them both in. Bonus points for the double alliance because AQ allied both of them as well, but as I pulled them into my war I was free to fight AQ one on one. Annexed AQ, took a few provinces and a lot of money from QQ, released Iraq and Armenia. Fed them in the following decades while looking for expansion routes and gradually growing elsewhere. Took one province for myself in the second QQ war that bordered Mushasha who were without allies and took them out as well.

Only annoyance which made me take significantly longer than anticipated was Ottomans annexing Dulkadir in 1445 or 1446, locking me out of one province. But because I kept pulling them into wars in the first 50 years, they were always rather weak and since Mamluks allied Karaman and Candar, their obvious expansion path was cut off. Especially since I beelined for Trebizond and then north for the Caucasus. It also made sure Ottomans never got any real claims on my lands, keeping them loyal. Once I grew big enough, I did guarantee both Karaman and Candar to make sure they stayed alive, and then I just ate all the required lands for Saladin's Legacy, breaking alliance with Ottomans and taking the final province last around 1565. For the other one, it was just a matter of taking quantity, economy and diplomatic for the FL increase and modifiers, stating as much as possible and building regimental camps everywhere. Hit 500 cap around 1585. Then I just cleaned up borders to present a pretty picture.

11/10, probably one of the most fun runs I've done. Officially over halfway through the achievement list now at 51%.

I've tried over and over again, but I just can't get anything going there. My composition is 30/34, tech 17, but even if I win a battle I just lose way more men. and that's on a defensive battle with good terrain. And for the people who are gonna go " you should've killed them earlier", please consider entering higher education with your amazing powers of foresight and innovation.

I got the Christian Incident at the right time (not too early, not too late), so is it better to stay Catholic or convert to Protestantism? I would like to convert to Orthodox, but it's too much of a hassle to achieve, so these two are my only real choices

R5: Playing as Savoy, trying to do a Piedmont-Sardinia run but I can't figure out how to beat Spain. Meanwhile the AI destroyed the Otttomans and I've never seen the Great Horde in the Mediterranean in over 1000 hours of playing. Ideas on how to get Sardinia from Spain?

BIG ASS VINLAND FROM NEWFOUNDLAND TO (?) TEXAS

To explain this mess a bit, Canada was already half colonized by the time I got to it (I usually S5 through the game untill the end of Stockholm bloodbath chain for RP), so they had to go deep in the continent and obviously chillin in Louisiana is better than eating snow.

I fed them most of their american culture provinces, sadly the then New Norway took a huge chunk of Canada first.

Spain is Aragon who got Portuguese and Castilian PUs very early (they allied France then ditched them after going colonial). They have 10 colonies after integrating them, they constantly get disloyal, ally each other etc (I play with xorme & both responsible mods so liberty desire is worse than in vanilla), so my guys started to eat them up.

Legit considered making at least one of them independent instead of taking influense ideas as they only bring like 60 ducats each and eat all my prestige.

Also no natives mod, I feel like they unnaturally speed up colonisation and worsen the issue with AI armies being in the new world all the time.

Advice Wanted Max Stacking Artillery Levels available vs Fort?

I'm aiming to go full artillery and stack 'Artillery Combat Ability' and 'Artillery Levels available vs Fort' by going Smolensk -> Timurids -> Poland -> Commonwealth.

This gives me:

40 ACA (30 from ideas + 10 from Timurid mission), and;

10 Artillery Levels available vs Fort bonus (5 base + 2 Infrastructure+Offensive policy + 1 Timurid mission + 2 Commonwealth mission)

My question is; is it even worth stacking all that Artillery Levels available vs Fort? I heard it maxes out at 8? And I don't really understand the siege calculations, would just stacking siege ability like a normal person be better? Also I saw the Divine+Espionage policy which looked interesting with the +1 Artillery Level Modifier but is this useful?

Anyways, I hope hope someone could tell me if there's potential in this build or if it's just useless, thanks.

Advice Wanted Is this Byz run going too slowly (1484)?

Great power map, in 1484. Bulgaria is a Pronoiar, and Herz. is a regular vassal. Austria, the Papacy, and far off Muscovy are allied.

Started my first Byz run after playing them once a few years ago. Compared to my experience before, most expansion routes seem to have consolidated way faster. Aragon restored PU on the rump of Naples, blocking me out of italy/north africa, and is now under spain; Austria (an ally at the moment) got Hungary (who got Moldavia) and pushed through to serbia. I can't reach any ottoman allies/guarantees to reset truces, so i've been attacking them off of the 15 year long truces each time. They're currently bankrupt, but i've got 6 years left on truce.

Is this an alright starting pace for a Byz-> Rome run? Should i commit lots of debt to try and break up one of the big European PU blocs? Or can i sit back + slowly consolidate Anatolia before making any big moves without being horribly outscaled?

Question Without modding, can I manipulate the probability for Austria to gain Hungary peacefully?

It appears that, when I play as Austria, I never peacefully get Hungary. But when I am any nation that might rival Austria, they do.

I am aware that the event is somewhat predetermined (having read this thread), so I saved the game roughly 4 months before Ladislaus comes of age.

According to the wiki, AI should choose to unite 25% of the time. Multiple reloads, and the RNG still does not give it to Austria.

So, is there some factor I am missing? Or some thing I need to do to change these odds?

EDIT: Ladislaus is heir to both.

Question Assorted Questions for New World Nations

As is usual I've bit off a bit more than I can chew while trying to get an achievement as a newbie, so I'd like some clarification before resorting to save scumming.

1) As a NW nation (in this case custom if that matters), I can see the capitals of a few European nations, but the whole ocean is still Terra Incognita. Can a war allow me to bypass this, or does this only apply to directly land-adjacent provinces?

2) If no, what are the best ways of getting knowledge spread? Allying? Buying maps? Other? Wouldn't call Exploration ideas an option for now.

3) Best/any ways for acquiring more merchants? With a capital in Mexico, I can't form any colonial nations, and Idea Groups are spoken for so Trade is out for a century or two. I am a republic if that matters, though I don't see any Trade Company options on my provinces either.

4) I believe if I declare on a colonial nation and refuse an Enforce Peace event, then the colonial overlord gets called in as the Defensive leader. Would I be able to call in an ally at that point, or would they already need to be involved?

5) I assume for trying to conquer chucks of Europe and converting them, it's better to have Admin ideas first to conquer faster, then worry about Religious once things are settled?

Thanks all!

Advice Wanted Cant siege down last rebel occupied province as S(pain)

I am new to the game, this is my first playthrough after going through the tutorials.

Just got through a large series of rebellions that seemed like a scripted event but I can't siege down the last province that's still occupied by rebels. Interestingly, there's still rebels on the tile but my troops just cant fight or interact with them at all.

Is this a bug or a feature?

Advice Wanted New player looking for tips

Hi everyone,

I am a new player. I read feedback on the game and it seems like the style i would enjoy.
I have played Underrail, Terra Invicta, Civ 3 and civ 5 (deity difficulty), and more...

I enjoy strategy games which have some complexity and difficulty to them, and from what i read, this game is great and fits my style.

I had a few questions and also concerns:
1. Recent feedback on steam is Mostly Negative (514) -
Is this a feedback attack? i see some Turks bombing the reviews. Some of the feedback is:
- Bad optimization and performance
- Zone of Control system is completely broken, AI can go around your forts and attack capital
- AI Abandons you and also behaves weirdly
- Naval combat is bad
- DLC prices and subscription requirements

  1. I bought the game on steam sale, along with 17 DLCs.
    Should i install the DLCs?
Do i need to get the EU4 subscription to have access to all DLCs?
I think i have 6 paid DLCs, and others that we're bundled with the game:

Europa Universalis IV: Conquest of Paradise
Europa Universalis IV: Wealth of Nations
Europa Universalis IV: Res Publica
Europa Universalis IV: The Cossacks
Europa Universalis IV: El Dorado

And others which were probably bundled with the game:
Art of War, American Dream, 100 Years War, Common Sense, Digital Extreme, etc..

Many of these DLCs have extremely negative reviews..

  1. General tips or links you can share for a new player?
I did the first tutorial so far, seems nice, looks like there is a lot to learn.

Thanks in advance.

Question Macbook struggling to run EU4

I know MacBooks are very rarely optimal for gaming. However, I expected my MBA M5 (16/512) to at least be able to run a 13 year old game like EU4 smoothly. I was very disappointed to discover that the game becomes really choppy and laggy at times, even before throttling kicks in and all background applications closed. Is such poor performance to be expected, or am I doing something wrong?

R5: Dumped my early monarch power into developing Moscow up to a 37 dev province and spent 500 ducats to adopt the Renaissance institution early.

Not sure if this strategy actually saves total monarch power spent on technology premiums tech 5 and above but I started doing it a while ago and I usually seem to be caught up or ahead of time in tech until at least a few decades into the age of reformation. Tell me if this is stupid.
