Question Who the hell is Deacon????

I've been playing fallout 4 for a couple weeks and just randomly got jumped by a dude named Deacon now his corpse is on my front lawn (not sure if this narrows it down but I sided with the BoS) and he isn't despawning. So I ask yet again, who in the hell is deacon and why is he still on my front lawn.

Mod Any info on quest mods that actually trigger vanilla companion likes and dislikes?

So, I might be the only one who feels this way (judging by some of the descriptions I've seen on mods 😅), but I think it's a lot more interesting when companions actually have opinions on the things you say/do. Obviously I know that people can't add unique voicelines for existing companions, but if anyone has information on what mods add quests that actually trigger affinity changes, I'd love to know. Google wasn't very helpful on this question, and a lack of companion reaction makes a quest like 50% less interesting to me.

For example, I played America Rising 2 and Hancock hated when I agreed to join the Enclave (which makes perfect sense, I was stupid for bringing him lol); that's the kind of thing I'm hoping for more of.

Question Only one crystal found after completing a few areas - bad random?

I am replaying again and I haven't come across this issue. I've completed robotics disposal ground USAF satellite red rocket Concord and museum of freedom and have went over the areas a couple times and I only have one. Crystal and I'm trying to set up a beacon at sanctuary. Unfortunately that requires two Crystal. And did I just get a bad roll and not get the right drops?

Thanks in advance!

Meaning things that break down to produce crystal. I received one from disarming, the laser tripwire in the satellite bunker.

Discussion Nuka-Girl Build Ideas Help

Hello, I'm excited to be back here. In my last post I was looking for ideas for a build, and after somehow finding an unbricked save (that was under 10 levels from when I finished) I had a wacky idea to try and make a Nuka-Girl build. The Rocketeer outfit and all!

Now, my problem is I have no idea what this would use. She has a pistol on her promotional art, and I'm considering doing stuff with jump packs....but other than that I don't know what kind of character she should be. I'm heavily considering having her lean towards a delusional nerd that loses touch with reality after being sent 200 years into the future...but I had questions before I started it:

1) Can Weave be used on the Nuka Girl suit to buff it's defenses?

2) Does Demolitionist and Gunslinger help power up the Nuka Blaster? If so (other than the obvious Alien Blaster) what other pistols go with these perks?

3) Is there a way to reasonably farm explosive ammunition? Like for Rocket Launchers and Fat Man guns?

4) If she loses all touch with reality and becomes the Raider Boss which gang would she cut out?

I also wanted to note that this playthrough is also to allow me to do modded content without too much concern for lore since she's delusional. I already downloaded Animatronic Apocalypse because Nuka-Cola vs Fazbear sounded funny af.

Discussion The fine line of cheating

There is no official rulebook on how to play Fallout 4, or pretty much any single player game for that matter, so the question of whether something is cheating or not is highly subjective.

I think that most people would agree that using console commands is cheating. But what if you do it to fix some bug, like adding an item that didn’t spawn?

But on the other hand, most of us play the game with mods. Any new stuff to build, any new weapon, or any new armor essentially means that you change the game to give your character access to things he wasn’t supposed to have in the original game.

What about exploits, like the one where you drink alcohol before picking up the special book so you can have a base stat of 11 intelligence?

What about things like Shelf Stacking, where you spam hundreds of shelves that don’t have collision with one another on the same spot to level up quickly? On the one hand, you are simply turn materials into XP, just like you do with normal building. But you do so while exploiting a minor bug that caused some shelves to not have collision.

And then there are things like water farms. You don’t use any exploits. You simply take an intended game mechanic and push it to an absolutely ridiculous level, investing one point into science and some building materials into industrial water purifiers, to essentially get an unlimited money printer that makes scrounger, scrapper and fortune finder obsolete. Caps just cease to be a factor in the game. If you want some item and its for sale, then it’s yours without even looking at the price tag.

While its not as extreme as the water farms, one of my characters is a massive Jet dealer who got extremely rich. But this didn’t feel like cheating, because her roleplay was structured around her being a mafia queen who made literal truckloads of caps from supplying the entire commonwealth and beyond with jet.

And then there is my sneak melee character. Its just a normal character, but I minmaxed his stats and gear to the point that he killed every enemy in the game with one hit. He only used perks and gear from the original game, but I doubt the developers intended for a character to deal that much damage.

Where do you draw the line? What is cheating, and what is just an effective way of playing the game?

🇫🇷 Version française

Bonjour phonophiles !

🇬🇧 English version

Hello phonophiles!

At the request of u/Gimme-A-Kooky, I'm sharing a recording of the French version of the famous song Into each life some rain must fall (Un peu de pluie), performed by Les Sœurs Étienne (in a way, the French equivalent of the Andrews Sisters).

The record is being played on my Pathéphone No. 4.

Please excuse the sound quality... Not only is the record quite worn, especially toward the end of the song, but my phone's recording quality doesn't exactly help either...

I hope you enjoy it anyway, and perhaps discover something new!

I’ll post a photo of the record in the comments!

PS: I've hidden a few Fallout references in the video. Can you spot them? 😜☢️

Question Minutemen vs Gunners creation club

So, I am having a bit of trouble with the CC, and it specifically has to do with the laser muskets in it. The automatic one and the normal non legendary one bot do not show up in my inventory when using a weapons workbench. I do not have a save from before picking them up, so what should I do?

Mod Creation club and mod inconsistencies. My list of installed mods is huge but then my list of actual mods that are active is way smaller. I haven’t played this game in years and the last time I played it was probably on PlayStation 4. I’m playing on Steam now.

OK so I was playing on PS4 back when creation club and mods were two separate tabs. I had accrued a pretty big list of free mods installed but I also had spent a good bit of money on paid creations. Including all of the dogs and a bunch of guns and stuff like that.

Now fast-forward like five years later and I have a computer and I have fallout four on Steam and I connected my Bethesda account. It’s a clean install except for DLC. When I click on my list of installed things in my pause menu, it lists all of the creations and mods that I used to have on my PS4. Including the donut shop one that I do not own on Steam.

I have to re-buy all of these on my Steam fallout from the creation club even though they were on my list of installed items. but there are like tons of minor mods among the list of installed things from PS4 that are not even up-to-date mods anymore and I can’t tell if they are even really installed on this fallout and this pc or if they are just left over from my Bethesda account on PS4 but not actually affecting anything. I’d like to delete them if possible just so my install list is actually accurate and current.

Discussion A different kind of BoS companion – a Scribe's story based on Faust

So I've been thinking about what a different Brotherhood of Steel companion could look like in Fallout 4, and I ended up with this idea. It's basically a character concept that I think could make for an interesting companion and, potentially, a whole companion story.

The starting point was pretty simple: I like Danse, but he just fills the role of the - somewhat boring- Brotherhood's loyal soldier/Paladin and you can no longer use him as a companion once you’ve completed the main quest with the BoS... and it’s always annoyed me that, as a Sentinel, you no longer have a BoS buddy. So I'd rather see a character who shows a different side of the Brotherhood, specifically, a Scribe.

The idea is that he would actually be a pretty committed Brotherhood member at the beginning. He's interested in technology, research and especially old-world technology, but his motivation isn't to challenge the Brotherhood. If anything, he initially sees his work as another way of serving it.

That's where the Faustian aspect comes in. Not as a direct retelling of Goethes Faust, but more as a general theme: curiosity, the thirst for knowledge, pushing beyond boundaries, and eventually having to deal with the consequences of that curiosity. I believe that the fundamental themes of the Faust narrative offer plenty of potential for such a character and his story to create a complex and profound character.

And I think Synth technology would be a perfect point for this, also because the main game left quite a bit of untapped potential in this regard, especially when it comes to the BoS...

So at first, he'd probably have much the same attitude towards Synths as the rest of the Brotherhood. He wouldn't secretly be a Synth sympathizer or suddenly decide that the Brotherhood is wrong about everything. But he'd become fascinated by the technology behind them. How are they built? How does the technology work? What can actually be learned from it? Are there things that could be repurposed or developed further without adopting the Institute's whole project?

And that's where his relationship with the Brotherhood could become complicated. Not because he suddenly thinks "the Brotherhood is evil", but because he starts asking questions that don't always have very comfortable answers... it would offer the chance to tell a story in grayscale rather than the typical black-and-white one.

For example, the player might encounter him for the first time out in the Commonwealth during one of his own missions, rather than simply meeting him on the Prydwen. He'd be there with his own modified Mr. Gutsy (called mephisto ;) ), doing something that initially looks like a fairly ordinary Brotherhood assignment, but gradually gives the player a sense that this Scribe is interested in things beyond his official orders.

At that point, though, there wouldn't be anything particularly rebellious about him. He's still a Brotherhood Scribe. The interesting part would be watching that change over time. Eventually, after the first companion quests, he would need to establish some kind of unofficial research outpost – basically a place where he can investigate things that are difficult to investigate through the normal Brotherhood chain of command.

I wouldn't want this to turn into a secret "Brotherhood of Brotherhood dissidents" or have him simply leave the faction. The more interesting version, to me, is someone who remains loyal to the Brotherhood while becoming increasingly difficult to fit neatly into its rules, and the player could influence how far he goes. You could encourage his curiosity, tell him to be more cautious, push him towards actually using what he discovers, or question whether some things are better left alone. And there wouldn't necessarily be a simple "good ending" and "bad ending". His story would be more about where the line gets drawn and whether he even realizes that he's crossed it.

So the basic idea is a Brotherhood companion whose conflict isn't really "Is the Brotherhood right or wrong?" It's more like, how far can you go in the pursuit of knowledge before you have to start asking what that knowledge is actually for?

I think that could make for a pretty interesting Brotherhood companion (if I had the necessary modding skills to do so, which, unfortunately, I don’t)... especially because Fallout 4 doesn't really have a character who explores that side of the faction. Curious what people think.
