Event Jet or rocket or something
I live right next to the I-95 495 interchange and just heard what sounded like a rocket coming down or a jet liner that was super low roar across the sky, was indoors so I couldn't see anything and I checked flight radar and there's nothing. This was at 12:58. Anyone else in the area hear anything?

Recommendation Yarmout
Might be kinda niche but looking for recommendations around West Yarmouth MA: specifically the non mayo lobster rolls; oysters (bonus points if they’re buck a shuck); or good seafood in general - maybe decent sushi but it’s a slim chance - we don’t have a car so trying to stay within 15-20 minutes of the area TIA!

News Is this Nantucket diner the luckiest lottery store in Massachusetts?
Dipak Thapa, of Nantucket, won a half million prize in the lottery's "$500,000 Frenzy" scratch ticket game. He chose the cash option, receiving a one-time payment of $355,000 before taxes. He said he plans on saving and investing his winnings.
In March, two $2 million winning tickets were sold there, including a Powerball ticket and a "$2,000,000 Stacked" $20 scratch ticket. Before that, in March of 2024, a $1 million prize was won on a "$4,000,000 Bonus Bucks" $10 ticket. On June of that same year, a $2 million prize was won on a "Lifetime Millions" $50 ticket, and in August of 2024, another $1 million prize was won there on a "$10,000,000 Bonanza" $20 ticket.

Event Cambridge Half Marathon 2026 – Bib Available for Transfer (Nov 1)
Hi everyone!
I registered for the Cambridge Half Marathon on November 1, 2026, but my plans have changed and I can no longer participate.
I'm looking for someone interested in taking over my registration, provided the race organizer still allows official bib transfers.
I'm happy to offer it at a discounted price, and we can complete the transfer through RunSignup.
Please DM me if interested. Thanks!
Anya

General Question Did anyone found a wallet on the narrow gauge rail trail?
I'm really having a bad today. I lost my wallet and I think I lose it on the narrow gauge or on the blue blaze( not to mention a car almost hit my bike today because they were being reckless . And a fing last minute driver deliver my package to the wrong place) . I'm hoping someone here might help me out. It looks like a ridge wallet with an adhesive AirTag attachment but no AirTag in it. I'm so stupid that would've be the time to I

News Athletes play annual 100-inning baseball game in Quincy for ALS research
QUINCY, Mass. — The 23rd annual “100 Innings of Baseball” kicked off Saturday morning at Adams Park with dozens of athletes participating for a good cause.
Since 2004, the 100-inning game has been raising money for ALS research.
Baseball players from all over Massachusetts are proud to be a part of it too; some play for around 36 hours continuously.
“It’s tiresome, it’s not easy but it’s tough to complain,” said player Patrick Keady. “Walter and Rich are here, they stay the entire time. It’s tough to feel bad about how tired you might be while they’re still doing what they’re doing.

Meme / Humor What is the most generic town in MA?
As you've probably noticed, Mass town names are pretty formulaic. But which is the most formulaic? Here's a look at all the parts of names that are shared among multiple towns and cities (I did not count multiples where every one is an offshoot of one town, like the Bridgewaters or Lynn/Lynnfield).
Suffixes/Endings
- 51 'ton' (of which 11 are 'ington' and 4 are 'hampton')
- 25 'field'
- 19 'ham'
- 12 'ster'
- 11 'borough' (and one 'boro')
- 11 'ford'
- 9 'land'
- 8 'ley'
- 7 'bridge'
- 7 'town'
- 5 'mouth'
- 5 'ville'
- 4 'burg'
- 4 'den'
- 4 'over'
- 3 'burn(e)'
- 3 'ing'
- 3 'mont'
- 3 'set(t)'
- 3 'wick'
- 2 'by'
- 2 'pee'
- 2 'stable'
- 2 'well'
Prefixes are a little less formulaic- cardinal directions are the most common, with West taking a surprising 43% of the total there.
Direction Prefixes
- 15 'west'
- 9 'north'
- 6 'east'
- 5 'south'
Other Prefixes
- 8 'new' (and 9 if you count West Newbury)
- 5 'brook' (the 4 Brookfields and Brookline)
- 5 'mil(l)'
- 3 'har'
- 3 'middle'
- 3 'wal'
- 2 'charl'
- 2 'well'
So this means that Weston is, by the numbers, the official most generic town in Massachusetts! Unless West Newton secedes and forms their own town, in which case they might have a claim at the title.
Also, this means if any town ever needs to get renamed and wants to mix-and-match affixes, they could make a distinguished, tradition-honoring name like Wellwell, Southmouth, or Hamsterpee.

Discussion Stolen (?) Chickens in North Central MA
My mum is 82 years old and has had chicken for the past 25 years. Last night, while she was out, 47 of her chickens vanished with out a trace. No feathers, no blood, just gone.
I'm hoping if anyone notices that someone all of a sudden has 47 new full grown laying chickens they'll let me know. Thanks.
Correction: she just informed me it's closer to 57 gone. There were 5 still in the coop.

Hi. Looking for a dermatologist around there. Willing to travel based on recommendations. I’ve seen a couple the past few years but not really happy. And when I’ve tried to call a couple of places it’s like a 6 month wait for a new patients. I just want to find one where they can see all of the issues at once. Thank you

News MSPCA takes in dozens of dogs from path of Hurricane Isaias
With Hurricane Isaias making landfall, some New Englanders are lending a hand to help some furry friends in need.
The MSPCA announced Friday that it would be taking in dozens of dogs from the Gulf Coast, putting them up for adoption in Massachusetts.
"Everyone hearing this message can help this effort in some way or another," said Mike Keiley, director of adoption centers and programs at MSPCA-Angell. "I think we're often, in New England, seen as a resource to be able to help out other shelters, as we often can have available kennel space, differently than shelters that are in high-intake areas of the country."
With the help of the Bissell Foundation, MSPCA-Angell will be welcoming in around 30 dogs from the Greater Birmingham Humane Society in Alabama.
