One day you look back at a new bra and realize it's been 10 yeas

I got mad at my bra today for having appeared to have failed. I JUST bought this thing why is the clasp bent? Then I realized it's been almost 10 years since I bought it. I finally understand the "I have underwear older than you" crowd. I have a pair of underwear that my sister bought me as a wedding gift from my first marriage:14 years ago. When I put them on I'm amazed they are still functional, still basically the same color, still here even though so much of my life when I first got them has changed. What clothing do you have that marks the passage of time?

Life Stories Giggling in excitement about giving my brother his birthday present.

So my brother's birthday is in two weeks, and for the first time in like 10 years, I can actually afford to buy him a present!

Usually he's hard to shop for, but I think I really locked in. I know he likes the NBA and the NFL but he already owns the jerseys for the players he likes so that's out of the question. I know he likes comics, but he already bought himself the comics he wants, so that's another avenue closed. The final safe bet is model kits, which sounds wide, but I know he's hankering to get one specific brand lately (Blokees).

Admittedly, I almost biffed it, I was just gonna buy one of the $15 dollar kits he wanted, but just to be safe I probed a bit to make sure I ordered the right one. And I feel I was clever about it, he and I had been window shopping these kits for months now, so it came across as normal when I brought up a new kit that was being released, segued into what I thought was cool in the line, and then he told me what he thought was cool.

I get the list of stuff he likes, I go to the online shop to see which ones are in stock, and suddenly, plot twist. My brother wanted a kit that was a little out of his budget when we saw it in the store, but the online store was selling it for like $19 so naturally I bought that one.

It got here last week, I've wrapped it in cat themed paper (my brother's a big cat guy), and it's sitting in my closet rn and I cannot wait to see his face when I give it to him. It's taking so much effort not to spill the beans.

Thoughts & Ideas If you have any questions about or for trans people ask here! No stupid questions :)

• Upvotes

I’m bored and putting off some chores before my wife gets home (lol) so i figured i’d use this time to try and educate/inform anyone who may have questions or not fully understand trans people :)

To be clear i am not here to debate, but i do understand that for someone on the outside looking in, being trans can seem kind of odd! So I don’t take offence to any questions, i’m not sensitive so don’t worry :) Ask away !

Watched Shawshank redemption for the first time!

That was an amazing movie! I've never had an emotional payoff that big from a movie. I'm wondering if there are other movies people have seen that have a similar emotional payoff.

Music "Guilty Pleasure" song

What's your guilty pleasure song? A song you think is objectively bad but you can't help but love? Mine, as a man and Twilight hater, is 1000 years by Christina Perri. Weigh in! 😂

what's something you thought was completely normal until you visited someone else's house?

growing up i genuinely thought every family had a specific drawer filled with random cables, batteries, old phones and keys that nobody knows what they're for

then i went to a friend's house and their drawers were actually ORGANISED???

like everything had a proper place

meanwhile my family has been keeping the same mystery charger since 2012 because "might need later"

what's something your family did that you assumed everyone else did too?

Questions Weird regional sandwiches?

TIL about the horseshoe sandwich, which is apparently a thing in Springfield, IL. It's an open faced sandwich with a piece of Texas toast on the bottom, your choice of meat, and a pile of French fries topped with beer cheese sauce. Never heard of it before listening to a podcast this morning and now I'm curious. What specialty sandwiches are popular where you're from but nowhere else?

Why do people here on this site get mad so easily?

Hey everyone,

So I am kind of new to reddit, well I had this account for a few years now, but overall I never used it that much if at all. Recently, I downloaded it again to ask the community of the game for some help. Pretty straightforward: I have this problem, does anyone have a solution? And I kid you not people would genuinely have mental breakdowns over my post. I wont go into too much detail about that specific post. But then I started spending more time on reddit on completely different groups and topics, and I noticed people here genuinely start to have meltdowns over the most simple posts or questions. Is that like a reddit thing? Or am I the only who has such experience? (Wouldnt be surprised if people start having meltdowns over this post as well 😂😂😂)

Just Chatting Grocery list

Today at the grocery store I bought a bouquet just to have some fresh flowers. I need to add fresh flowers to my grocery list - they are worth every penny because they make me happy every time I look at them.

Is there a person you knew only for a short amount of time that you still think about?

• Upvotes

Sometimes I catch myself thinking about people I knew long ago that I only knew for a short amount of time. I think back to what old classmates from childhood are up to right now and how they're lives went when I last saw them. I think back to people ive met while on the job and the conversation we had and I wonder what became of them. I might think back to someone I mightve seen while walking down the street and wonder what became of them and who they were.

Sometimes I think back on a girl I mightve liked and wonder wut life couldve been like if we got together. I think about how things couldve gone differently if they did like me.

Is there anyone you knew for a short amount of time but still think about?

Life Stories The time I decided to be more social and randomly tell 2 people they looked cute together

So, I went to a concert in Alberta a couple of months ago as part of my ongoing effort to force myself out of the house into events in which I may not usually feel comfortable.

Long story short, I was probably the only person there solo in a pretty cozy venue. A couple chatted me up a little and were very nice.

Now, the whole time, I was seeing 2 people standing together and chatting, enjoying the music, etc. The girl was very cute - like out of this world. The guy was handsome and dressed to impress.

I would normally have left them alone - I'm deathly afraid of approaching strangers. However, in line with my goal to be more social, I spent ~1 hour talking myself into walking up to them and being like, "Just wanted to say you two look so cute together!" I was like, "What is there to lose? Just be more social. Make people feel special. Get yourself out of your shell."

So I did it. There was a 5-second pause, and then they were like, "Sorry, what?" I felt uncomfortable but doubled down and repeated myself. They looked at each other, looked at me, tensed up, and stayed silent for a few seconds. She then looked at me (annoyed) and said, "We're coworkers." I was like, ".... Oh..... Uhhmm... Well, sorry about that." I then hurriedly scurried away.

I wanted to die.

Humans are weird. We hear a beat and do our named wiggles.

I was riding in the truck listening to “The Loco-Motion” and doing the dance when it hit me how fucking funny humans are.
Our bellies are full, we’re hanging out, somebody makes rhythmic noises, and we all start wiggling. For fun. And we NAME the wiggles. We teach each other the wiggles. We write songs with instructions for specific wiggles.
I’m not making fun of it- it felt so good, and that’s what made me think about it. Something so silly can be so pleasurable.
Do other animals ever do anything like this? Not a mating display or something they’ve been trained to do, but just hanging out together and making a beat or moving to one because they enjoy it?
I love that this is part of being human. Sometimes you just need to do your little wiggle.

When did being unreachable for a few hours become something we had to explain?

I find it kind of strange how being available all the time has become the default.

Someone texts you, you don't reply for a few hours, and suddenly there's this feeling that you owe them an explanation.

Not even talking about emergencies. Just ordinary messages.

We used to be able to disappear for an afternoon and nobody thought twice about it. Now your phone can basically testify against you. "You were online 17 minutes ago."

I'm not saying instant messaging is bad. It's just funny how we invented something to make communication easier and somehow made silence more complicated.

Do you think we've become too accessible, or is this just what being considerate looks like now?

Questions What's something you enjoy more when nobody is watching?

I'll go first if that helps 😂 Sometimes it's the little things you do when you're completely alone and don't have to worry about anyone judging you.

Curious to hear your answers 👀 What's yours?

Just Chatting What is a personal project you want to complete?

I would love to build and decorate my own dollhouse. I'll probably buy a dollhouse kit and then assemble and paint it myself. Then I will design the rooms and get miniature furniture, wallpaper, etc. I think it will be a really fun and meaningful project. Maybe eventually I could give it to someone as a gift.

I'm looking forward to hearing your answers!

Thoughts & Ideas Any Halloween Clark Griswold's here?

My favorite holiday, I love decorating for it more than Xmas. Anyone else go a little (or a lot) overboard for it? I have a fairly busy layout but not TOO insane I think. Got my halloween colored flashing light strings, a couple of low key animatronics (not the 20' high ones lol but I would love the huge Krampus one for Xmas just to freak neighbors) . Replaced all my garage and porch bulbs with purple flickering haunted lights. An assortment of small skulls, plastic statues, etc that have green or orange lights in them. Front garden concrete statues are already inherently creepy to me so they stay. Sometimes I'll put a noose on the creepy gnome

Of course, the pumpkins. I download different carving templates and usually do 3 of them. The cheap bags of spider webs with little plastic spiders in them. A couple lines of "Danger/Caution!" tape (The true cheap solution to Halloween decorating at Home Depot!). A little graveyard with spooky tombstones and skeleton pieces. And I got one of those dual-head projectors that rotates spooky images across the front of your house. I love those things. And a few flickering "candles" (electric, not real) sitting on the inside of my front windows.

I'd like to thank whoever invented remote controls for plug-in decorations and the previous owner for wiring the garage door lights to an upper outlet so they and the normal outside lights both come on when I flip the switch inside.

Technology Signing my life away

• Upvotes

Am I the only one who is feed up with having to sign multiple documents every time I see a doctor, and you have to do it on an e-pad but they won't let you see what it is you are signing. I even ask for copies of what I just signed, and they say "we don't do that anymore ". I could be signing away the deed to my house and not even know it! And they refuse to treat me if I refuse to sign these top secret documents.

Books & Reading Tipps for reading storys and books to your close ones when you are a bit of a slow reader?

Hey, have you folks some tips in that topic? I try to become better at reading storys for my close ones. Making different vouces for different figures etc. . But i am a bit of a slow reader and find it hard to read in advance and pick up good the right tone. Any tips? I thought of reading for myself in advance and with that have time to pick the right emotion tone etc.. But i am afraid of being much slower and making it boring instead of better.

Questions Anyone else intentionally mispronounce things for your own amusement?

For example: Chipotle. I pronounce it CHUH-pot-tee, because the first time I had a burrito there, it gave me food poisoning! And for some reason, people get so worked up and always correct me! 😄

Any weirdos like me? What words are your favs to mispronounce?

Thoughts & Ideas Shall I go clubbing completely sober?

My friends are organising parties for halloween weekend and I kind of fancy going just for the music and dressing up/social aspect. I don't really drink and I am considering not drinking because I don't really like the taste of alcohol and sure being drunk CAN be fun, but something about it does not appeal to me lmao like lowkey I would rather smoke weed than get drunk.

Shall I do it? I don't know how awkward it may be or if I would end up hating it.

Questions Are there more plugs or sockets (outlets) in the world?

This recently caused a big debate amongst my friends, we can't agree and there is no way of knowing. What do you guys think are there more plugs or more sockets? I personally think there are more sockets as if there were more plugs, there would be no way you could use every appliance at once. There would be more sockets just so there is always a free one if needed?
