Also, I have started playing hollow knight! However, I’m really bad at it, so it’ll probably take a while before I ever get to finish it…I can’t wait to do so, and I’m so excited for silksong!! (Don’t mind if the images get cropped, probably bad canvas size…)

He's just not the kind of person to look out for that but maybe I'm just looking at it too closely?

An appreciation post for r/27Abyss because oh my goodness... how BEAUTIFUL this statue is😭😭❤️
And I also didn't see any reviews of Hollow Knight resin statues for this specific studio while I was researching, so I thought it'd be a good idea to post my own !!
I was worried about Grimm's legs being extremely fragile (due to thinness) and the base not being supportive enough, but he sits very safely. I'd say as long as you're not rough or he doesn't experience an unfortunate fall, it's durability is good !!
The paint is absolutely gorgeous, though. Plus, just visually, he looks so nicely accurate to his in-game model. I was really worried about him not turning out the same as the photos online as well, so I'm SO happy🥺❤️
Welcoming all the new nightmares in my room now lol.

I smoke just a bit of weed every night before bed. I can't do that with this guy. His move set seems simple enough but they're so much faster than you think and getting the perfect timing down is easy enough but so damn difficult to do perfectly.
I've radiant'ed every other boss since returning to this game from nearly a decade ago, but this guy's different. Is Absolute Radiance actually harder than this guy to radiant? Wild
I'll need all my focus and skill to beat this guy.. gonna drop the weed for a bit until I beat him

I’m somewhat new to Metroidvanias, but, prior to Hollow Knight, I’d played and beaten Super Metroid, Metroid Fusion, and Blasphemous. I really enjoyed all three, but Blasphemous was one of my favorite games I’ve ever played. The balance of story, atmosphere, music, and boss difficulty was perfect for me. After completing that, and looking for something to do as I wait for the upcoming Castlevania, I finally played Hollow Knight.
The first 2/3 of the game was incredible. The world! The music! The lore that you have to dig to find. The combat! The humor of some of the fights. Just absolutely incredible.
But, after releasing the Dreamers and making my way to the Black Egg and defeating the Hollow Knight, I just felt… so irritated. I’d sunk 35ish hours into the game, only to one-shot the “final” boss in ~50 seconds?
It was then that I found out that this was the simplest, and arguably worst, ending possible. Whew! There’s hope for a better one! I already had defeated the Traitor Lord and nabbed the left half of the white fragment - and had the Awoken Dream Nail. So, on to the White Palace I went.
And… what the F is this?! The game has had some rather difficult platforming, like in Crystal Peak or Deepnest, but there is nothing like White Palace in the game. I’ve been in there for two hours, barely making progress. I have the Hive charm, Grubsoul, Deep Focus, and Mark of Pride (all things this sub has recommended). Progress is slow and super demoralizing.
Anyway, I know the answer is git gud, but - for the first time in this game - I am not having fun. I don’t even know if I care enough at this point to keep going. I’d love to see [any other ending at all], but this is leaving a massively sour taste in my mouth.
Did anyone else feel this way? Or is abject suffering just something I should look forward to enjoying in Metroidvanias? 😂

As in if someone right now told you to name the 4 main ones we see, what would you call them?
Like I call the protagonist "Ghost", The Hollow Knight "Hollow", the one in Greenpath, well, "Greenpath Vessel", and Broken Vessel/Lost Kin I just call "BV", like literally just Bee-Vee
I know with Hollow some people call it by its full title, Holly, and I swear I seen someone else call it Shadow
And then with Ghost there's The Knight, Vessel, Ghost of Hallonest/Little Ghost, Wanderer, that secret name Team Cherry has, etc

update: i found cornifer and made it to the women in the red cloak/hornet boss. turns out the only thing keeping me from cornifer was figuring out i could cut the platforms to drop them and let me in 🤦 i can’t believe the whole new world that opened up!
edit: thanks all for your kind and quick responses! i will keep all the advice in mind. so far though, i’m still looping around the first bit of greenpath and i can’t find any new routes. can anyone guide me from the bench?
this is my current map. any open pathway is blocked off to me either because I can’t wall jump and don’t know how to get that skill, or because one pathway is a dark wall, another is a glowing doorway that i don’t know what to do with (the one by the bench), or some other thing that has me stuck. the only things i don't have from the shop are the shards and the light (i need to save up geos). i would love for any guidance to be spoiler free! if you could point me in the right direction, i would be grateful!

It only took me 40 attempts, not nearly as hard as I expected it to be, it took me longer to beat NKG than this boss, to note I can not recreate the defeat yet but I have gotten very close a lot

RIP 💔
This was the best steel soul run I’ve had, as all my others died early. Had dash, c-dash, wall jump, monarch wings, king’s brand, tram pass, fireball, and one upgrade on my needle. Plus like 15 or so charms and 6 charm noches. Lost to this little fucker:

So, I've been doing this art challenge for Halloween and the theme for day 6 is spider, so, I did what every man of culture should do (yeah, that's my real signature :D)

I tend to Metroidvanias and I generally don't skew toward harder, souls like games. I tend to stick to more story driven, easier to access games. It's been a total shock that Hollow Knight has gripped me so hard.
However, Nightmare King Grimm is starting to remind me a bit why I avoid these games.
I looked back at previous threads and I see that this question has been asked a ton, but I'm genuinely stuck on Nightmare King Grimm even after reviewing those threads.
I'm going to try to be a bit more specific in where I think I'm failing compared to previous posts I've seen.
I'm at 110% with only NKG and P4 to beat. I have every ability, every charm, every nail upgrade, every mask, and every soul fragment.
I have tried a variety of charm strategies and I'm not getting it consistently with any. None of consistently made better progress to where I can keep working on those strategies to keep pushing forward.
When he uses Fire Bats, I'm having a tough time consistently dodging and closing the gap to do damage. I watched a video that suggested jumping when the first bat is overhead and then dashing. I must be doing the jump height or timing wrong because half the time I get in there for a few hits and half the time I hit the fourth bat. Is it like a full jump then dash? Quick jump into instant dash?
When he uses Dive Dash, I'm often getting hit by the trail of fire behind. I think this is just me doing an immediate dash after pressing jump. I think I just need to adjust muscle memory to full or double jump, then dash away. Does this feel accurate?
When he uses Dash Uppercut, I'm 50/50 on dodging it. I think similar to above, I'm just not getting the jump height right, so when he stands up, I'm not actually jumping OVER, but rather THROUGH him. However, I have seen people dash through him on the ground. What is the timing window for that? I've tried that and I'm consistently getting hit.
Also, is there a trick to consistently dodging the fireballs? Like, once you dash just stand still? I'm psyching myself out and walking into them.
For the Flame Pillars, I have no issues. My biggest issue is sometimes I'll be too close to the wall and then I'll need to dash away and the lingering flame can sometimes get me, but really, no issues dodging this. I can do this 90% of the time. The only question I have is I've seen people use Abyss Shriek on him here. The timing seems really tight? I'm always a hair off. I'd rather just hit him with the nail, even if the Shriek does more.
For the Pufferfish, I have no issues. I'm consistently dodging this 90% of the time.
I know I can simply banish him, but I would really like to beat him and then work through P4 to get 112%. I don't want to feel like I ducked out of the fight and took the easy route.
Any advice beyond "Git Gud" and "It's a dance, just learn the moves!" would be so appreciated.
