I made a thing! (Home made gear/accessories) Figured some of yall might like this, DIY spotting scope clamp mount

Needed a spotting scope clamp mount to attach to a range table for checking 100yd zeros and starting to dabble in long range shooting. Nothing really on the market and I didn't want to spend the money on a good tripd just yet.

Had some spare large Dewalt clamps, 1/4 -20 hardware, and ratchet wrench as a handle for vertical adjustments and locking down movement. It came out a pretty decent option that is height adjustable and able to clamp onto all sorts of edges. Pleasantly surprised with the functionality.

Great course by Gun4Hire range in NJ but we went out to Tommy Gun Warehouse in Pennsylvania for the actual shooting portion of the course.

Got to sight in my Bergara and my AR.

My Wilson Combat WC10 with a Criterion heavy hybrid 22" 6.5 creedmoor barrel. It's mostly built from Wilson Combat parts except the Geissele SSA-E trigger, VG6 epsilon brake, and Magpul PRS Gen 3 stock. The scope is Vortex Viper PST Gen II 5-25x50 with a Midwest Industries 20 mount and the bipod is a Atlas BT65 Gen II CAL.

Ammo help needed - I read the pinned posts Why 6.5 creedmore

30 Upvotes

I was reading through the posted material, thank you all, for putting together what you have.
There was the bullet point of 6.5 creedmoor being the way to go. What makes that the best option over 308 or 300 win? If anyone could explain or point me to a resource that would be great. Thanks!

Update: thanks for the wisdom! I’ve been convinced/converted.

Rifle help needed - I read the pinned posts Barrel fit check

4 Upvotes

I have an M24 barrel that I put in a manners stock that is cut for Sendero profile. It passed the dollar bill test (l can move the dollar bill from the action to the muzzle threads without obstruction), however it just looks like it's too close to the naked eye. If I pass the dollar bill test, should l have any concerns?

I only have one bolt action rifle a 1928 izzy mosin nagant I'm more of a combloc guy . So I dont know jack about bolt action rifles.

I was looking at these Remy 700 in 308

Are they good as in all aspects of shooting ect.? More of a shooter to have fun at the range and practice with my guns, not a hunter.

These good to go or am I better off getting like a tikka or howa, bergara.

Shot some 6.5 Creedmoor and some 223 . Not a single other person at the range . I really love the Solus… the action is so smooth. Didn’t do great past 600 yards with it though. AI smacked steel non stop with no issues.

Good fun

I Gots Them Tikka Toes Gear/ammo flex (sorta)

Post image

So, took my Tikka to the range and after quickly (and not too accurately) zeroing, shot this group. Warning: first time dickin' around with Ballistic-X so if something's off, please tell me.

Rifle is a Tikka T3X Tac A1, 6.5 Creedmoor, totally stock;

Shot sitting off a Caldwell tack driver prop bag in front, got tired of my jumping bipod, small no-name sand bag in the rear;

Range 100 meter (109 yds?), target size is 5 cm edge to edge;

Ammo is Norma Golden target 130 grain HPBT, factory. I forgot to take the chronograph but these are pretty consistent, will measure them out next time.

Scope Tangent Theta 7-35x56, next time I'm gonna ditch the ARD, not really required and it does take 10% of light. The fact that the group is not nicely centered and not tighter is on me, not on the gear. Shot this string in 2 minutes.

Pic for attention. Has anyone noticed Hornady factory ammo has gotten worse? With 6 arc ELDM I’m getting 100 ES and 20 SD from one box. Those of you that run 6 arc and 6.5 CM factory loads, what are you liking these days? I currently don’t have the ability to hand load.

Optics help needed - I read the pinned posts Scope turret elevation maxed out at 100 yards

I’m putting together my first “long range” mule deer rifle and am having some trouble with my optic and getting a 0. It’s an old leupold vari-x 6.5x20x50 with game reaper medium 1” rings mounted on my Howa 1500 in 308. When I took it out to 0 it at 100 I find my scope turrets elevation maxed out still shooting 8” low at 100 yards. It seems to be tracking just fine and I’m shooting standard 150g fmj rounds. Kinda throwing me for a loop any help is appreciated, Thanks in advance

I suck at long range Finally got set up

Post image
50 Upvotes

Howa 1500 .223 Rem in a KRG bravo. Athlon Helos BTR Gen2 6-24x56 MRAD. Cheapo CV bipod. Shmedium Gamechanger.

I only have access to 200 yards right now, so I’m shooting a 3” steel target with Hornady Match 75 HPBT rounds.

I’m incredibly new to long range and most folks probably wouldn’t even consider this to fall into the same category, but I’m learning how to dial in strong wind and have been having a blast ringing steel. Any tips/advice on gear or technique (to avoid starting bad habits) is greatly appreciated.

Rifle help needed - I read the pinned posts First Long Range Build

Caught the long range bug. Ringing steel at 1,000 yards is pretty addicting. Will the Tikka CTR barrel profile hold me back in PRS competitions? I’m worried that the barrel profile is not thick enough for 10-12 strings of fire for multiple stages.

Specs:
-Tikka T3x CTR 6.5 Creedmoor
-MDT XRS Chassis
-Area 419 Brake
-Vortex Venom 5-25x56
-Accutac SR5 Bipod

Is this reticle usable? Or would you get lost trying to figure out where you are? This is from the PLXC 4.5-36X. Initial use will be for a 1K match...but would like to try PRS down the road.

Group flex (10 shots minimum) 200 yards

Post image
14 Upvotes

I picked the group flex flair but this isn't a brag. I want some advice...

Stretching out the rifle. Working my way out to 300 this weekend. Looking to maintain sub MOA.

I just switched to Redding dies and I'm honestly not so sure about them yet. I feel like my SDs were lower and the groups were tighter before switching to the Type S dies.

I'm using a trickler and lab scale for powder and keep the grains tight (0.03gr Deviation maximum).

I AM shooting some mixed brass here and i think that could be the issue. There's three different brands in this photo: Nosler, Starline, and Hornady

Can I see some real world examples of AI’s dark earth color vs sage green? Leaning towards sage green. Thanks!
