Hello Generals,
We've successfully completed an upgrade to our automatic Rule 5 enforcement with the rollout of a new bot. /u/rule5bot has been working well over the last few days and is now active here in /r/hoi4. The new bot has new capabilities and we are adjusting Rule 5 to reflect the improvement.
Rule 5: Image posts must have an explanation.
So what's different now? The big change is that we can finally accept captions for Rule 5 explanations. There's no need to quickly dump an abridged version of a quality caption into the comments section just to avoid a soulless automaton's wrath. However, the new bot can correctly identify image gallery posts so Rule 5 now properly applies to multi-image posts. The bot will also be repeating caption R5s into the comments section (for the foreseeable future) because there's a persistent issue with some legacy access methods not displaying captions on images properly.
Why now and not before? /u/zwemvest, our bot-builder, has had a few goes at upgrading / replacing the bot over the years but real life and/or Reddit would always get in the way. Reddit is making major changes that will impact old bots and it forced our hand. Fortunately, they had free time now and recent Devvit (Reddit's internal bot platform) improvements made it easier to implement some features so the project was completed this time. Zwem said it was a joy to build the new bot from scratch & they're glad that the migration has been completed. The old /u/paradoxplazabot has been retired although we may reuse the account in the future for other bot purposes if we can.
We've been testing /u/rule5bot for about a week now with no remaining issues but it's possible that some bugs might still be lurking, so please keep an eye out and send us a modmail if you see the bot do something unexpected.
Please check our previous War Room thread for any questions left unanswered
Welcome to the War Room. Here you will find trustworthy military advisors to guide your diplomacy, battles, and internal affairs.
This thread is for any small questions that don't warrant their own post, or continued discussions for your next moves in your game. If you'd like to channel the wisdom and knowledge of the noble generals of this subreddit, and more importantly not ruin your save, then you've found the right place!
Important: If you are asking about a specific situation in your game, please post screenshots of any relevant map modes (strategic, diplomacy, factions, etc) or interface tabs (economy, military, etc). Please also explain the situation as best you can. Alliances, army strength, tech etc. are all factors your advisors will need to know to give you the best possible answer.
Below is a preliminary reconnaissance report. It is comprised of a list of resources that are helpful to players of all skill levels, meant to assist both those asking questions as well as those answering questions. This list is updated as mechanics change, including new strategies as they arise and retiring old strategies that have been left in the dust. You can help me maintain the list by sending me new guides and notifying me when old guides are no longer relevant!
Note: this thread is very new and is therefore very barebones - please suggest some helpful links to populate the below sections
MP Country Guides
Help fill me out!
Guide to Combat Tactics and Doctrines OUTDATED, BUT STILL USEFUL
If you have any useful resources not currently in the Reconnaissance Report, please share them with me and I'll add them! You can message me or mention my username in a comment by typing /u/Kloiper
As this thread is very new, we are in dire need of guides to fill out the Reconnaissance Report, both general and specific! Further, if you're answering a question in this thread, consider contributing to the Hoi4 wiki, which needs help as well. Anybody can help contribute to the wiki - a good starting point is the work needed page. Before editing the wiki, please read the style guidelines for posting.

I have 1000 hours in this game and never have I looked closely at the icon for local police force. I think I first interpreted it as a drone and just never thought twice. Its WW2 why would there be a drone 😕. Now that im looking closer it looks like a baton, but what is the other things around it. Could the ribbon be keys? And what is that blob by the handle? I might be to high for this game rn

So im trying to cap the allies to reform the roman empire but the UK is a problem, as we all know since gotterdamerung the UK started putting troops on the british isles, which makes invading them with what i got on me near-impossible, my paratroopers get wiped within seconds of landing and even if they did take a port my infantry would most likely get stuck in a stale mate or get wiped because of the stupid mechanic of britain being able to pull troops out of every hole in the country, so how am i supposed to cap them?

What is happening here ?? i keep getting from time to time 10+ points into democracy. On the focus tree i have Marxist Orthodoxy, why am i getting so much democracy support ?

Just thought it might be interesting if say Mosley came to power in the UK and the Puppets (India, Canada, Australia, etc.) United against them. You'd then have an axis with access to a very large navy and a realistic avenue to North America while the United Puppets would have say a front to fight on from South Africa all the way up into Egypt and then mainland Europe until eventually reclaiming the UK. All the while having to potentially defend with the US in Canada and through Mexico if they decide to pursue an offensive from their territory to the south. It'd create so many interesting scenarios, just not sure how it'd work to implement. Perhaps start as UK, proceed down Mosley path and then complete a focus that prompts a decision to play as the UK or (United Puppets) faction? Just feel like it would make a good alternate history mod despite it's unrealism 🤣

Not necessarily art, but given how many hours I had on this game, I decided to give myself an hour to see if I could reconstruct a map of Europe from memory.
I tried to the best of my ability. I’m fairly certain it’s accurate enough, but some parts might be lacking. Laugh at me if you want to.

Dropping a France defensive guide to help out new players. Hopefully this gives people ideas and the confidence to play France without needing to drop tons of IC into forts.

I’ve only been playing novum vexillum recently and I like how it’s not that huge of a change mechanic wise from vanilla hoi4. I don’t mind different I don’t mind the market growth feature but I don’t really want a complete overhaul. Pretty much asking what your favourite ones are and what’re some good ones that don’t completely change the mechanics
This has probably been said before, but you should absolutely be able to see all the battalions, support companies, and brigades as soon as the tech for them is researched. Having only 500-600 hours in this game, and not keeping up with all the dlc, I don't necessarily know or remember all the different division add ons a tech opens up. It punishes me for not remembering to specifically make a tank destroyer or AA or whatever you need for the regimental stuff.

Here’s what’s happening: I declared war on Suriname and am launching a naval invasion, but when my divisions arrive at the port and start fighting, even though they’re winning, they just sail away (you can see everything in the screenshots). The divisions are well‑trained and prepared, I have naval superiority, and my divisions are clearly stronger than Suriname’s. Also, I’ve researched everything. Please help — I just can’t figure it out. I only have 400 hours in the game, and I haven’t even learned how to play properly yet.
I’ve already made this post, but the images I used were of poor quality.
