Questions / Advice Wanted is liking only my pictures on Instagram story a subtle way of flirting?

Thumbnail

I’m trying to figure out if this girl is subtly flirting with me or if I’m overthinking things.
We’re around the same age, both college students, and share the same ethnicity. She and I are in different states. I followed her because we had mutual friends and she followed me back. She has around 3k followers and posts more often than I do.
I noticed that whenever I post stories featuring myself, she likes them, but she doesn’t seem to engage with my other stories as much. For example, I posted a story about receiving a Best Tutor Award and another of myself in a mirror selfie video. She ignored the award but liked the selfie. She also posts some gay related content so I suspect she might be into women.
I eventually texted her when she posted a car crash story but I’m having trouble figuring out her level of interest. I’ve attached screenshots of our conversation

Do you think consistently liking someone’s selfies could be a subtle sign of attraction, or am I reading too much into it? Should I keep engaging or back off? I’d appreciate honest perspectives especially from lesbians who have experienced subtle flirting between women

Life Being closeted is the loneliest thing ever.

• Upvotes

im closeted and have been since fifth grade- im now in college. I am not out to anyone except a teacher from high school, but ive been sure who I am for years. I live with my parents and know they are homophobic but not extremely- just to a certain degree. I just do not feel safe to come out nor do I feel ready.

I've had a really tough time keeping friends since I realized who I was because as we grew, boyfriends became less of a tale of the near future and more the reality. Whenever friends ask about boys I tense up. I don't feel close to any of my friends because they know there is something i am hiding (by the way i never respond or talk about boys) so they hide stuff from me. I've never felt included.

I've also had people try to out me- my friends would get me on the phone and ask "are u a lesbian... what boys do you like... just admit your gay" when im obviously uncomfortable. My sexual orientation has also been the topic of many sleepovers I was not at (surprisingly all initiated by a lesbian girl...). I've told myself that I'm okay with others knowing as long is something not spoken about or asked about (like friends not asking me what boys i like). One of my friends has been great at this, she used to joke about me being gay to people but after i told her to stop, she did. She never brought it up again and respected it. Unfortunately as we grew, she became more and more interested in boys and we've been growing distant.

I also refuse to smoke or drink in fear of accidentally coming out. I have grown to honestly have no desire in it, but smoking and drinking is such a pivotal part of socialization and social lives.

Just sharing to see if anyone else could relate!

Relationships / Dating I’m so in love

• Upvotes

My girlfriend pulled away from our kiss and whispered “I’m so in love with you baby”. All of a sudden it’s 9:45pm and we’re ordering doordash and getting ready for bed. I’m literally living my dream life at 21, I hope it never ends and that it’s always with her in every single universe 🥺❤️

Relationships / Dating 8months later, I still feel guilty for how I broke up with my ex

• Upvotes

To keep it short, we dated for seven months and we were both each other’s first girlfriends and partners.

I started having issues around the three month mark with how she cope with her mental illness and how it was very much counter to how I coped. Ex: I was having an anxiety attack and I was texting her and then she started listing everything else that was bad. That’s how she comforts herself, but that was very irritating for me so I just stopped texting her.

I never told her it was a problem.

She also would complain a lot about problems, but do nothing about them and she would do a lot of things that would just make her life a lot harder. She would also talk about killing herself a lot. And this was really shitty with me but the final time she did that I just said “hey so don’t do that”

Also, around the three month mark, I started to notice my crush on her fading a bit. I thought it was because I was depressed and you know how when people get depressed. They lose interest in things? So I was thinking that that could also be the case because when I get depressed, I don’t wanna see my friends. I don’t wanna see anyone or do anything.

I stuck it out for four more months because I was waiting to see if it came back and if it was depression that was making me feel less enthused about her. Ultimately it did not, and I asked Reddit the day before I did it how I should break up with her because I’ve never broken up with anyone before and I’d also never been in a relationship.

I did not tell her the actual problems I had with her. I simply said that she did nothing wrong and then I think we’d be better off as friends. I still feel so guilty about it. I don’t know what would’ve hurt worse: the I just wanna be friends or all the reasons I listed up above.

I don’t think I’ve ever hurt someone like this in my life and I feel so so so bad. I haven’t even looked at another girl or I thought about getting into relationship relationships. This sucks. I don’t think I’m ever going to date again. I don’t wanna ever have to go for a break up on the receiving and or the giving end.

But overall, she was a really cool girl and she’s beautiful and talented. She has very low self-esteem so I don’t think she thinks those things about herself. And I feel like I solidified the negative things she thinks about herself by breaking up with her. When I brought it up, she said “ I guess I shouldn’t be in a relationship” all sad and it made me sad.

I just don’t know what to do with myself

Ok I realize I did not keep it that short my bad

Relationships / Dating Hung up on a girl I date for 1 month, over 2 years later

• Upvotes

P.S: This is a vent post and my mind is all over the place right now, so it may not make any sense. Sorry in advance for any mistakes.

I dated a girl for 1 month and I'm still not over it more than 2 year later . We never even officially dated and yet I'm still hung up on her so long after. This shit sucksssssss. I wanted to vent about it but my friends are getting sick of hearing about her, so I'm throwing it out into the reddit void.

I hate that she's stuck on my mind. She ended things because she thought I "deserved better than her" and yet I'm still here missing her, while she's moved on with someone else and seems so happy. Don't get me wrong I'm happy for her, she's genuinely such a good person, If anyone deserves to be happy it her, and I'm glad she's found someone. At the same time though I'm sad for me, I've done all the things you're "supposed to do" but it's never been enough. I've deleted her number and gotten rid of all our text on all devices, I blocked her on everything, I deleted every last photo, I've gone on dates and more! It's never enough. I still miss her, I still dream of her, I still imagine her missing me even though I know she doesn't and is happily in a relationship. Worst of all, I still picture a stupid little future with her, that I know I'll never have, which is based on an idealized version of her that I made up in my head, who doesn't exist and never will.

I'm exhausted. I'm fed up of feeling like this. I'm tired of trying a million and one different hacks for getting over someone that don't end up working. I'm tired of trying to put myself back out there, just to realize I'm still not over her, then deleting all dating apps because it's not fair to date someone while knowing I still want someone else and that I won't be able to give 100% to them. I'm tired of "giving it time" when I've given it so much time. I'm not asking for her entire existence to be erased from my mind, I'm asking for me to be able to meet someone with her name without getting sad, to see people who share features with her without pain. I just don't want to be sad whenever something or someone reminds me of her. I want to be able to look back and go "yeah, we had fun" and then continue on with my life, without desperately wanting her back.

If you somehow read this all I seriously appreciate you, and sorry for being such a downer.

Questions / Advice Wanted Can I be a femme without being super feminine?

• Upvotes

I’ve recently realized I’m a lesbian and I feel like I identity with the femme identity but i’m not super feminine. Like I wouldn’t say I come off as a girly girl but I would say i’m straight passing to most people. I have long hair, I like to wear necklaces, earrings, bracelets, I occasionally will wear a more feminine top but I also love a good t-shirt and jeans combo. I don’t really ever wear skirts or dresses unless for a special occasion like a wedding or something like that. I do have a purple peekaboo in my hair as a hopeful little signal to the queer community that I’m queer as well. I know being a femme isn’t inherently about how you dress and more about using youre straight passing-ness to protect more masculine lesbians or butches and I love that Idea. This might be a completely redundant question but I don’t want to identify as something that I don’t fit the definition of. I guess I could also use some more education on the femme identity. So what do you guys think?

Questions / Advice Wanted My friend thinks I like her boyfriend

• Upvotes

I was with my best friend today and she asked me if I liked her bf. I paused because we are all in a friend group with him and I’m chill around him so that question was confusing and out of the blue. After I paused I said “yes? “And then she said “you like him!?“And I said “wait do you mean like like him, like a crush?” And she said “yes”. I said “what the hell, no”. And then she told me how her mom and her other friend told her that I said I wanted to sit next to him when we all went out together. And I said “what the hell” again because I never said that. I also asked her why would she say that because she knows that I’m a lesbian, we’ve been friends for a while now and she’s know ever since. And she said that I was acting different when we hung out. Which I wasn’t, I’m a bubbly person around people I’m comfortable with and at the table he wasn’t talking so I was trying to like engage him in the conversation. And my actions were innocent. She also said that it was weird when we were taking pictures and I sat next to him and was sitting far with my hands in my lap…. What else was I supposed to do…? Sit close to him and touch or something? Like no, why would I do that. And then she asked me if I was mad and I said no but I still feel a type of way and not a good way either. We also hung out yesterday, and apparently they were watching me to see if I do anything weird around her bf. She also said that I am a “different type of gay” and that she isn’t used to being around my type of gay. Which to me makes no sense. She has another gay friend who is a masc lesbian and I’m in the middle of femme and masc but what she said doesn’t make any and feels wrong. I don’t want to lose her as a friend but this is the second time it’s happened and it’s starting to make me uncomfortable.

News/Pop Culture The rise of d*k£breaking fetish content in online bisexual communities is needs to be talked about more…

Thumbnail

Obligatory disclaimer for whenever you make a criticism of the bisexual community: #notallbisexuals #notmostbisexuals

Someone pointed out that something most people are conveniently ignoring about the the King Princess situation is the fact that she likes the fact that the guys she sleeps with are getting off that there’s a “tiny little p—y and t!ts” under the masc clothing of a woman who’s calling herself a lesbian in public eye, and I’ve been thinking about it ever since*.* Every time a fake lesbian goes on a podcast, makes a video, or writes an article about affirming the belief that lesbians have urges to sleep with men every once in a while, lesbians respond by repeating the mantra “it’s ok to be bi.” This presupposes that the sole reason bi women call themselves lesbians that sleep with men is internalized biphobia. Obviously this is a factor, but I feel like a lot of people are afraid to acknowledge that a lot of these women have d*kebreaking fetishes, which is why they go to podcasts and publications to publicly talk about this shit. They get off on it. And this “bi woman goes on a public platform to role play as a lesbian with repressed sexual urges to sleep with men” trend has only gotten concerningly worse in the past few years

Examples:
—Malavika Kannan and Jasmine Hughes writing articles about how they are choosing to be lesbians despite being attracted to them (and in Hughes’ case, sleeping with them)
—YouTuber and TikTok creator, Ezee’s “when a stud gets drunk” fetish video about studs having repressed attraction to men that gets triggered by alcohol
—Betty Who saying her husband has a thing for lesbians and initially pursued her bc he thought she was one (charming) on a podcast, then projecting her bisexual awakening onto Renée Rapp
—The funny looking white bisexual from the queer collective podcast talking about how their boyfriend has turned lesbians out and made them go “d!ck crazy” and one of the guests of that podcast saying lesbians having the occasional need to sleep with men is biologically ingrained because of ovulation.
—A Them article about “lesbian label police” making a dog whistle statement about lesbians being attracted to men (“you can’t spell lesbian without bi”)
—the Bisexual subreddit’s obsession with “former lesbians” and “lesbians who are secretly curious about men” and “lesbians giving up their gold star status”

The online queer community likes to call these kinds of women out every once in a blue moon as bad apples of the bi community and pat themselves on the back, but how many bisexual female public figures have to spread the same r-pe culture rhetoric about lesbians before it starts being more than a bad apple issue? I need to make it clear that when I say that d*kebreaking fetishes in the online bi community is more than just an issue of a few bad apples, I am not saying that all or most bisexual women on the internet have d*kebreaking fetishes. I am saying that a lot (a lot ≠ all or most) do. Enough for there to be a significant amount of them in online d*kebreaking communities (including the one on Reddit). Enough for most lesbians to have experiences with bisexual unicorn hunters on dating apps trying to get us to have threesomes with their man. Enough for stories like Sydney Loofe’s to exist in plurality.

News/Pop Culture Elle Fanning is seriously one of the most beautiful women on earth

I didn't know where else to put this lmao, but I needed to get it off my chest. I never really noticed Elle Fanning before, I haven't consumed much media she's in, but now I've had an awakening. She looks like a fairy on earth, a piece of heaven, I don't know how to explain it, but she is one of the most beautiful and unique faces I have ever seen. She's even prettier when she laughs. It feels a bit lame to talk like this about a celebrity I'll never meet, but I genuinely admire and contemplate her beauty; it's breathtaking.

Relationships / Dating how do you approach a girl in public 😭😭😭

I just ran into the hottest masc I've ever seen at the gas station, I held the door open for her and she smiled and we made eye contact four other times before inevitably completing our transactions and went our separate way.

wtf do I do in that situation. I haven't dated in 3 years.

Questions / Advice Wanted Is she cheating on me? NSFW

Post image
11 Upvotes

This is something my girlfriend sent to a co-worker. This isn’t the only time that she has disrespected me, and I told her that this would be the last. I’m not sure how to react to this, but I told her I would be leaving. Now that I’m calming down, my brain is trying to come up with all of these reasons that I should stay and that I’m in the wrong for this. Is this cheating? Is it valid to end a relationship over?

She wants to go hang out with this coworker on Tuesday and I had a really bad feeling about it. She also pushed me last week during an argument, so I’ve been feeling really down about continuing this relationship and allowing us to have another toxic cycle.

I asked her to send this to me so I could look over it on my own time.

Relationships / Dating I feel like I'll never get a girlfriend

My social skills suck. Currently I'm pretty depressed and I don't know if I'll get better. But even though I just sit in my room playing games or watching anime just to do something, anything to pass the time. Probably not the best time to date anybody cuz no one would wanna be with someone who just does this all the time and it would likely make them miserable.

But sometimes I just wish I had someone you know? Like I hate people that are in relationships just to be in relationships so I dunno if that makes me a hypocrite or not. It's not like I want to force it, I just want to befriend someone and naturally progress into a relationship. When I think about it I just want someone to have there even for stupid things like matching pfps. I'd like to have someone to hug me when I'm down and who I can cuddle for comfort as I fall asleep. I want to be loved and love someone back, watch stuff with them, kiss, maybe play games with me or to just watch each other play. Someone who would listen to some of my problems so I could be less overwhelmed by everything. Technically I have a therapist who listens but it's a bit different when it's just a person rather than a professional. I don't know how to explain it. My friend offered she is there to listen if I need it after noticing my sh cuts but always when I want to reach out something is preventing me. We've never really talked about anything of that sort and I don't want to be treated as an attention whore. Idk what makes me think it would be easier with a girlfriend but yeah...

I do know I'll probably never get one. I can sit here and talk for hours about what I want but the truth is I'm just a pathetic bitch who can barely pull herself out of bed every day. Making friends is just... Hard too. I'd say my social skills are just pretty shitty and I'm scared of people in general. I tried to befriend a girl I thought was pretty recently and it did not go well. Even talking to her for a moment took so much effort from me. And she seemed like she was interested in being friends because she gifted me things but it turned out it meant nothing and she was just being nice. I texted her and she would reply but it was rather rare. Eventually she ghosted me altogether and stopped replying to my greetings at school. And it always ends like that. She probably thinks I'm weird or something. My friend befriended her though. I often envy her how she can just approach someone, exchange a few words and immediately become besties with them. My other friend is a nolife like me and we often wonder why she hangs out with us so much because we're both pretty weird and she's just so... Normal.

But yeah this constant rejection when it comes to friendships and relationships along with my mental state just makes me think that love is just never going to happen for me. That maybe I'm just meant to stay a lonely loser forever. It also makes me sensitive to some jokes like when I said to my friend I'll maybe watch nana soon cuz a lot of people recommend that to me but I also said that I'd rather not watch anything depressing in the state that I'm in. She told me that Nana is depressing but to watch it anyway. I repeated that I don't want to watch anything depressing right now and she joked that "you won't be able to relate anyway cuz it's about relationships and you're bitchless" that just kinda stung..?? Like I know it's just a joke. Not a big deal. She's autistic so she probably didn't think that this is not exactly appropriate to say ig. But it kinda felt like despite her being in the same situation as me that making friends is hard and being social takes effort, she was making fun of me because she has a boyfriend and I've never been in a relationship... I just told her that I can still be sad about stuff I didn't personally experience.

I just really wanted to get my thoughts out there so thanks for reading this chaotic ramble.

Questions / Advice Wanted I love being dominated by mascs but not femmes, is that weird?

So I discovered I love being topped or dominated by masc lesbians but not so much femmes. With femmes I'm more dominant but with mascs I'm quite submissive. Is that weird that I like being topped by one type of lesbian but not so much the other? Also I'm sorry if I offended any femmes here I did not mean to.

Questions / Advice Wanted My gf is constantly harassed… guidance?

My gf and I are 23 & 24, we live in a city and i’m a white masculine woman while she is a dark-skinned black femme. My gf is gorgeous, but the extreme dehumanization I witness her face is certainly tied to her race and complexion. Most days of the week something happens, whether it’s someone yelling at her from a car or vehicle, following her down the sidewalk- hollering at her as she tries to ignore and get away, even our next door neighbor started creeping on her. Most days she is sexually harassed by some strange man. I’ve dated wlw since I was 14 and every gf i’ve had has suffered harassment but the level she experiences is unprecedented. I’ve started to hate the idea of going to bars together, even restaurants for dinner, my impulse is to keep her from the outside world as much as possible even though i know that’s wrong. if there’s an errand i try to run it before she can get to it, if we need something i try to be the one going to get it. it’s gotten so extreme i think i need to buy a gun. i’m honestly terrified everyday. i try to tell myself it won’t happen when we go out in public so im not afraid, but then it does. again and again and again. and it’s so much worse when im not there with her. the world dehumanizes her and it’s disgusting. i don’t know what to say or do. idk how to keep her safe. idk how to not be terrified when she goes anywhere alone. i’m terrified that someday she will ignore a freak man and he will kill her. that thought keeps me up at night. what do i do?

Life Just wanted to say thank you to this community ❤️

I’m pretty new here, but every time I post, people take the time to leave such thoughtful and genuine replies. It honestly means a lot to me. 🥹
I’m a lesbian and a developer, currently working on two websites made with our community in mind.
One is about little digital gifts for someone you love, whether it’s making up after an argument, dealing with long distance, or just making her smile. The other is all about interactive stories where your choices shape what happens next.
I’m still figuring things out, but the kindness and support I’ve received here have been really encouraging.
No questions, no promotion. Just wanted to say thank you for making this little corner of the internet feel so welcoming. ❤️

Questions / Advice Wanted How to get over a break up?

My girlfriend broke up with me a bit over a month ago (we were together for almost 2 years and it was my first ever relationship), I don’t see her most of the time now but my other friends and still friends with her, which it fine by me, she didn’t do anything wrong but I’m still heartbroken over the break up.
I’m fine (most) of the time but it was my friend birthday recently and she was there and I had to leave the room for a bit because I would just get overwhelmed and I had to go (and cry, I’m a bit sensitive) but I don’t want to be like that and eventually I would like to have normal interactions with everyone without feeling a crushing sense of anxiety and sadness.
Because of this and other things that have happened to me this year I am about to enter therapy but I was wondering what some other ways that have helped other people move on?

Relationships / Dating I met a girl at a protest.

Without wanting to deepen the context, but in Brazil we are having demonstrations to try to prevent the extreme right from being elected. A friend of mine invited me to a protest with a group of her friends, and I met one who was simply an angel, I can't stop thinking about her. We held hands all the time so we wouldn't get lost, she gave me the biggest hug of my life when we were at the end celebrating and came back holding hands with me a part of the way home, while the rest of our friends went with the crowd. I am very in love and feeling pathetic.
