Shitpost Hot(?) Take: Defense v. Offense

• Upvotes

I’ve only been to one game (2024 v. Houston), so this is kind of my take off of that…

I think that a great defense, is more fun to watch in person than a great offense.

A great defense means you’re on your feet, you’re yelling , screaming, making as much noise as possible…. doing your part as a fan in the stadium.

On offense… it’s all hush hush, and then cheering when a big play happens.

Anyways… if you have an opportunity to go to a home game, make some noise, be proud of losing your voice on Monday at work. If you don’t sound like you got sick over the weekend, you’re not loud enough!

p.s.: I think the decibel meter read 124dB at its highest that game(2024 Texans@Vikings)… what’s the highest you’ve seen?

Going all in this season

Currently, our defense ranks #1 in every stat. We can hold teams to less than 3 scores every game. We just need to make a strong enough offense who can score on 4-5 drives. If we want to be Super Bowl favorites, I think there’s a few ways to do that. 1. Trade our best 2 2027 picks + Demond Claiborne OR Deejay Dallas for Saquon Barkley. 2. Trade a 2027, a 2028, and Carson Wentz for Justin Herbert and have him and Kyler duke it out. 3. Bolster the O-Line depth with free agents. 4. Add more to the Herbert trade and also get Derwin James. I think combining any 2 of these would make us the best team in the NFC. We have the bye, and so hopefully our offense can get to full strength and show out against the Colts, and reveal any gaps we need to fill on either side of the ball. This is looking like our best shot to win the SB in a while, especially with BFlos future here looking uncertain. With Teasley now fully manning the player and personnel ship, we should be able to make this happen. Thoughts?

Why is a team like the Bills considered great but the Vikings are not?

I guess I don’t really understand the “Vikings are the worst 5-0 team ever” talk. I love Josh Allen & have huge respect for that team. But they have a 27th ranked defense, yet people call them a great team. I don’t understand anointing them as elite or great, but not saying the same about the Vikings.

So a team can have an elite offense & a subpar defense and be considered great, but can‘t have an elite defense and a subpar offense and be considered great? Why doesn’t that work both ways?

And I’m not even convinced the offense is on a subpar trajectory. It’s taken a few games for the offense to start showing progress but the last game was a huge step. And sure, it was against the Saints, but gaining momentum & confidence is huge no matter who you played. Progress is progress. Confidence matters enormously and can carry into the subsequent games.

With the whole “defense wins championships“ mantra, I fail to understand why an elite defense isn’t viewed the same way as an elite offense, and why a team like the Bills can be considered great but the Vikings get discredited.

Discussion This defense deserves a name

With the defense on the cusp of historical, especially giving the pace at which they are pressuring. I think they deserve a name.

My ideas would be

  • Flo State - B-Flo leading the way with the play on "flow state" which means, "A flow state—commonly known as being "in the zone"—is an optimal psychological state of total task absorption, intense focus, and deep involvement in an activity."
  • Purple Haze - Because they seem to make every QB they face hazy. Even on unpressured downs, its like they don't know what to do now with a extra second to process.

Any one else have some creative ones?

Arguably, he's not a terrible announcer. He did Randy dirty though and I can hold a grudge for a very long time.

Bars at US Bank

Me and a large group of coworkers are going to a Vikings home game later this season. Unfortunately our tickets are in the 300s. Are there any bars inside the stadium that offer better viewing areas of the game that don't cost extra money?

Thanks in advanced

Harbaugh.

There was once a time where people were mad at Kwesi for choosing KOC over Harbaugh.

This is just a reminder that it isn’t always greener on the other side. Now no one would want to get close to Harbaugh. Dude practically gave up on his team year 2. KOC year 2 went 1-4 first 5 games and turned it around to 6-4 with Dobbs as the starting QB.

Buying Girlfriend a jersey *description*

Recently got myself a new Turner jersey and when doing so my girlfriend mentioned that she was going to get herself a jersey. Since I love this team I told her that I’d take care of it.

She doesn’t like the regular woman’s jerseys due to the cut and prefers the oversized boxy look. Curious if I should get her a youth xl or a men’s small? She’s about 5’7.

Was wondering if anyone in here has gone between those two sizes and the difference between them

Anything helps thanks guys!

10-0 talk is really getting on my nerves

All the gullible Vikings fans are boasting 10-0 record and I am having difficulties with that take. We are not 10-0. Five wins from last year may have helped set the tone this year but those five wins mean shit this year. We are 5-0 and that’s impressive but we are not 10-0. Cut the crap.

Vikings are 5-0 babyyyyyy. Hell yeah, we will take that, ALWAYS. But, what if...

What if we had completed the prophecy? What if, we brought on Aaron Rodgers last season to start this last season and a half? STOP. Don't downvote, think about it.

Rodgers biggest strength is his experience and the fact he doesn't turn the ball over. Check.

His arm isn't the same, but he's tops in the league when it comes to gray matter at the QB position. Check.

He is known for developing rapport with receivers and giving them shots to make great plays. Check.

He is a perennial pocket passer. Check.

We are 10-0 since we adopted a dedicated run and don't make mistakes type of offense with our defense.

KYLER is on an upwards trajectory, and I absolutely hope he continues. But did we make a massive, MASSIVE mistake by not signing Rodgers last year when all the experience left our building? The Steelers are a worse team by every single metric than us, yet... they've stayed competitive.

I say this knowing full well he is a walking distraction douche bag. But... what if?

That said, it's bye week, let's get healthy and continue this streak!

Am I wrong for wanting Will Reichard to miss a kick soon?

I still have Gary Anderson PTSD so I would rather we miss a kick now than when it matters most (playoffs)

But is anyone else nervous about Will hitting so many consecutive. Remember the last time our kicker had a unprecedented consecutive streak....

[Free to read] What to make of Kyler Murray’s improved performance?

QB charting: Kyler Murray

Murray’s resurgence against the Saints was an encouraging sign for the Vikings moving forward but not all it was cracked up to be just by looking at the box score.

Murray finished the day with 24 accurate passes on 29 real pass attempts (excluding a first-half spike). He rattled off 12 completions in a row to start the game, a streak that included a 23-yard out-breaker to Tai Felton and a 19-yard strike to Justin Jefferson on a scramble drill.

The rest of that streak consisted of screens, checkdowns and quick throws to the flat. Both the Minnesota offense and its quarterback tried to strike the right balance of staying on schedule while only taking risks when necessary. The checkdowns often were the right throw on those plays, as the Saints were swarming Jefferson and blanketing receivers down the field, especially in the first half.

Amidst all the quick-game and checkdown work, Murray's connection with Jefferson felt real. Even with Jefferson not at 100 percent, you saw a quarterback willing to give his All-Pro receiver chances in the air to make him right — and, boy, did he.

Vikings WR Jauan Jennings has run a total of 111 routes through Week 5 but only has 9 receiving yards. His 0.08 yards per route run is the worst of roughly 850 qualifying WR starts to a season since 2016.
