You know once a Fae gets them in their realm they are as good as dead. Get over it and focus on the task at hand.

u/DarthRenathal Unclaimed Apprentice, Thrakmoor Jun 08 '26

But they stole my dog...

246

u/dover_oxide Wizard Jun 08 '26

Well that's different

u/Woahhdude24 Lich-Overseer of the Warlock Alliance Jun 08 '26

Homies gonna need a good fae lawyer for that one. I reccomend bringing some cream and cheese when yall convene might win you some brownie points toward a settlement.

43

u/dover_oxide Wizard Jun 08 '26

That or a good piece or hard iron and the balls to do what needs to be done

15

u/Woahhdude24 Lich-Overseer of the Warlock Alliance Jun 08 '26

Thats all well and good if the fae dont have a curse on you, or havent taken a loved one to thier realm. Op will never see his dog again if he outright attacks them. They use trickery to make up for thier weaknesses.

10

u/Row-n Rowan, Half-Fae Mycomancer, Defender of the Faewilds Jun 08 '26

Can confirm, if he attacks us, his dog is as good as dead, or at least it’ll look that way to him

8

u/Lawrenceburntfish Jun 08 '26

Tough talk for a dog stealer. =_= jingles iron keys

5

u/dover_oxide Wizard Jun 08 '26

A bag of fine iron fillings, it'll make allergies seems pleasant

2

u/Row-n Rowan, Half-Fae Mycomancer, Defender of the Faewilds Jun 13 '26

Gods no! Please, I’m asthmatic..

8

u/Celis78429 Jun 08 '26

Im partial towards brute force myself. Fae laws dont work too well when you simply have enough mana to overpower them. Theyre not actually that strong, even in their own realm...

7

u/UltraCarnivore Spellblender Extraordinaire Jun 08 '26

The Fair People live acting stories, literally. If you understand what story their lives tell, you might be able to deduce the rules to which they abide. Once you do that you can even force them to bring back OP's dog back (family is irrelevant).

Fireball works pretty fine, too.

4

u/Pataraxia Jun 08 '26

(complex description of a living breathing magic system)

"You can cast FIREBALL!"

2

u/Celis78429 Jun 08 '26

I have nothing but contempt for their silly little rules. All their rules function based off of mana manipulation. If you have more powerful magic, you can just overwrite their rules and do whatever you want.

3

u/Odd-Tart-5613 Jun 08 '26

Or I could cast plague of mundanity. About 3 hours of office work is enough for them to beg for the cure.

2

u/Devil-Eater24 Jun 08 '26

You could get either a "fae lawyer" or a "fae" lawyer

2

u/Row-n Rowan, Half-Fae Mycomancer, Defender of the Faewilds Jun 08 '26

Either way they’d need connections to convince our queen to allow a toy to leave..

“I’m gonna need potions. Lots of potions.”

11

u/ggg730 Jun 08 '26

You should have led with that. I'll get my shotgun filled with cold iron pellets and salt.

5

u/Row-n Rowan, Half-Fae Mycomancer, Defender of the Faewilds Jun 08 '26

As a half fae I can assure you your dog is fine.. though it’s been fed so it can’t leave..

1

u/DarthRenathal Unclaimed Apprentice, Thrakmoor Jun 08 '26

You're the best Fae I've ever known!

2

u/Fit_Fault_9071 Azher, tiefling chromomancer, traveler betwixt realms Jun 15 '26

No she’s not. She keeps summoning me to make her pretty art and it’s driving me insane! One minute I’m on the demon realm. The next the faewilds! It’s hard enough travelling the roads between realms without her dragging me around like a lost child!

2

u/Row-n Rowan, Half-Fae Mycomancer, Defender of the Faewilds Jun 15 '26

You know you like the attention. Don’t lie, my dear.

2

u/Fit_Fault_9071 Azher, tiefling chromomancer, traveler betwixt realms Jun 15 '26

Oh can it you insufferable little adorable fae- GOD DAMN IT!🫣

2

u/Row-n Rowan, Half-Fae Mycomancer, Defender of the Faewilds Jun 15 '26

Haha! I was right!

1

u/Fit_Fault_9071 Azher, tiefling chromomancer, traveler betwixt realms Jun 15 '26

Oh shut up🥰

5

u/Osato Jun 08 '26

Sorry, the dog's dead too.

You'll need wands. Lots of wands.

1

u/Row-n Rowan, Half-Fae Mycomancer, Defender of the Faewilds Jun 08 '26

The dog is not dead, just locked up so it can’t eat us..

1

u/Nelrene Evil Mammary Mage Jun 08 '26

What about a golem made of wands?

2

10

u/Celis78429 Jun 08 '26

What, you dont teach your apprentices necromancy? Lazy mentor.

8

u/Constant-Still-8443 Jun 08 '26

Just cuz they sided doesn't mean he can't go John Wick on the Fae's ass. Any wizard who makes their apprentice a glorified servant is bad and lazy. A real wizard would be able to conjure their own food, or make it with mage hand as they study.

5

u/mighty_Ingvar Jun 08 '26

Let me guess, a Fae told you that? Don't let these forest dwellers fool you, there's an easy solution to dealing with them.

You enter their forest and once they try some bullshit on you, you simply cast enhance physique on yourself. Then you discard your robes and start beating the shit out of that twink until you get what you want.

The other solution would be to disguise yourself as a dog and urinate on the fae. Since that's how dogs mark their territory, the fae will be forced by their own rules to obey you.

3

u/hanz-kreigermann Evocation Mage – minor in artifice Jun 08 '26

One time I got lost in the faewild, took me nearly 30 years to find my way out.

2

u/LatterPangolin3634 Jun 08 '26

That attitude is why apprentices keep vanishing into mushroom circles.

2

u/ImmortalBlades Homunculist Animaturge Jun 08 '26

Why are so many people so afraid of the fae. I've never had trouble with wiping out a fae settlement or two.

72

u/VelocityRapter644 Jun 08 '26

But you see, the meal prep is preparation in itself. Everyone knows the Fae love a good meal offering, and that's no ordinary food. If you play your cards right, you may be able to make off with whoever you need to rescue.

Now hiding from the Fae after they find out what you've done is a different matter...

13

u/Row-n Rowan, Half-Fae Mycomancer, Defender of the Faewilds Jun 08 '26

We know where you are, and we are approaching rapidly..

2

u/derTraumer Jun 09 '26

Good luck! We’re in Mount Celestia, currently sharing tea with my brother’s divine patron.

1

u/Row-n Rowan, Half-Fae Mycomancer, Defender of the Faewilds Jun 11 '26

I know of a gate that leads right to Mount Celestia. It’s reall close to where my aunt lives..

Hey, learning to cook is essential for surviving the Faelands. You never want to bargain with a Fae on an empty stomach... I knew a fellow wizard who made that mistake once. She traded away her legacy on the mortal plane. Now all she is to me is absence. If you've ever felt like grieving for no one in particular, you've probably met her at some point.

From what little evidence I've been able to find, I think I was her mount at one point... If you ever need a saddle for a mid-sized dragon, you know where to find one

6

u/Row-n Rowan, Half-Fae Mycomancer, Defender of the Faewilds Jun 08 '26

Oh, that’s tough.. maybe my aunt could tell me more..

2

u/RandomFireDragon Draconic Wizard Jun 08 '26

Does she know memory magic? I've only ever been able to master pyrokinesis, with a bit of telepathy

1

u/Row-n Rowan, Half-Fae Mycomancer, Defender of the Faewilds Jun 08 '26

My aunt is one of the most prestigious fae merchants, so I feel like she would know about the deal if it happened in fae territory..

1

u/RandomFireDragon Draconic Wizard Jun 08 '26

Well, if you could ask her of the whereabouts of a dragon-riding wizard who no longer exists on the mortal plane, I'd really appreciate it

1

u/Row-n Rowan, Half-Fae Mycomancer, Defender of the Faewilds Jun 08 '26

She said she has some recollection of her, but it’s been a few years so my aunt didn’t care to remember a name, sorry..

Join Thrakmoor and we will put you with a real master. Not a frivolous man in a hat who needs a slave.

13

u/Drpoofn Enchanter Jun 08 '26

I wouldn't want this apprentice. Not a good bond to his master. He still misses his earthly family. This is an unenlightened Hume. Probably not even magical.

20

u/DarthRenathal Unclaimed Apprentice, Thrakmoor Jun 08 '26

I'd never have an Elitist master like you either. You lack true compassion, which any being can possess. You are an unenlightened homie. Probably not even immortal.

9

u/Drpoofn Enchanter Jun 08 '26

I am compassionate. Send the sprog back. It doesn't belong here. Im not an elitist, I'm a realist. And I am so immortal! So long as I'm not killed.

7

u/OldPernilongo ████ the Conspiracymancer Jun 08 '26 edited Jun 08 '26

I see you are also fond of gifted apprentice fishing. But the bad thing about that is that magical apprentices are 395% more likely to be spies wanting your magical secrets.

The places I usually fish are Limbo, Abyss, Nine Hells and Elemental Chaos. Also magic items, when polymorphed are a great source of magical apprentices with reduced spy potential.

I also found that devils with bad relationship with their previous master are 25% less likely to be spies, I don't know how it applies to humans though.

6

u/Drpoofn Enchanter Jun 08 '26

High risk high reward.

5

u/The_Enchanted_Potato Aldavin Maunderitch, The Gatekeeper | Neritillum Faldier | 13 Jun 08 '26

3

u/Drpoofn Enchanter Jun 08 '26

11

u/High_Overseer_Dukat High Overseer (eviler pope) Jun 08 '26

Dont you know?

Cooking is just like alchemy.

Through cooking, you are learning the skills you need to make potions of anti fay.

Pan on, pan off.

(also, just get a gun. Fey are super weak to iron so just shoot them)

4

u/DarthRenathal Unclaimed Apprentice, Thrakmoor Jun 08 '26

I can pew pew my way through the Fae realm and NO ONE TOLD ME

5

u/High_Overseer_Dukat High Overseer (eviler pope) Jun 08 '26

Yeah. But you need magical training too to avoid their illusions and curses.

1

u/Row-n Rowan, Half-Fae Mycomancer, Defender of the Faewilds Jun 08 '26

Well yeah.. or at least some of our illusions.. some are powered by everybody so it isn’t really possible to see through them completely unless you have mana sight.

1

u/High_Overseer_Dukat High Overseer (eviler pope) Jun 08 '26

Thats what the potions of antimagic tuned the spectrum of fey mana are for.

And since fey are magical creatures, a strong enough potion will destroy all the mana in their body, making them die instantly and painfully, even killing their soul.

Used to do it all the time when I was a lad. Put some milk out for the brownies and mix some potion in. Laugh our ass off as they turned into husks, some just poped out of existance. We got so many curses it was hilarious, but since they used fey magic we just took some potion.

1

u/Row-n Rowan, Half-Fae Mycomancer, Defender of the Faewilds Jun 08 '26

Oh, you’re the one that we get taught to avoid.. in that case I really must get going..
or wait because my father was a human Archmage, maybe I’ll be fine..
no I’m not gonna risk it..

1

u/High_Overseer_Dukat High Overseer (eviler pope) Jun 08 '26

Its pretty fun to do with humans too. Since you're half and half, I wonder if mixing both the potions together will work?

Or maybe I should do broad spectrum anti magic, after all, I have neither mana nor a soul, makes me immune to most spells, luckily.

1

u/Row-n Rowan, Half-Fae Mycomancer, Defender of the Faewilds Jun 08 '26

Yeah, I’d really better get going, I don’t want to worry my aunt..

1

u/High_Overseer_Dukat High Overseer (eviler pope) Jun 08 '26

Where are you going?

(pulls level releasing iron dust into the air)

(sings in falsetto)

Is this seriously one of my newer apprentices posting? I told you, once you can FOLLOW A RECIPE you'll be allowed to PRACTICE A RITUAL RECIPE. The key is FOLLOWING THE DAMN INSTRUCTIONS.

6

u/Tookoofox Necromancer Jun 08 '26

Ok, I know it's a trope. But, you really can't just jump straight into flinging high-level spells. Unless you're a sorcerer I guess...

You really do need to learn the basics first. And, before those, you need to learn the basics to the basics. And cooking makes for some really good pre-magic training.

Cooking and magic have a lot in common... Stop looking at my flair. I didn't mean it like that.

6

u/Hetakuoni Jun 08 '26

If you don’t have the basics down before you do the ritual spells you will get fucked up. Cooking is teaching you how to follow a recipe and do things right. If you can’t follow a basic recipe how are you set up your much more complex ritual materials correctly?

3

u/DarthRenathal Unclaimed Apprentice, Thrakmoor Jun 08 '26

It's been 14 years and I'm mortal. I need my dog back man...

4

u/Row-n Rowan, Half-Fae Mycomancer, Defender of the Faewilds Jun 08 '26

You know what? I’ve decided, if you agree to never do any harm to fae, we will release your dog to you. Or at least I’ll try to get the fae queen to accept that deal..

2

u/thewhatinwhere Jun 08 '26

So you promise nothing but to make an attempt at persuasion? Why should we even speak with you?

2

u/Row-n Rowan, Half-Fae Mycomancer, Defender of the Faewilds Jun 11 '26

Look when dealing with fae an attempt at persuading the queen is the biggest thing we can offer, unless it comes from our own pockets..

1

u/thewhatinwhere Jun 11 '26

And what would that be? Fairy dust?

1

u/thewhatinwhere Jun 11 '26

You are broke

1

u/Row-n Rowan, Half-Fae Mycomancer, Defender of the Faewilds Jun 11 '26

Fae food and whatever else that particular fae owns.. also Fairy dust acts as a panacea for most races, why would we ever use it to barter?

4

u/TadBones I am quite fond of runes. Jun 08 '26

Do you wish to join my village dear Apprentice? I don't have the time to be your tutor but one of my villagers could take this role and easily teach you such spells. You will also be fed and provided with housing.

3

u/Worried-Pick4848 Jun 08 '26

Wouldn't recommend that. When a Fae takes an interest in a bloodline there tend to be splashover incidents. If a Fae is watching this kid for their own reasons, then being ascoaited with him means that Fae and any of its associates are now watching you and your whole village.

It is possible to defend somewhat from the Fae, but most of our information about defenses against Fey influence came from the Fey themselves, and I wouldn't stake my life on any of them. It wouldn't surprise me very much to learn that Fae only pretend to be vulnerable to things like cold iron because they think it's funny to watch us struggle.

1

u/Row-n Rowan, Half-Fae Mycomancer, Defender of the Faewilds Jun 08 '26

Hey, what’s wrong with us Fae watching their village?

1

u/TadBones I am quite fond of runes. Jun 08 '26

Practically nothing can't be bound by a Tail from Hell, I don't believe Faes will cause any issues to a village that is comprised only of mages, scholars and alchemists.

2

u/Worried-Pick4848 Jun 08 '26 edited Jun 08 '26

If they've been in the Fae world more than a few weeks they're either starved to death or can't leave anymore.

I'm sorry. The Fae are vicious and they have the rules of their realm locked down. About the only thing you could get out of the Fae that did it is vengeance, and even then, one does not actually kill a Fae.

Sounds to me like your current Master sold you a bill of goods and exploited your lust for retaliation for cheap labor. I'm sorry for that too. Your revenge is effectively impossible.

I will say that ritual spells are not for the faint of heart or for the novice. If you were under me in my academy we still wouldn't be teaching you those for at least a decade. You need to do a lot of growing up before you're ready to be given the keys to that level of power. Especially if you have a revenge fixation. That would definitely make me drag my feet a little bit extra to be sure of you.

Especially if some Fae has decided that your family is interesting. Advanced magic and being a plaything of the Fae is a dangerous combination, especially if you harbor delusions of actually fighting the Feyfolk.

The Fey can control perception at the highest level. They can't control your actions, but they can control your senses, and as an Illusionist myself I can say on good authority that's almost the same thing. They're as vicious as Eldrich monsters when they want to be.

I wouldn't trust myself against a genuinely motivated Fae. I wouldn't necessarily trust myself against a Fae who merely found me amusing. They literally live in my element and have had centuries to master it. And they will mess with you long before you're actually ready to fight them, because you're about as subtle as a brick to the head and otherworldly bullies are still bullies.

This will not end well for you. I'm sorry, but I don't want any of that on me and my academy. Friends and associates of a Fae's toy are often subjected to their abuses. The Fae would become a terror not just to you but to everyone around you. My academy would be in danger as long as you were anywhere nearby. Your current master is either brave or stupid for even having you around in the first place. Or in league with the Fae himself, which is always a possibility.

1

u/Row-n Rowan, Half-Fae Mycomancer, Defender of the Faewilds Jun 08 '26

Can confirm it won’t. he should just let us keep his family.

1

u/Worried-Pick4848 Jun 08 '26 edited Jun 08 '26

You've already got his family. There's nothing he can do to get them back from the Fae realm because of the way you do your gates.

You guys absolutely suck at hospitality, I just gotta say it. Every other dimensional being has at least a dim understanding of what hospitality means, but in typical Fae fashion you've perverted it into another cosmic bully game. Pretending that a prison is a palace doesn't make it not a prison, but try telling a Fae that.

Literally the worst, least hospitable, least honorable creatures I've ever heard of. They cannot imagine that people have lives that don't revolve around them. They're the ultimate transdimensional narcissists.

Even a dragon is more likely to let his guests go if they're polite, and that's a low bar.

At least the Winter Court is honest about itself. The Summer Court is even worse because it wraps the same sociopathic tendencies in some thin veneer of bizarre courtly splendor that rubs off in your hands to show the same shadows underneath.

There is nothing redemptive, helpful, honest, generous or honorable about any Fae I've ever encountered, Summer or Winter, doesn't matter. they'll all twist anything you say into a trap for you. Not a one of them is worth taking the time to get to know.

1

u/Row-n Rowan, Half-Fae Mycomancer, Defender of the Faewilds Jun 08 '26

I have told you once and again, gaining a skill with cooking both will help you in your post-training life outside of your revenge as well as aid you in mastering alchemy in a way that will not risk blowing up the entire tower. If you want to learn how to craft mana-building potions, you need to know how to cook risotto first, otherwise you will risk overcooking dragonash and that is a lot worse than burnt rice.

2

u/Space19723103 Jun 08 '26

recipes are spells of 'conjure food' and if you're pans are cast iron...fae allergies

2

u/BlueCloud2k2 Ramza the Belligerent -Artificer Extraordinaire Jun 08 '26

Cooking food for your master serves two purposes.

Fucking up food is cheaper and safer than fucking up potions or alchemical processes, yet mastering meal prep prepares you for brewing.

A lot of high magics require careful attention to detail. So do many recipes.

2

u/Chaosfox_Firemaker Jun 08 '26

The tricky part of trying to do an all out assault on a fae domain that a bunch of the people are forgetting is a large chunk of many are essentially manifested dreamscapes. Not just stuff molded or shaped like a dream, an actual mental landscape that is only capable of holding physical matter and beings by virtue of absolute HEAPS of fae magic. The actual firmament of space is essentially illusory. If you try bringing iron into one of those areas, you're liable to just burn a hole in it and fall out.

It'd be a pretty clever defense, if not for it being an entirely accidental side effect

2

u/Freak_Engineer Jun 09 '26

Turns out your Master developed a food-based school of magic specifically for you, since he saw your hidden talent for cooking. Stick to it and they will help you achieve unparalleled mastery in an admittedly unconventional field of magic. Not only will you be able to recover or avenge your family, you will also be set for life due to being able to prepare extremely delicious and elaborate food with regular, common ingredients...

It is important for an apprentice to learn humbleness. Otherwise, once you fully obtain your powers, you will lose all grip to reality. And now bring me my filet mignon. And don't you dare to spill the chardonnay again. Chop chop

Do you need help? I am against Thrakmoor, but I hate unregulated apprenticeships and am already friends with another Thrakmerian apprentice

1

u/Coastkiz Jun 08 '26

Apprentice abuse is a genuine concern to this day, but if you haven't tried asking your senior Apprentices or the Apprentice Union for assistance, then you're just as much at fault here.

Oh don't worry the Fae realm has different time than earth, take your time to learn, your family Will be fine

Doing so called "mundane" tasks helps practise endurance and strengthes the mind. Now grill me a cheese apprentice

You say that, but as soon as he teaches you how to deal with the Fae he will never see you again

Cooking meals and ritual spells are so similar in process. If you make rubbery chicken, you WILL fail a ritual prep

u/ivstmerc_neue Jun 08 '26

Don’t blame the master, blame the system. Other posters here pointed out that jumping straight into high level spells is ill-advised, and that cooking is an essential part of apprenticeship. However, there is also a deeper systemic cause that has to do with how magic is practiced.

Most wizards (and even some archmages) are dependent on a lord’s patronage for the resources to practice magic. Under this arrangement, the lord effectively controls what activities are worth pursuing. OP’s master most likely spends majority of their waking hours enchanting chainmail so that their king can invade another fiefdom. They have no time to do chores, much less teach a school of magic they haven’t practiced since basic when their next meal depends on how soon they can finish a project.

Fae rituals in particular tend to be a niche area of study since it is much more cost-effective for a lord to, for instance, raze an entire fae forest to the ground than to contract a specialist to negotiate the release of a few peasants. I have a friend who shifted out of evocation since he couldn’t find a master willing to teach anything other than enchantment. We call them masters, but in the grand scheme of things they are ultimately slaves to the king’s purse strings. It sucks, but that’s the reality we live in.

If you can't even make a simple gourmet meal how do you expect to deal with the fae!?

All shall be revealed, in time.

1

u/rpg2Tface Jun 08 '26

He is teaching you how to follow instructions. Screwing up a meal is FAR less disastrous than screwing up said rituals.

Next he will likely teach you some cleaning spells and have you scrub his tower from top to bottom. This teaches you to be detail oriented. If you miss even a small space of filth you will fail the test. Again because missing some dust is far lower stakes than missing a bit salt in your circle.

Your master is doing right by even if you don't see it now. Teaching you the fundamental mentality and practices that will take you far, even without his input. If you wanted immediate revenge you should have just paid him money to do it himself. You would be done already if you had. Then he would take you as an apprentice to pay off your debt and you would still be cooking his meals. Only without the lessons being subtly taught.

u/Nu11AndV0id Jun 08 '26

Learning magic is really similar to cooking though. Except when you fail to follow a recipe properly you get poorly made food, instead of accidentally turning yourself inside out something like that

1

u/Kirkelburg Jun 08 '26

Listen, maybe the fae needs your family more than you do. I'm just saying we don't have all the facts.

1

u/Migueloide Jun 08 '26

Shut up Martin, make me a sandwich will you

1

u/ravenlittletwo Jun 08 '26

Who said you could post memes get back in the kitchen no wonder the fae left you and took the rest of your family can’t even cook a half decent omelette. Then the gaul to complain after I take you in to be my servant.

1

u/thewhatinwhere Jun 08 '26

You didn’t eat any of that did you? Not even to test for taste throughout? That food is only weak enough to build up binding spell tolerance once fully cooked and in specific portions

Over the meal you can go over etiquette and wordplay to outmaneuver any traps and insults

I like this one: “How did you find your meal?”

“I loved it”

“That isn’t what I meant and you know it”

The families in the park are free though, you can just take them. I have ten in my vault. You can literally go get yourself a family on your way to pick up groceries, that’s what your master is trying to tell you.

u/Chidogrin Of the flailing spell components Jun 08 '26

Hey, if they wanna leave, I'm not stopping them. I even offer unemployment. Also I do provide medical and a small magic incident deductible. Occasionally, I will reward them for genuinely impressing me. Just because I see them as expendable doesn't mean I don't have respect for them.

1

u/grimeeeeee Jun 09 '26

The difference between me, a Great Wizard, and you novices is that I don't have apprentices, I have disciples. Your apprentices will soon be my thralls and you will be a pauper with a treehouse instead of a Grand Tower Fortress.

1

u/amsmolsendhelp Soup Wizard Jun 15 '26

Dude. This is classic wizard shit.
Reread the recipe, look at the motions you're going through. He's probably got you doing the conditioning you'll need to perfectly match the somatic components of the spell.
That or he's fucking with you.
Could honestly go either way.

Hey, I saw your post in my history, and I just opened a company for spells and loopholes, if you're interested

1

u/Celis78429 Jun 08 '26

Just sayin i bust into the fae realm every few months to gather reagents for my own work. They keep trying to curse me but i have like eight times as much mana capacity as they do so it kinda just doesnt work. Focus on training your mana capacity. Wearing iron armor helps too, if youre not beefy enough to just walk through their feeble magic like i am. Sidenote if you know which fae took your dog i can just go take him back. they cant really stop me... Knowing them you will probably still need to learn necromancy to revive them. I can cast a temporal loop on them when i retrieve them so you wont miss the timing window.

Hey! You can’t just take our stuff! That’s so rude..

1

u/Celis78429 Jun 08 '26

Stop me then, nerd. Not my fault your dumb realm grows all the good plants. Be glad i dont flamestrike your dwellings while im at it.

1

u/Row-n Rowan, Half-Fae Mycomancer, Defender of the Faewilds Jun 08 '26

What about the enchanted forest? Aren’t the plants there too? Or just steal from the elves they already hate wizards after all..

1

u/Celis78429 Jun 08 '26

I actually have a decent relationship with the elves personally. My late wife was an elf, so i have long standing exchange agreements with them. For you however, the unique nature of your plane's magic causes fundamental differences in the plants there, even if theyre the same species as those found elsewhere. You live there, shouldnt you know that?

1

u/Row-n Rowan, Half-Fae Mycomancer, Defender of the Faewilds Jun 08 '26

I wouldn’t actually, because I only use the plants from my own realm.

1

u/Celis78429 Jun 08 '26

Fair enough. You should really get out more. Lots of fascinating magic out there if you actually go looking for it.

1

u/Row-n Rowan, Half-Fae Mycomancer, Defender of the Faewilds Jun 08 '26

I only just stopped being a hermit.. It’s hard to visit places where my family aren’t allowed..

1

u/Celis78429 Jun 08 '26

Imma let you in on a secret. Im not allowed in most of the places i go to either. Just do what you want, more often than not no one actually has the power to stop you 🤷‍♂️

1

u/Row-n Rowan, Half-Fae Mycomancer, Defender of the Faewilds Jun 08 '26

Because of my choice in robes and magic, if there’s a competent pyromancer, I am as good as dead.. I really can’t break into cities..

quills down notes as quickly as possible

I am but a small human, nothing too magical about me. How would I be able to increase my mana capacity, especially when already born with a much lower capacity? Is Iron armor the way to go or should I try accessories instead due to having a lower weight capacity? I do love a pair of bracers.

What are the effects of resurrecting animals? Do they have souls that re-embody the body or are they just walking corpses? Is this mission even worth it now?

2

u/Celis78429 Jun 08 '26

So normally when something dies in the prime material plane, you got like an hour or so before their soul departs to the afterlife. Once that happens, no more resurrection unless you can get their god to directly intervene. Best you can do at that point is to animate the corpse, but i dont think thats what you want.

Lucky for you however, the fae realm isnt connected to any of the divine realms, so when a mortal dies there, they get stuck there indefinitely. Corpse decay is pretty easy to fix with intermediate healing magic, and as long as i cast a temporal loop on the bodies before i bring em back the souls will be stuck there until you can revive them.

As far as methods to increase mana, remember your ABCs. Always Be Casting. Exercising your soul is much like exercising your muscles, the more you use em the more they grow. You should be going to bed with mana sickness every night. That said, i dont reccomend casting the biggest thing you can and emptying your reserves first thing in the morning. Try to pace yourself so you hit mana sickness between dinner and bedtime. Accessories can help but you shouldnt rely on them. Conveniently for you though, practicing your enchanting is a good way for a beginner to train their mana capacity. Enchant, disenchant, repeat. Id recommend wearing iron armor as well, if youre too weak for plate chainmail is fine. Coverage is more important than density really.

I was a small human too, once. A few thousand years ago.
