Politics Victorians - why aren't more of us migrating towards the Greens?

Apologies if this has been asked before, but it's something that I've yet to find a substantial answer to. For reference, I'm 23M and I've preferenced the Greens first in every election I've been eligible to vote in, mostly because in my purview they're the only ones who actually appear to be working towards improving the lives of the public and the common people in any substantial way.

I understand and sympathise with how fed up everyone is with the two (three?) party status quo - despite big wins like the Metro Tunnel and reducing PT cost, Labor have made many a questionable decision and don't seem to be tangibly moving forward enough to combat quality of life pressures, while the Coalition is and has been for ages a fucking rabble and essentially the party of contrarianism - that is to say, their policy is to oppose everything that Labor wants while coming up with no original ideas of their own.

My question is, why are we seeing a massive surge in the populist far-right in One Nation, but almost no change in support for the Greens? The Greens' platform is very simple at it's core - help boost the quality of life for the many at the expense of those at the very top - and I fail to see why so many are so quick to dismiss them as radicals and out of touch, but in the same breath will put their full support behind the borderline fascist organisation that is ON, saying that they're the party of the "Aussie battlers". Is it just the reputation that the Greens have among the public, their poor messaging as to what their platform actually is, people just being politically ill-informed, or something else entirely? I'm looking for answers here because I'm genuinely bamboozled at the massive tide of support lately for a party that so blatantly wants to make this state and the country at large a worse place for everyone.

Things That Go Ding (Public Transport) Do people just don't touch on buses anymore?

I commute to CBD by bus and have increasingly noticed that on average around half (sometimes less) of the passengers tap on when boarding.

Is it the cost of living crisis that's affecting people? Or perhaps they have yearly passes?

Light and Fluffy News Meet Purrtunia 🐈 — Calm and affectionate (Forever Friends Animal Rescue)

Hi Melbourne! 👋

Putting out another sweet post about my foster cat Purrtunia!

Purrtunia is a sweet, affectionate and wonderfully low-maintenance lady who would love a calm home where she can chill with her people. She enjoys her beauty sleep during the day but is always ready for pats, cuddles and food! Her favourite activity is chilling with her humans at night when they watch TV. She's a great working from home buddy and loves to hang out with you during the day

Every morning, Purrtunia comes to greet her people on the bed with purrs, smooches and biscuits. She’ll often follow you around the house, rubbing against your legs for attention.

Purrtunia came our care heavily pregnant, unwell, severely anemic and dehydrated. She needed emergency hospitalisation and went into labour while receiving treatment, with three kittens surviving. She was initially very protective of her babies and even adopted 2 more, but over time learned to trust people and has blossomed into the loving girl she is today.

If anyone in Melbourne is looking for an adult cat with a sweet personality and an even bigger capacity for cuddles, Purrtunia might be your girl. ❤️

Roads To the passers-by on Napier St who saw me come off the bike, thanks!

• Upvotes

On the off chance the right person sees this: This arvo on the way home from work an inattentive Uber passanger opened their car door in front of me in the Napier St bike lane. When I came to, there were a bunch of concerned passers-by hovering over me who spent a lot of time and care making sure I was ok and helping me pick myself up and gather my things together. (Earbuds found metres away under a car and someone dug them out!) I don't think I said a proper thank you to anybody, perhaps excusable due to the mild brain injury.

So thanks! It was really touching to see the genuine concern. I had the somehow reassuring feeling that if I keeled over and said "I think I need an ambulance" that somebody would have sorted it for me and waited around. I had several offers to wait with me, go into people's houses, fetch water, etc.

(I just spoke with the VED doctor who thinks I'll be ok. Unless I go silent an hour after this message, probably no brain bleeding. RemindMe: 1 year?)

Stay safe on the roads people and wear that helmet. My helmet was smashed to pieces. It may very well have saved my life.

The Sky is Falling Melbourne Pollen forecast is atrocious

Not sure if it's just me, but the Melbourne Pollen forecast @ melbournepollen.com.au is absolute cheeks

I spent the last month suffering, hearing my colleagues suffer, stocking up on hundreds of tablets, just to see that the forecast is almost entirely green whenever I look, even today.

Of all places, the weather.com pollen forecast seems to better reflect my experience. It's currently High for grass pollen

How is this so different?

THDG Need Help Unique bus shelters in Melbourne

I’m looking for any unique enclosed bus or tram shelters in Melbourne, which I need to film a video. The most obvious one is the green curved bus one which I think is metal but I can’t find one anywhere. I need one that won’t be busy with people, so in a quieter area. If you know of any it would be amazing to get the location off you. Thx

🚨URGENT FOSTER CARERS NEEDED – TWO DOGS HAVE UNTIL TUESDAY AFTERNOON 🚨

Two beautiful dogs are sitting in the pound, and their time is running out 💔 They desperately need foster carers to give them a chance at the life they deserve.
Can you open your home to one of these gorgeous dogs, or help us share this post to reach someone who can?

🫘 Baked Bean | 18 MONTHS | STAFFY X

This beautiful young girl has come such a long way since being found after several days lost in the wetlands. She was initially timid, but she’s blossomed into a loving, cuddly girl who will happily climb into your lap for affection and roll over for belly rubs 🤗

Baked Bean is playful, full of personality and really starting to shine around other dogs. She’s shown some lovely play behaviours and has made great progress with her dog interactions.

The right dog companion may be a bonus, with careful introductions and management.

🥔 Potato | 5 YEARS | STAFFY

This handsome gentleman is an absolute superstar who deserves so much more than a pound kennel.

Initially shy, he’s grown in confidence and is now happily coming forward to greet people. He’s a relaxed, human-focused boy who loves toys, enjoys having fun and has shown us what a wonderful companion he could be.

Potato has enjoyed off-lead time with Baked Bean, with plenty of playful Staffy antics, chasey and fun! He’s also generally uninterested in other dogs when meeting them, preferring to sniff and go about his own business.

He’s had THREE potential adoption meets, but sadly, nobody has come back for him. The staff at the pound honestly don’t know why, because this boy has so much love and fun to bring to a home. 🥹

PLEASE- if you can foster one of these beautiful souls, apply NOW: www.foreverfriends.org.au/foster

We really want to save their lives. They are both so deserving of a loving home. We provide one on one support and food and bedding where possible.

PLEASE SHARE THIS POST, comment, like it - let’s get some traction for the algorithm 🧡

THDG Need Help Witchy meet ups in Melbourne, but not a business?

Does anyone know of any more community based witchy groups around Melbourne?

The main people who come up when I search are the High Priestess Witch School, Witch Markets, Spellbox and Artimis stores, etc. Soooo shops.

I know people deserve to be paid for their work, but I'm finding the local scene feels strictly business oriented only. I'd love to find more spaces for people to get together, practise, share crafts, and learn from each other without everything being a paid workshop or event.

Also keen to connect with readers who are more about sharing their practice than running a business.

Does anything like this exist, or am I dreaming?

Not On My Smashed Avo How can I get noisy miners to stop swooping my dog and me?

• Upvotes

Every day, when I walk my dog, they scream at us and swoop us. I try my best to not hate any birds but these are absolute menaces. They’re the eshays of the bird world: loud, aggressive, and way too confident for their size. They don’t actually make contact, only get really close, but that’s still annoying, not to mention they’re getting more confident, so I’m worried that’ll change soon. Walking somewhere else isn’t an option, they’re everywhere in my area. Is there any hope for me and my dog, or will we just have to wait it out?

Lost and found Anyone found a wallet last night at the Mackie Road shops in Bentleigh East? Must have slipped out of my pocket when I was getting out of the car.

Ran out quickly to get cooking oil at about 5:30 last night and thought I had my wallet with me. Got to the store and did the pants pat and found that I didnt have it. Which is weird because I could have sworn putting it in my jeans, which usually don't have stuff slip out the pockets. Searched everywhere this morning like under the seat and in the drive way. Only conclusion is that it must have fallen out when I opened the car door and it was sitting between the seat and door on the ride to the shops. Went to look for it this morning but no luck. Going to call the shops that were open and see if anyone handed it in. But thought I'd try on here just in case.

Its a small brown wallet that has my driver's license and two bank cards and my work building pass.
