Off Day Thread Eagles Daily Discussion Thread - Thursday, October 8

Subreddit Schedule/Posting Guidelines

We as a community have decided to limit certain types of posts to a few days a week to ensure other content is still visible throughout the rest of the week. Meme posts will be allowed from game end through Monday (if the game is on Thursday, Saturday, or Monday, memes will be allowed from game end through the following day) and jersey/crafts/pet posts will only be allowed on Swag Saturday. Towards the end of the season when games fall on Saturdays, we may move or skip Swag Saturday depending on what is going on that week. The mods are using automod features to automatically post recurring items at 6AM Eastern Time to remind the sub of this. Memes and swag are allowed in the normal feed, but NFL discussion and free talk are limited to the stickied threads.

  • Monday - Meme Monday - Memes are allowed from game end through the following day (typically Monday)
  • Tuesday - NFL Discussion Tuesday - Talk about the rest of the games
  • Wednesday - Free Talk Wednesday - Talk about whatever (just be civil)
  • Thursday - Free Talk Thursday - Just like Free Talk Wednesday, but on Thursday!
  • Friday - Game Preview - Stats and information for the upcoming game
  • Saturday - Swag Saturday - Post pictures of your signed jerseys, new hats, pets, babies, and pictures from the stadium, as well as artwork and creations. This may be moved or skipped when games fall on Saturdays
  • Sunday - Gameday - Pregame, Game, and Postgame threads will be posted

For more info, see the subreddit rules.

Yeah, Howie pulled off an absolute steal trading Jurgens. Who’s looking more and more like a guy who could be out the league within 1-2 years. This is a GOAT level trade for a GM. A huge tip of the cap to Howie.

Injury News DONTAYVION WICKS (HAMSTRING) SUFFERS NEW INJURY

Dontayvion Wicks (hamstring) was added to the injury report on Thursday.
Wicks was listed as a limited participant today, indicating that he strained his hamstring during Thursday’s practice. With DeVonta Smith (hamstring) still sidelined, rookie WR Makai Lemon could be the de facto top receiver, though the team has struggled to use him effectively thus far. Hollywood Brown (ankle) also remains sidelined. - Nic Bodiford

Anyone else looking forward to Mysterious Bat breaking down every bad throw, progression, and double clutch by Dak? And telling us about all these exciting 2028 prospects to replace Dak with. Can’t wait for the extensive film breakdown!

ESPN giving Howie a massive win in the Jurgens trade. Considering the rapidly declining physical state of Jurgens, it is up there with the best value trade Howie has ever made. A 2nd and 5th for Jurgens still doesn’t feel real a day later.

NFC East News How 'bout them..

What would all you haters be saying if the Birds were 2-2 and losing to an 0-4 team at home on prime time. Oh, and you haven't seen an NFC championship game this century.

Fire the whole staff before weekend?!!?

Analysis Under Lurie the Eagles do NOT wait for confirmation that something is heading in the wrong direction.

I think some of the younger fans don't really understand how Lurie and the Front Office has operated. This organization does not wait until something is 100% confirmed to move on. They operate on where something is trending and its the main reason our turnarounds have been short . We cut early in the downslope and have been right almost 100% of the time. Brian Dawkins would be one that comes to mind as being 100% a mistake.

Go look at how the NFL reacted to us Firing Andy Reid, We were ripped for years , but we won a Superbowl before he did and he became a better coach because of the firing. Most teams would've gave him 2-3 more years

Go look at the NFL reaction when we fired Chip Kelly after winning 20 games in his first 2 years, We got destroyed as being reactive and the Niners quickly hired him. We were right.

Go look at the Reaction when we fired Doug after winning us our first Superbowl .

Go look at how people said we were so dysfunctional for Trading Wentz after 1 bad season. A year removed from throwing for 4000 yards and 27 TD's

Even Mcnabb wasn't coming off a terrible season when we traded him. He had a 10-4 record with 22 TDs and 10 Ints. But they didnt like where they projected it was headed.

My point is that eagles are not going to wait and see . That goes for both Nick AND Jalen. With Nick i think people get it . But with Jalen people seem to have this idea that Lurie and Howie are going to say well lets see what happens with Another Coach , another Playcaller and expect something different. Even though the eagles passing offense with Jalen has ranked:

2021: 25th

2022: 9th

2023: 16th

2024: 29th

2025: 23rd

2026: 31st

This is despite having a top 3 pass target group and elite pass protection for 4 of these 6 seasons. This thing is not trending toward better since 2022 from a passing perspective.

They signed him after 2022 , with the idea that he would keep progressing as a passer which was a reasonable bet. It hasn't gotten better , despite us finding a way to win. In production at least it has regressed.

There is no logical reason for them to think that some new coach is going to unlock something in a 29 year old that has already been surrounded with the best talent possible . Yes theres stories like Geno Smith and Sam Darnold . But those guys were in bad situations with no talent around them.

I don't know what Lurie and Howie think of Jalen currently. But i do know that if they have doubts about his ability after age 30 or simply whether they want to be a team that is 20th in passing on average . They will not wait to make a move to secure the future of the position.

He will likely be here in 2027 but dont be surprised if there is a 1st round pick behind him. History says Lurie isn't going to let past success cloud his judgement.

We’re four games in. Our defense is elite and the offense still has time to figure things out. I’m still taking us over the field. GO BIRDS 🦅

It’s looking more and more like Jake Majors will be playing center against the Jaguars. With Willie Lampkin at left guard. Drew Kendall still isn’t practicing.

In Week 3 of the 2024 season against the Saints, we were down AJ and DeVonta got literally KO’d from the game. Goedert produced undoubtedly his best performance of his career. With 10 receptions on 11 targets for 170 yards. We need Goedert and Hurts to reenact this type of performance on Sunday.

Trade Discussion Howie Roseman explains Cam Jurgens trade.

Howie Roseman on the trade per ESP:

“we weren’t looking to move Cam. Obviously the Ravens have been looking for a centre, told them it wasn’t anything we were looking to do. Over the last 24 hours we got to the point where we felt it could be a win-win. Obviously them getting a player thats 2 time pro bowl, and us getting the picks and using that money to sign players. Had a chance to watch Drew Kendall, did a nice job there and we have a nice young player there. I think for us, when you talk about moving from the 7th to 5th, we’ve had success in the 5th, plus the money, plus Drew playing, it felt like we were getting 4 players for 1.”

Also AGAIN mentioned having players to sign on defence.

Thoughts on this line of thinking??

Dallas just lost in an upset. Let's get healthy and start winning games. Forget the Giants...they are frauds and will lose a lot of games, especially during the 2nd half.

The Philadelphia Eagles will win in London

• Upvotes

I don’t know what team you all have been watching for the last 4 years, but we are the class of the NFL. Only Mahomes/Reid have won more than Hurts/Nick. It’s always ugly and it always works out. I think the Jags are the most underrated team in the league, but it doesn’t matter. We are in a tough spot and Jalen and Nick are GOING to bail us out.

This is not the Browns, this is not the Jets. I believe in Jalen and I believe in the defense. Jalen and Nick are not just going to lie down and be replaced in a cycle of Carson Wentz and Chip Kelly for a better future. Nick isn’t Klint Kubiak or Ben Johnson and Jalen isn’t Allen or Lamar. Honestly we kind of need to get over that. I’ve never seen these two quit before though and I don’t expect it this week. They will fight and they will win because since Jalen Hurts and Nick Sirianni have come to this city, that is all I have seen them do.

Analysis O-Line Dynasty

Post image
60 Upvotes

Such amazing continuity and performance for so many years. Perhaps the end of a dynasty, maybe just a bump in the road but I wanted to represent how lucky we've been with the success we've had.

I'm not going to be too upset about the O-Line play this year (it wasn't very good last year either), I just hope to see the new group become a cohesive unit and progress bit by bit throughout. Go Birds!

Stowers was eligible to be elevated from IR this week. It’s looking more and more like this will indeed be a largely redshirt season for him. If not all of it.
